FANS say they know why Alex Scott is ‘glowing’ even more than usual.

“I think love does that,” said one admirer after the BBC sports presenter posted beaming photos in a black dress.

The 39-year-old Lionesses legend has looked blissful and relaxed at glamorous events in recent weeks with partner Jess Glynne.

And she shone in a solo shoot that the former Arsenal defender shared on Instagram.

Fans raved about “Look at youuu” and “Beautiful queen” as Alex flashed a big smile in the four photos.

She wore a long dress with a slit on one side and matching high heels.

Her followers’ comments included: “elegant”… “beautiful”… “stunning”… “incredible” and “gorgeous”.

And this opinion attracted many likes from other followers: “Alex, you shine . I guess that’s what love does.”

The former English star with 140 caps has been in a relationship with pop singer Jess since last summer.

The Sun revealed their relationship in October after they were first seen together in public at Wimbledon three months earlier.

Since then, the couple have shared a series of happy snaps.

Alex posted photos from a Brit Awards afterparty earlier this month.

And Jess says she’s “getting used to” their relationship being widely exposed in public.

But she also told Fearne Cotton on her Happy Place podcast: “I somehow like to keep my personal life to myself. It’s so important.

“Even though we are both in this public space, what we have is ours.

“I feel like this is something I will always do.”

Coronation Street has cast Absolutely Fabulous actress Helen Lederer in a guest role as the love interest of the show’s oldest character, Ken Barlow.

Known as once the greatest lothario (Bill Roache) and desperate to prove he can still conquer the ladies at the age of 91, Ken takes up speed dating.

After being single for almost a decade following the death of his beloved wife Deirdre in 2015, he catches the eye of fellow dater Elspeth (played by comedian Helen, 69).

Ken attends the speed dating event with ex-son-in-law Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) and leaves the taxi company owner devastated when, despite his advanced age, he manages to outdo him in the romance department.

Speaking about the role, Helen, who will be released on Wednesday, March 27, described her character as ‘progressive and sassy’.

She also admitted that one of the biggest benefits of playing the role was the opportunity to act opposite Bill, who has appeared on the soap since the first episode in 1960.

Saying: ‘I had met him once before when I was sitting next to him at an event and I thought what a lovely man he was and so handsome. So it was a joy for me to be offered this short role.”

And despite only appearing briefly, Helen teased that Ken had taken Elspeth’s number during their scenes and that she could very well return to the soap if he called.

As well as playing Catriona in Ab Fab, the actress has also appeared in Hollyoaks, Celebrity Big Brother and Agatha Christie’s Marple.

It comes after the actor was given a three-month deadline to pay off his huge tax debt, making ‘property sales’ possible on Monday.

William reportedly earns £250,000 a year playing Ken Barlow in the long-running soap, but has racked up half a million in debt to the tax authorities.

He struck a deal to settle the £588,015.18 bill in 2018, but according to reports last month he has only paid £41,666.65 so far.

Bill wants to sell some property to pay off debts The sun reported in February that a potential buyer had pulled out of a deal.

The High Court has now granted him a twelve-week extension to ‘enable the sale of property’.

Bill failed to appear at a specialist hearing, where HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) lawyers said the amount the actor owes – which was not disclosed in court – has been reduced as a result of payments made.

Jacquille Jarrett, for HMRC, said Bill had requested a twelve-week adjournment, which was unopposed, to ‘allow the sale of property’.

Retired Insolvency and Companies Court judge Stephen Baister approved the adjournment and said Bill’s case will return in June.

“Wonderful,” Dr Baister said at the end of the hearing, which lasted less than a minute, at the High Court in London.

Bill is best known for his portrayal of Ken Barlow in the ITV soap for more than 60 years after making his debut in the first episode in 1960.

He has been married three times during his sex decades on the show, with Deirdre (Anne Kirbride) being the most memorable.

They first married in 1981 and their relationship was rocky, to say the least.

Shortly after first tying the knot, Deirdre had an affair with Mike Baldwin (played by Johnny Briggs) after finding Ken boring.

And although the relationship miraculously survived, it soon came to a devastating end when Ken had an affair with his secretary Wendy Cozier (Roberta Kerr) in 1989.

They divorced in the 1980s but remarried in 2005, which ended tragically after her off-screen death in 2015, in the wake of actress Anne Kirkbride’s death.

Before Deirdre, Ken was briefly married to Janet (Judith Barker) in 1973.

After the death of his first wife, Ken married Janet shortly thereafter so that his twins would have a loving mother.

But the pair were often at odds, with Janet not keen on having the children at home and also disappointed by Ken’s lack of ambition.

In 1977, Janet showed up on Ken’s doorstep and asked him to take her back, but he refused, leading to her committing suicide.

Valerie (Anne Reid) was Ken’s first wife and mother of Peter (Chris Gascoyne) and Susan (Joanna Foster).

They married in 1962 and were in love until her devastating accidental death in 1971.

Ken then agreed to teach in Jamaica and the family prepared to emigrate.

While getting ready for her own going away party, Valerie was electrified by a faulty hairdryer.

Bill, who holds the Guinness World Record for the world’s longest-serving TV soap star, was inducted into the Queen’s New Year Honors list in December 2021 for his services to drama and charity.

Working with the wealthy, traveling to the most exotic locations in the world and living for free on luxury ships: working on board a superyacht may sound like a dream job.

But life below deck has its challenges, according to Abbi Robertson, a superyacht chef who spent seven years sailing the high seas.

Beneath the glamorous surface, the seasoned sailor reveals months spent away from family and 16-hour work days – and no privacy to speak of.

The 31-year-old, from Buckinghamshire, spoke to MailOnline Travel about the highs and lows of the job. “I wouldn’t change my experiences for anything, but you have to accept that this lifestyle comes with its downsides,” she said.

Abbi started her superyacht journey in 2017, shortly after leaving a steady job as a project manager for a double door company. She had no plans other than ‘maybe travel a bit’ and ended up in this lifestyle by chance.

She completed compulsory training in Antibes, France. And within days she was on a 50-meter motor yacht in St. Tropez. After working as a crew member for a year, Abbi saved her tip money to pay for a culinary course at the Ashburton Chef Academy and switched to working in the galley.

Abbi is currently working on a mid-sized superyacht, serving up to eight guests and five crew members.

She works on a rotation basis, spending ten weeks at sea and ten weeks on land. Before that, she worked full-time and spent most of her time on board with only six weeks of vacation per year.

A typical day starts at 6:30 am with breakfast prepared and served and meals for the day planned. She then serves lunch, ranging from a three-course fine-dining menu to sharing platters ‘depending on what the guests prefer’.

Abbi takes a short break after lunch, before preparing a ‘sweet treat’ or afternoon tea at 3pm and canapés for cocktail hour at 6pm. At 7 p.m. she serves dinner and “tackles the mountain of dishes in the galley.”

After preparing dessert and drawing up a menu for the next day, she will finally rest at 11 p.m. Ready to do it all again.

One thing that surprised Abbi about working on a superyacht is how hard the work is.

She said: ‘It’s an easy assumption to think we’re on a “permanent holiday” and once the guests leave we’ll hang out on the yacht and have a good time. But in reality, the work on a boat is never done.

‘A superyacht must work perfectly and look new every time guests come on board. That takes a lot of work and a lot of night work to achieve that.’

And there are many problems when you spend a long time at sea.

From the impossibility of cooking while the ‘boat is bouncing along’ to the lack of work-life balance and routine, Abbi said the lifestyle is not ‘suitable for everyone’.

She said: ‘The obvious disadvantages are being away from family, not having privacy or any kind of work-life balance – difficult when you live at work – but what I have found most difficult as as I got older, there is a lack of routine or consistency. You build a group of friends in one port and get used to your life there, but at any moment you can be told by the captain that you are sailing to the other side of the world and have to start all over again.’

But for Abbi, working on a superyacht is ‘worth it’.

Highlights, she said, include visiting “some incredible countries I’ve never heard of,” with highlights including “sailing the Strait of Magellan in Patagonia, spending a whole year in Tahiti and exploring the islands Visiting Vanuatu’.

A close second in terms of travel are the “amazing people” she has met along the way. “When you have a good team around you, it hardly feels like work,” she said.

Abbi added, “You often have to go with the flow and roll with the punches. If you can do that, you can enjoy a great lifestyle and experience unique destinations.”

ANGRY shoppers are “absolutely disgusted” after Mother’s Day flowers from major retailers arrived “dead” and “moldy”.

Customers have criticized stores including M&S, MoonPig and Interflora after allegedly receiving dead flower arrangements.

Disappointed buyers complained on X, formerly Twitter, that the bunches they bought for Mother’s Day did not live up to what was promised.

An irate customer wrote to M&S: “Good morning, I have just unpacked the flowers my son and I gave to his mother for Mother’s Day and discovered they are moldy and not of the best quality.

“Not the best start to the day.”

Another wrote to the posh retailer: “Very disappointed with the quality of my Mother’s Day flowers. Droopy and Dying.

“Oh, M&S, you’ve really let yourself down this year. Two roses are dying and others are fading.”

Another “disappointed” customer shared a photo of a scarce bouquet they received from Moonpig.

The customer said: “@MoonpigUK, my two daughters bought me one of the Disney bouquets for Mother’s Day.

“To say I’m a little disappointed and upset is an understatement.

“They arrived with some completely squashed flowers and broken buds in the box.”

The Sun has contacted M&S for comment.

A spokesperson for Moonpig said the company “regrets that a very small number of customers are unhappy with their orders.”

They added: “Our customer service team is working hard to resolve all queries received as quickly as possible.”

A Sainsbury’s customer opened his bouquet of flowers and was left feeling “disgusted”.

On Facebook they wrote: “I am absolutely disgusted with the condition of my flowers!

’40 euros for a bunch of flowers and they’re damn dead!

“My 11 year old is heartbroken and I’ve had to put them in a vase to show her it doesn’t matter! £40 wasted!”

It’s not just Mother’s Day flowers that shoppers are looking forward to this year.

Another customer wrote on X saying the card they bought for their mother was “ruined” by the price sticker.

They said: “@sainsburys was very disappointed with the Mother’s Day cards. The stickers are NOT easy to remove and have ruined the card.”

The Sun has contacted Sainsbury’s for comment and we will update this story as soon as we hear back.

An Interflora customer has criticized the ‘terrible’ condition of his Mother’s Day flowers on social media.

They said: “Hello @InterfloraUK… I have to say, a case of theory versus practice?!

“This is a pretty horrible product to deliver. Scarce, broken heads, withered.

“A very poor show, the chocolates missing and a card I didn’t order. Very disappointing. £63, for this???”

Flowers are running out

Instead of a confirmation of receipt, some Interflora customers received a message that there were no flowers in stock.

This left some mothers empty-handed on Mother’s Day.

“A flower company that cannot deliver flowers, right!!!,” said a customer.

A screenshot of the message read: “Sometimes, at very short notice, demand for our products can exceed our supply in a given area.”

Interflora says it has received questions about a “small number of orders”.

A spokesperson told The Sun: “This Mother’s Day, our fantastic local florists across the country have created and personally delivered thousands of bouquets to help people connect and share their love.

“We’ve had queries about a small number of orders, but every order is important to us, so our brilliant customer service team always does everything they can to put things right if they don’t go quite to plan.”

What are my rights if my Mother’s Day flowers go wrong?

If your flowers are already wilting or browning petals and leaves, you may be entitled to a refund.

This also applies if they arrived crushed, damaged or do not match the online description.

According to consumer group Which? your complaint must fall under the Consumer Rights Act and should be made directly to the florist or shop where you purchased them.

Your refund should include the initial cost of the flowers as well as any delivery charges.

To start the process, you will need to take a photo of your flowers to support your complaint. This applies regardless of whether you are the sender or recipient.

Then provide the florist with as much information as possible about your order, including any order numbers and the delivery address.

You can also get a refund for the delivery costs if you paid extra for delivery on a specific day.

SHOPPERS were faced with a rush after a major retailer launched a sale at one of its branches.

Poundstretcher in Chesterfield is preparing to close its doors for the final time on March 16 in a blow to locals.

And the staff has launched a closing sale with a 50% discount, reports the Derbyshire Timeswhere shoppers would like to make a bargain.

Posting online, one person said: “It was absolutely manic,” while another added: “Never seen so many people in there.”

A third commented: “He was absolutely rammed,” and a fourth added: “I need to go get some of those bags before he closes.”

Others are devastated that the branch will close for good.

One said: “Just kidding! Just went there yesterday, some great bargains!”

Another commented: “Another bites the dust.”

And a third shouted: “OMG what else is closing, there won’t be anything left in the city.”

It comes after Poundstretcher closed a number of stores last year in a blow to locals.

The discount chain pulled down the shutters on branches in Kilmarnock, Scotland, Romford, Grimsby and Ebbw Vale, Wales.

It comes amid a turbulent time for the high street.

The Body Shop will close 75 branches after going into administration last month, closing seven on February 20.

Both Wilko and Paperchase also fell under the government last year, causing the loss of thousands of jobs and the closure of branches.

But it’s not all bad news for the shopping streets.

Discount retailer B&M will open 10 more branches in March and April, after opening 17 in January and February.

Asda is also massively expanding its portfolio of smaller Express stores.

Furthermore, in February Primark confirmed plans to open new branches and invest in and renovate more than a dozen of its existing stores.

Poundstretcher has opened and closed stores.

In February last year, the retailer announced plans to open a further 50 stores before the 2023 closure.

The new stores are expected to create 2,000 jobs over the next five years. The discount chain will open 30 locations in 2022.

According to the website, there are now more than 450 in the UK.

Doki Doki Literature Club took the world by storm when the dating simulator with a horror twist was originally released.
