A terminal at a major Australian airport came to a standstill Friday morning after a reported power outage knocked out computers and security screening procedures.

Frustrated customers at Sydney Airport took to social media to vent their frustrations as power went out at terminal two, targeting the airport.

Another said the technology appeared to have stopped working at bag drop at a Virgin Australia terminal.

“Computers stop working, security checkpoints don’t work, lights go out… and yet flights are still closing and departing, despite some very distressed people in the queue!” they wrote.

Another user said the outage would leave the airport without its own money.

“It will be a major compensation for many customers,” they wrote.

However, a spokesperson for Sydney Airport said it did not take long for it to be operational again and no flights should have been missed.

“Earlier this morning there was a brief power outage that temporarily affected some check-in and security processes,” they said.

‘Power was quickly restored and there have been no knock-on effects on airport operations or flight departures.’

However, this was disputed by a Virgin passenger on Twitter.

“My flight left without me, but I was rebooked tonight,” they wrote. “Not everyone was so lucky as there were only a few seats left in Brisbane today.”

A Virgin spokesperson said they regretted any disruption customers faced, but said the incident was beyond their control.

“We are aware of a power outage at Sydney Airport which is impacting all airlines operating in Terminal Two,” they said.

‘We regret any inconvenience this has caused our passengers and we are working hard to reinstate all guests affected by the airport disruption.

‘For questions about the possible cause, we refer you to Sydney Airport.’
