In the clip posted on YouTubeshe begins by suggesting that you should give up prepared meals.

“Frozen refrigerator meals, food that is chopped and sometimes even prepared for you. Is that convenient? Yes, it certainly is. Is there a time and place for it sometimes? Of course,” she says.

“But in general, if you regularly buy ready-made, refrigerated or shelf-stable meals, you are spending much more than necessary.”

She goes on to say that you can get larger portions and healthier food for much cheaper if you just make it yourself.

The next food item Jordan urges people to stop buying in an effort to save money is prepackaged snacks.

She explains that while they are useful for school lunches and road trips, people are often tempted to eat them all the time.

“A good rule of thumb is that if it is in a package, it should not be eaten at home,” she says.

“Save it for school lunches, road trips, all that stuff. Instead, buy bulk packs of your favorite items.”

Next, Jordan recommends avoiding individual protein drinks and individually packaged drinks – warning that you can make your own drinks for a fraction of the price.

The money-saving guru also recommends avoiding buying small packages of things you use regularly, like cheese.

“Cheese is expensive, we use a lot of it in the house,” she explains.

“If you buy small, small packets of cheese, maybe just enough to use for a particular recipe, and then you buy another packet for another day and another packet for another day, you're doing it in the most expensive way. promise.

“If it's something that can be frozen or something that you use fairly regularly, buy the largest package possible and you'll get the absolute best price per pound, price per unit, price per ounce.”

Jordan says another important thing to avoid to save so much money on your food bill is pre-cut or diced fruits or vegetables.

She notes that not only is it just “incredibly expensive,” but she also claims that when you cut up fruit or vegetables, they usually have to put “some kind of product or chemical on it so it doesn't turn brown.” It doesn't get mushy and it lasts longer.”

She then shares her seventh item to throw away: packages of raw meat.

“There are lots of ways to save money on it… but one of the biggest ways is to buy larger containers and then portion, freeze or pre-cook them,” Jordan advises.

The savvy shopper notes that her eight items she's throwing away might surprise you, before revealing it's salad dressing.

“Salad dressing is so easy and so cheap to make at home, and you know what? It just tastes better, that's what it is. Homemade ranch, all you need is three ingredients?” she says.

Jordan points out that number nine is “instant everything” — so instant potatoes, instant rice, instant oats, before concluding with her final food item to avoid: canned beans.

“Beans are not difficult to cook, in fact, they are incredibly easy to cook,” she explains.

“Maybe you should soak them overnight or maybe put them in a slow cooker, but if you're strapped for cash, if your groceries are keeping you from living the life of your dreams, if it's keeping you from getting out of debt, if it's holding you back from living the life you want. Is that time not well spent?

“Stop buying canned beans, buy dried beans, literally for pennies, I'm not kidding, lentils, so cheap, and make them yourself.”
