A MORRISONS supermarket is covered in graffiti and old TV guides after being abandoned four years ago.

The store in Shirley, West Midlands, closed at the end of 2019 after the supermarket giant launched a review of its then 494 branches.

Morrisons said at the time that the intention was to redeploy staff where possible, but it is not clear what the plans are for the building.

Urban explorer Don Andrew visited the spooky site on Sunday with his brother Kieran and friend Aser. live streaming what they found Facebook.

There are panels missing from the ceiling, wires hanging precariously down and there is plaster and damp on the floor.

Glass can be heard breaking in the background as the group ventures through, using torches and the light from their phones.

Don, holding the camera, tries to open a fire escape but finds it stuck.

In one part of the old supermarket, on Stratford Road, they find a stack of magazines, including TV Guides and OK!, some with January 2020 dates on them.

The group also tries to gain access to a neighbor HSBC bank – also deserted, but failure.

The bank closed its doors in September 2022.

Don says in the video, “This has pretty much become a place for graffiti artists.”

He sees a sign and adds, “We have to be careful guys, the cameras are working.”

Looking at the magazines on the floor, he says, “So it closed around Covid time.

‘I think there were plans to demolish the building and give more pensions houses to post here. It seems like late January.

‘What happened in the soapsguys, four years ago?” says Don, opening a TV guide on the floor.

He continues, “This is in Shirley, passed by recently. I still haven’t been to the bank. I’m determined to go in.

“If I remember correctly, this was where the chemist sat.”

Don moves into the main area of the supermarket and says, “There’s not much really. It’s a lot of delusion when you’re actually here.

“F***ing hell, it’s windy here.”

“There’s got to be a way from here to that bank,” he adds before the flow ends.

Speaking to The Sun, Don, 26, said he first gained access to the abandoned supermarket last summer and has returned three times since.

“Once we found the first entrance, it was like an addiction to keep going back, as crazy as it sounds,” he said.

“The emergency exit is wide open, if you are at the front of the building, you can walk right in, up the stairs and you are on the roof of the parking garage.

‘From the car park you can go down the stairs to Morrisons. But it’s pitch black and you need a flashlight.’

The father-of-one, from nearby Solihull, described what was inside: “There are wires hanging, bits of graffiti, the TV catalogues, the shutters half open. Pretty much everything is gone.”

He believes everything was stripped by thieves a few years ago.

“The first time I went in there it was scary. It’s a part of my town, there are no windows, it was creepy and creepy.

“All I could hear the whole time was a door slamming behind me. It was weird. The more I did it, I’m not so paranoid now.”

He added: “I have not been able to gain access to the bank – without breaking and entering, of course.”

Don – who makes his living making caravan chassis – started exploring the city in 2016, but stopped for a few years before taking up the hobby again last year.

He goes by Dee Explores online and has visited 63 abandoned sites in the West Midlands with his brother Kieran, 19 – or Brummie Explores – and their friend Aser.

Don said the one that stands out is The Stag pub in Coventry.

“That place is untouched. You have all the pumps and glasses, the basement is untouched,” he said.

“You can even pour another beer if you want. That was breathtaking, it was shocking.

“We went back a second time and the owner of the building was there and said, ‘You can’t go in there anymore.'”

He added: “It’s fun because it’s like walking into a time capsule. All the drinks were out of date in 2019 so that led me to believe it was Covid related.

“When I first started exploring the city, I was worried about people I might encounter, like drug users and people with guns,” he continued.

“As I continued doing it, I lost that fear. Everyone I encountered was on the same level. I never really had a problem.”
