Doda, Jammu and Kashmir: A magnitude 4.5 earthquake hit Ladakh and 10 minutes later a magnitude 4.4 quake hit Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday evening.

According to the National Center for Seismology, the Ladakh earthquake occurred at 9:44 p.m. While the Doda earthquake occurred 10 minutes later at 9:55 PM “Earthquake of Magnitude:4.4, occurred on 6/17/2023, 9:55:39 PM IST, Lat: 33.04 & Long: 75.70, Depth: 18 Km, Location : Doda, Jammu and Kashmir,” NCS tweeted.

“Earthquake magnitude: 4.5, occurred on 6/17/2023, 9:44:29 PM IST, latitude: 35.74 and longitude: 79.84, depth: 10 km, location: 271 km NE of Leh , Ladakh, India,” the agency wrote. in another tweet.

However, no loss of life was reported, ANI reported.

Earlier in the day, another magnitude 3.0 earthquake reportedly struck the Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, located on the Jammu-Srinagar highway.

The 3.0 and 4.4 magnitude earthquakes struck within an eight-hour span in the Chenab valley region, PTI news agency reported citing local officials.

An official from the meteorological department said the epicenter of the magnitude 3.0 quake, which struck at 2:03 p.m., was the hilly Ramban district along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, according to the PTI report.

The official said the earthquake’s depth was five kilometers below the surface at a latitude of 33.31 degrees north and a longitude of 75.19 degrees east.

The stronger earthquake, measuring 4.4 at a depth of 18 km with a latitude of 33.04 north and a longitude of 75.70 degrees east, struck the Doda district around 9:55 p.m., he said.

This was the seventh earthquake in the Doda district in the past five days. On June 13, Doda and the nearby district of Kishtwar had registered a magnitude 5.4 earthquake, which reverberated in many nearby areas, resulting in damage to several civilian structures.

There have been no deaths or injuries from today’s quakes, reports said.
