Josh Brolin took to Instagram on Wednesday to celebrate 10 years of sobriety.
The Sicario star, 55, shared a photo of his 10-year sobriety chip from Alcoholics Anonymous, with the words, “Josh “F****n” Brolin.”
In the caption of the post, the actor – who has marked some of his previous sober milestones on social media – wrote that he shared the achievement as inspiration for others.
“Today is no more to be celebrated than any other day, with the exception that it represents to others who are contemplating a way out of their tornado of shame that there exists a life in which that overpressurized piece of coal that is you will eventually turn into the diamond of freedom you always deserved to be.”
Sobriety coins are given as tokens to members of the twelve-step program as a way to indicate how long they have stayed sober.

His friends and followers took to the comments to congratulate the star, with Johnny Knoxville leaving two heart emojis and actor Pablo Schreiber sending prayer hands emojis.
Elizabeth Banks added, “Amen. Send love.”
Many of his followers also shared their own sober birthdays.
Brolin entered rehab for substance abuse in 2013 after repeatedly appearing drunk in public.
That same year, he would split with his ex-wife Diane Lane after eight years of marriage.
The actor has been open about his journey to sobriety, having previously posted photos of himself drunk and disorderly.
In November 2021, he marked his eight years of sobriety by sharing a touching post in which he thanked his wife, who he explained gave him a card for the occasion.
Brolin has now been married to Kathryn Boyd Brolin, 36, since 2016. They share a four-year-old daughter, Westlyn Reign, and two-year-old Chapel Grace.

In his post, Brolin said in part, “Sobriety is climbing into your truck for a 6 a.m. phone call after eight years of sobriety and there’s a card from your wife telling you how grateful she is that she made the decision to to put it down. ‘
The actor continued, “And sobriety is when your children look at you and trust what they see (you can see it in their students and in the way they stand in front of you) – they know that they are not into some idea are cultivated, but prized for the original garden in which they grow.’
Last year Brolin revealed on Dax Shepard’s armchair expert podcast that he first got temporarily sober at age 19, but then went back to drinking until he was 29, before getting sober again for five years.
He eventually got sober again at the age of 45, after an interaction with his late grandmother.
“My grandmother was on her deathbed, even though she didn’t die until a few months later, but we thought she was dying at that moment,” he said.
‘I was late, showed up stinking and I walked in and my grandmother, at 99, lifted her head – never a drinker, never a druggist, just living life’s terms – and looked at me with a big smile and I said, ‘that’s it, I’m done.”‘
