McDonald’s has been criticized by customers after being charged for their food months later, leaving their bank balances in the red.

The card reader problem left one woman claiming £155 was debited from her account for meals she had eaten months earlier – and she wasn’t alone.

Other customers who had eaten at Dagenham restaurant in east London noticed mysterious payments disappearing from their accounts to the fast food giant.

Mother of three, Alexis Johnson, 42, told The Sun ‘My bank account was negative and I was shocked.

“I thought at the time I had been sued, as other people would have, so it’s really bad of McDonald’s.

McDonald’s has been condemned by customers after they were forced to pay for their food months later, leaving their balances in the red

“Being sued a month later can have a bad impact on people who are struggling.”

The HR operations manager from Essex was charged £34.54 by McDonald’s last Thursday.

She realized the payment was for Big Macs and Happy Meals she purchased in June, almost six months ago.

Nicole Jackson, who also ate at the Dagenham branch, wrote online: ‘I received £155. It’s absolutely disgusting’.

Another shopper on Facebook commented: “They took money from my partner from May” with an eye roll emoji.

McDonald’s told The Sun: ‘Unfortunately between April 26 and June 19 there was a fault with one of the card readers at our restaurant in Dagenham, meaning customers using that card reader were not charged at that time.

‘We have been processing these payments over the past two weeks and would like to apologize for any inconvenience caused as a result of the failure of these payments.

‘We encourage anyone with any concerns or questions to contact our customer service team.’

It comes after the burger chain started their ‘most generous promotion yet’, Festive Wins.

The fast food giant is offering customers across the UK the chance to save big this Christmas season.

Those with the app will be treated to deals and prizes throughout November, including favorites like the Big Mac for just 99 cents.

This week’s deals include a Quarter Pounder with Cheese, McPlant and Filet-O-Fish for 99 cents on select days.
