1. Talk about a sticky-fingered thief!

2. It’s a crime you can’t cover up.

3. I’ve heard of stealing some money, but this is ridiculous.

The story began at 4 a.m. Wednesday in Carlingford, Australia, near Sydney, when a delivery driver working the night shift stopped his van to make a quick stop at a 7-Eleven.

Images of closed circuits of the scene shows a woman walking around the petrol pumps at the adjacent petrol station – or ‘servo’ to Australians – then climbing into the unattended van and driving away.

What makes the story more compelling than a typical opportunistic carjacking is the contents of the van: 10,000 Krispy Kreme donuts. The treats were destined for shops in Newcastle but have now disappeared to parts unknown.

As of Friday, New South Wales Police had made no arrests, although they were hungry for one. The department posted one call for help from the public, alongside reports of a fight in Warrawong and a missing Wagga Wagga man. Perhaps unschooled in the art of clickbait, the police uncreatively headlined the item: “Call for information after van stolen.”

“Our Krispy Kreme team is working to replace the 10,000 stolen donuts,” said Lenny Reddy, the company’s head of supply chain. reassured NCA Newswire.

Unlike Jean Valjean, who stole a loaf of bread because he was starving in “Les Miserables,” this thief may be less motivated by an insatiable love for Krispy Kremes than by an opportunity for an easy van heist. Since the van was unmarked, it’s likely the cargo was just a delightful surprise for the perpetrator.

The catch included both Christmas themed and classic donuts, News.com.au reports this.

On the other side of the world last month, a Dunkin’ Donuts truck was stolen in Connecticut, although in that case the thief apparently remained hungry because the donuts fell out the back. There is no indication that the crimes were related or that an international gang of donut thieves is at work.

1. When an arrest occurs, it is expected that it will be followed by sweet justice, steeped in mercy.

2. Maybe the police will look for someone with a glazed expression.

3. And that’s the truth.
