An airline passenger has sparked outrage after revealing that someone had taken her front row seat on a recent flight – which she had pre-selected and paid extra for – and that she then felt ‘guilty’ when she asked them to to move house.

The traveler opened up about the incident on Reddit last week and it outraged thousands over what she had to endure.

The woman, who goes by the username @Zealousideal-Host467, explained that she found herself in an awkward situation when she and her husband boarded their Delta flight and found another couple in their seats.

She said the couple told them they had “accidentally” sat in the wrong line, but she theorized that they were actually hoping to get “closer to their friends.”

When the Reddit user told the couple that there had been a mix-up, she said that instead of getting up and going to their actual seat, they suggested that she and her husband take “their seat.”

But the woman, who had specifically purchased front-row seats, didn’t back down, and although the couple did eventually get up, she said they punched her for letting them move after they “got comfortable.” .

She took to the internet to ask if she was wrong for not just sitting in place – and her post quickly went viral, receiving more than 2,000 responses from people fiercely defending her.

“What is the etiquette if someone is sitting in your seat (if the assigned seat is one row lower) and the person sitting in your seat says he or she wants to switch places with you?” she started at the post.

‘A middle-aged couple sat in my first class seat when I boarded because they ‘accidentally’ put mine and my husband’s in the front row (they just wanted to sit closer to their friends).

‘When I was confused, they said, “Oh sorry, we’re in the wrong seats, well, you can have our seats,” which were one row behind. But it’s not without reason that I paid for and selected the seats I wanted.’

The woman said the couple “made her feel stupid” for asking them to get out of her seats.

She continued, “They kept saying, ‘You shouldn’t fly much because this isn’t that bad,’ and, ‘We just got comfortable and you’re making us move?’ Should I have just sat in their place?’

People on the internet were quick to tell the Reddit poster that she shouldn’t have caved in to them.

“No, you absolutely should not have sat in their seats,” one person responded, adding that she should have told them, “I fly weekly and I would like to have the seats I booked.” Now please leave before I escalate this with a cabin crew member.”

‘They’re wrong. They’re trying to make you feel guilty by switching,” someone else agreed. ‘You’re not wrong. You can involve a flight attendant.’

‘That condescending attitude is so annoying. THEY shouldn’t fly much because people who steal seats and refuse to move are assholes,” said another user.

“If they wanted to be closer to their friends, they should have chosen those seats.”

“If someone accidentally sat on your seat, they should apologize and be kind when corrected,” a third comment read.

‘You didn’t do anything wrong. They were just deliberately trying to take your place.”

Even airline employees got involved. Someone said: ‘I’m a flight attendant and I like to tell people to go back to their original assigned seat in situations like this. You are entitled to your assigned seat.”

Another added: “Flight attendant here. In my opinion, this is proper etiquette: If you get to your row and discover that someone is sitting in your seat, tell them that they are in your seat and politely ask them to move to their assigned seat.

‘If that doesn’t work/there are further problems, seek help from a flight attendant.

‘Absolutely don’t let anyone push you to change your seat if you don’t feel comfortable with it. You are entitled to the seat you paid for.”
