The married father is accused of going to his colleague’s house twice to have sex while on duty.

Inspector Lane, a senior officer in Sussex Police’s Missing Persons team, is also alleged to have sent her explicit photos and videos.

A disciplinary panel hearing was told he first met the woman, who cannot be named, in 2018.

At the time, he worked for the Missing Persons team and she worked directly with the team Police in the same office.

The pair became friends but their relationship became “flirty” in 2020 and they began exchanging messages, the panel heard.

They reportedly started hooking up the following year when Inspector Lane sent X-rated photos of his genitals.

He also shared a video of himself performing a sex act, the hearing in Lewes was told.

On April 11, 2021, Inspector Lane went to the woman’s home and left the police department radio connected while having sex, it is claimed.

The officer claims he only went to the house to connect with the WiFi at the property.

But the woman told the panel they had sex almost the entire time Inspector Lane was there.

Robert Talalay, barrister for Sussex Police, asked: “How long were you involved in sexual activity?”

She replied: ‘He probably spent most of his time at my address. I remember commenting that he was on duty at the time. It was somewhere between half an hour and an hour.”

The couple then exchanged messages, including one message from the woman that read: “Got caught“.

She later told him “f**k I miss you”, before he later replied: “Beautiful. I could kiss you all day and night.”

The panel heard that Inspector Lane returned to the house on June 4 – again while on duty – and was in bed with the woman for six hours.

She told the hearing: “It’s very clear in my mind because it was the night before my birthday.

“He had his radio on on my bedside table and was listening to the radio while we were engaged in sexual activity. We had full sex.

“He didn’t turn it off. It was rejected very, very low. I couldn’t hear clearly what was going on.”

During his own testimony, the officer claimed the affair started as his own wedding was ‘not great’ at the time.

But he denied in April that he had taken her to bed, saying he had Star Wars Bye, May 4th.

The hearing was told the woman wanted the officer to leave his wife, who also worked for the police, but when he didn’t, she told her about the affair.

Inspector Lane said: ‘I have never had sex whilst on duty or had any sexual contact whilst on duty.

“My job means everything to me, apart from my family, as ridiculous as that sounds, considering I had an affair.

“My work has been my constant for the past 23 years. I was naive in working from that address. I would never put my life in danger employment opportunities with Sussex Police.”

The hearing continues.
