Two food-loving Brits have shared their joy and shock after visiting some of America’s giant supermarkets that dwarf the ones they go to at home.

Kent-based Jason, 37, and Josh, 31, love a trip to the supermarket in the UK, but nothing compares to a shopping trip to the likes of Trader Joes, Vons and Buc-ee’s across the pond in the US.

The couple uses them YouTube channel (@JJExtra) to film their journeys to these grand supermarkets – and find out for themselves what it’s all about.

Despite visiting the States twice a year, there’s always something new to amaze them when they visit US supermarkets, proving that it “certainly didn’t take long” to find out what all the hype around Trader Joes was.

The YouTubers spoke to MailOnline about their videos, what surprised them most and least about these supermarkets, what they wish UK stores would do the same and which stores they plan to visit next.

The one thing that always shocks Jason and Josh when they visit America is the sheer amount of produce available during festive periods, such as Thanksgiving and Halloween.

The pair admitted that while they admitted that

By sharing their experiences on the social media platform, the couple now has more than 6,28,000 subscribers.

From visiting an American supermarket they had never heard of before – spoiler it’s Vons – to visiting Buc-ee’s, the world’s largest gas station, Jason and Josh have seen just about everything that can be sold in supermarkets.

But they admit that no matter how many stores they walk into in the United States, they are amazed at the amount of product and variety piled on the shelves each time.

Before the couple met, they had separate YouTube channels, and after they met in Florida and got together, their joint channel was born.

They found the love for the products in the supermarket they visited and felt natural to film their experiences.

In an exclusive conversation with MailOnline, the couple explained that as soon as they walk into a store, they are overcome with an overwhelming sense of joy and happiness, and they want to translate this to their viewers.

Josh said, “MeIt’s definitely the variety of food, and the size of the stores compared to ours at home is huge. Even the “smaller stores” are on the scale of our larger supermarkets.

And the sheer amount of products and the amount of the same products available, in terms of taste and variety, is a big difference. For example, we have a few cereals, but they have a whole corridor of different ones.’

But one thing that always shocks them when they visit America is the sheer amount of products available during festive periods, such as Thanksgiving, Halloween and Christmas.

Jason said, “I think something they do much bigger than us is seasonal stuff. For example, a quarter of the store can be transformed into a Halloween walk through or during Christmas where they put everything around the stores.

“It’s like you’ve gone to some attraction, and you’re thinking to yourself oh god damn it!

“And it’s not like in the UK, where you see a few Haribo candies, because in the States, they go full out.”

On the contrary, the social media duo weren’t too surprised at “the amount of unhealthy food you can buy, with aisles of sweets and crisps, and even the bakery sections are bigger than our entire supermarkets in the UK.”

When asked which of the supermarkets was their favourite, the pair had a surprise winner.

They both agreed that “the classic thing for a Brit to do” would be to say Target or Walmart, but the pair opted for Trader Joes.

The pair started their YouTube channel four years ago and are on a mission to find out why Americans are so obsessed with grocery stores like Trader Joes, Vons, and Buc-ee's.

Jason said: ‘The reason for that is it’s kind of like our M&S or Waitrose, but they’re higher quality than Walmart or Target – they’re all made of high quality material.

‘Compared to M&S or Waitrose, it’s not that expensive, especially with branded items. Obviously, the most expensive things in the United States are fresh fruits and vegetables wherever you go.

“But we’ve been to Trader Joes in both California and Florida and they both feel so similar, especially in terms of layout… they just feel so familiar.”

And it’s also the fact that “you know what to expect when you go to Walmart or Target,” Josh said.

He continued, “But the first time we went into Trader Joes it was a different experience because you never know what you’re going to find when you step into a supermarket you’ve never been to before.”

“While they do them elsewhere, it’s not on the same level.”

But there’s one thing the couple can’t get over. And that’s just how much better customer service is in the United States.

They admitted that there are “staff anytime, anywhere” and that they are “willing to deal with you and will approach you – even if you don’t approach them first.”

“And we feel like you just don’t get that in stores in the UK.”

And one piece of news the couple gave was that their fridges are always full of coffee creamers – and it’s one thing they’d like to see implemented in stores across the UK.

Jason and Josh revealed to MailOnline where they see themselves going and revealed that they have yet to list a grocery store called Publix on their YouTube channel.

Found primarily in Florida, the pair say this store is on the “expensive and pricier side, like our Waitorse.”

While the chain isn’t found all over the United States, it’s the classier feel that entices them to visit.

Not to mention the salads and fruit platters on sale, as Jason explained, “Here you can get a small bowl of salad with some iceberg, carrots and a few tomatoes.

“But we’ve heard that you get huge dishes there filled with, for example, crumbled cheese, fresh produce and nuts that can feed eight people!”

And as for their favorite American snacks, Jason and Josh say it was a tough list to put together, but they settled on these items…

  1. Sugar cookies
  2. Everything except the bagel potato chips
  3. Cinnamon Coffee Cake Bites
  4. Butterfinger chocolate bar
  5. Beaver Nuggets (specifically from Buc-ee’s)
  6. M&M’s (they always have flavors we can’t get here)
  7. Trail Mix (Specific Monster)
  8. Dill Pickle Potato Chips
  9. Chips Ahoy Cookies (especially Reese’s)
  10. Anything with ranch dressing
