‘Princess Charlotte could be a new Princess Royal,’ Rebecca English tells Palace Confidential – saying the young royal is a ‘little mini-me Princess Anne in charge of her brothers’

Princess Charlotte could follow in Princess Anne’s footsteps and become The Princess Royal, says Rebecca English, editor-in-chief of the Daily Mail. Palace confidential.

Speaking on Mail+’s weekly talk show, the London-based journalist said the only daughter of the Prince and Princess of Wales is a “little mini-me” of the King’s sister.

“Charlotte could be a new Princess Royal, that would be great,” Rebecca said. ‘I’ve always said: I really see Charlotte as a little mini-me, Princess Anne.

‘I love the way she commands her brothers and I love the slight eye roll when they do something naughty. I just think she has a bit of Princess Anne in her.”

Royal aide Victoria Murphy added: “I think she will be, Princess Royal. I think there are definitely echoes of the Charles and Anne dynamic in the George and Charlotte dynamic.”

Princess Charlotte (pictured with Prince Louis in December) could follow in Princess Anne’s footsteps and become The Princess Royal, Rebecca English, Royal Editor of the Daily Mail, has told Palace Confidential.

When Prince William is crowned king, it will be up to him to decide if and when Charlotte will receive the title.

However, she could only receive the title after Princess Anne’s death. The king’s sister received the honor in 1987, when she was 36 years old.

The title Princess Royal is held for life and is traditionally given to the monarch’s eldest daughter.

Elsewhere on today’s show, Rebecca suggested Prince Louis could be the next Duke of Edinburgh.

The journalist said: ‘I think there is a very good chance that it will go to Louis, there are also rumors about Charlotte.

‘It would be wonderful to have a Duchess of Edinburgh wouldn’t it… But yeah, I think it’s probably going to go to Charlotte or Louis, that’s what I would suspect.”

It comes after the Daily Mail’s Richard Eden said Prince Edward and his wife Sophie are the unsung heroes of the royal family, but added that it is an insult that their titles as Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are not hereditary.

He believes King Charles should give them an immediate upgrade so they can pass the Duchy on from generation to generation – a move that could also encourage their son James to join ‘The Firm’ when the time is right .

‘It is sometimes easy to forget that the royal family is much more than just our monarch. And I’d like to shine a spotlight on two of my unsung royal heroes of the year: Prince Edward and Sophie,” Eden writes in the latest edition of his Palace Confidential newsletter.

‘King Charles recognized the couple’s contribution to the success of the monarchy by announcing on Edward’s 59th birthday in March that he would succeed their father as Duke of Edinburgh.

‘This was something that our late Queen and Prince Philip publicly made clear would happen at Edward’s wedding to Sophie Rhys-Jones in 1999.

‘However, it was a shame that the King turned the Duchy of Edinburgh into a life peerage rather than the hereditary title it had previously been. In my opinion this was an insult.

‘What better way to celebrate Edward and Sophie’s importance than by upgrading the title to a hereditary title?

‘Perhaps that would be a good way to encourage their son, James, the Earl of Wessex, to join The Firm when the time comes? He could join his sister, Lady Louise Windsor, in providing vital support to their cousin Prince William.”
