Long before she got ready to save the world or teach chemistry, Brie Larson was a child actor.
“I was six when I told my mother I wanted to be an actor,” the actress said Stylist in 2018. “I think it helped me with my super shyness as a child. It taught me how to have a conversation and make eye contact.”
The California native quickly landed commercials and small TV roles before scoring her first regular gig at age 10 Raising Dadthe short-lived WB sitcom in which she played Bob Saget’s daughter.
She played numerous roles over the coming decades and even scored an Oscar for them Room in 2016, but playing Captain Marvel really made her nervous.
“Most of my fear was about the public nature of the role,” she said. “Knowing that this film would mean my face would appear on billboards around the world seemed overwhelming. I still worry that I wouldn’t be able to do the things I enjoy, like walking around the airport alone and people watching, but I think the power of the film outweighs my fears.
