Another 3.6 earthquakes in Nepal, a day after the huge earthquake hit the Himalayan country

The impact of the earthquake was not limited to Nepal alone. Tremors were felt in several districts of north India, including Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Kathmandu: As Nepal continues to grapple with the devastating earthquake that left more than 157 dead, another magnitude 3.6 earthquake shook the Himalayan country in the early hours of Sunday. The earthquake struck at 04:38:20 (IST) at a depth of 10 km, 169 km northwest of Kathmandu, the National Center for Seismology said.

“Earthquake magnitude: 3.6, occurred on 05-11-2023, 04:38:20 IST, width: 28.63 and length: 83.94, depth: 10 km, location: 169 km northwest of Kathmandu , Nepal,” NCS posted on X (formerly Twitter).

This comes after a strong earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale shook Nepal in the late hours of Saturday.

This was followed by additional aftershocks, measuring 3.3, on Saturday afternoon, further exacerbating the challenges faced by the affected population and testing the region’s resilience.

Earlier in the day, Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal assessed the situation during a visit to the affected regions and acknowledged the extensive damage.

In response, the government mobilized the Nepal Army, Nepali Sentinel and armed police to conduct rescue operations via helicopters.

Health workers are also being rapidly deployed, equipped with essential medical supplies sourced from surrounding districts.

“A lot of damage has been caused in the area affected by the earthquake. Hundreds of people are injured, thousands of homes are destroyed and our government is busy providing relief. We deployed the Nepal Army, Nepali Sentinel. Armed police have been given the responsibility of taking all the injured to hospitals for rescue through helicopters,” the Prime Minister of Nepal said.

India, Nepal’s neighbor, has provided support during this challenging period. After the first earthquake, India released an emergency number for Indians in Nepal who need urgent help. “Alert Emergency Contact Number for Indians in need of assistance due to recent earthquake in Nepal: 977-9851316807 MEA India,” the Indian Embassy in Nepal posted on X.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extensive damage caused by the earthquake in Nepal. Prime Minister Modi offered support to Nepal and expressed India’s readiness to provide all possible assistance.
