Hyderabad: Two transgender people were reportedly stoned and stabbed to death with a knife around 1 a.m. on Wednesday night in Hyderabad. According to police, the transgender people were attacked by unidentified assailants in the Daibagh area below the confines of the Tappachabutra police station early Wednesday night.
A PTI report quoted police officials as saying the two victims had been stoned and stabbed with a knife; the duo suffered serious injuries in the attack and died on the spot, they said.
Police said the victims, identified as Yusuf alias Dali, 25, and Riaz alias Sophia, 30, were on their way home on their two-wheelers when they were attacked by unidentified individuals, who stoned them and then stabbed them to death.
They said preliminary investigations suggest the perpetrators may have been closely involved with the two transgender people and that police are working to identify the suspects and the motive behind the grisly murder.
An official said the knife used in the double homicide has also been recovered from the scene of the crime, adding that a case of double homicide has been recorded in this regard and further investigations are underway.
“A double homicide has occurred within the confines of Tappachabutra Police Station. The police were notified and arrived on the scene. The deceased transgender people were identified as Yusuf alias Dali and Riyaz alias Sofia,” said DCP Tappachabutra, according to a report by India Today.
“Both are residents of Tappachabutra. They were killed with stones and knives. A knife was found at the crime scene. The reason behind the murder would be illegal intimacy. We are also interrogating some suspects. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway,” the DCP said.
2 homeless killed
Meanwhile, in a similar case, two homeless people were killed by unknown assailants while sleeping in two different roadside places on Wednesday morning under the confines of Mailardevpally police station, police said.
Police say unknowns crushed two homeless people with boulders on Wednesday morning while the victims slept on sidewalks. They said the identities of the two victims killed are being established and an investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the killings and to investigate whether the incident is in any way related to the murder of the two transgender people.
An official said a case of murder has been registered under section 302 of the IPC in this regard and further investigation is ongoing.
