‘Southern Charm’ Recap: Austen Kroll gets into a physical fight with JT

Clifton Prescod/BravoAusten Krol reaches its breaking point Jarrett “JT” Thomas during season 9 Southern charm finale – and it resulted in a scuffle in front of their friends.
“In Jamaica, I realized that Austen doesn’t care about anyone but himself,” JT, 38, said during a confessional on the Thursday, Jan. 4 episode, referencing the group’s recent outing. “Deep down, he’s a selfish, insecure, me-first, coward.”
Austen, 36, and JT have been feuding all season when JT took issue with Austen kissing Taylor-Ann Green. The kiss caused Austen’s ex Olivia Flowers and Taylor, 28, to get into an argument.
JT and Austen’s drama came to light on Thursday’s episode after Taylor labeled JT a friend when he said he had feelings for her. The rejection prompted JT to confront Austen at a group party, calling him “a snake and a coward.”
The cast of Southern Charm has been entertaining Bravo fans since 2014, but sometimes their off-screen scandals and controversies overshadow their on-screen antics. “What are you whining about?” Austen joked while talking to JT at the bar. JT then accused Austen of being the “genesis of why there is so much pain and tears” within the group, claiming that Austen is “an arm’s length friend who cannot be trusted with any woman.”
When Taylor intervened to try to diffuse the situation, JT snapped back and said, “Are you taking him back? I will never forget this.”

Paul Cheney/BravoIt was then that Austen finally realized why JT was constantly attacking him and his character. “Oh, now I understand. He’s jealous of me,” Austen told the cameras. “He wanted Taylor so bad. And I get it girl. Not JT.”
JT continued to spin around the party claiming that Austen and Taylor did more than kiss, and that’s why Shep Rose is still so mad at Austen. (Austen hooked up with Taylor shortly after Shep, 43, and Taylor split in July 2022.)

“You’re a little boy crying wolf, wrapped in a six-foot body. I’m looking at you man-to-man,” JT shouted at Austen, who then pushed him away.
Austen and JT started pushing each other back and forth before the camera crew intervened. “What’s wrong with you, dude?” Austen asked. “10 years, never physical contact and this is where you come in.”
JT claimed that Austen hit him first, to which Austen replied, “You headbutted me!” JT shot back and said, “You fucking lose. I never see you.” Austen ended the evening outside with Whitney Sudler-Smith shaking his head. “This is crazy,” Austen admitted.
Shep told the cameras that he wasn’t completely upset about what happened between JT and Austen. “I think the relationship between Austen and I is very frayed. I’ve been giving him the benefit of the doubt over the last few months,” Shep explained. “But he did it wrong. He was a bad friend. It hurts. I hate to say it, but Austen deserves it and no one can dispute that.”
