Taylor Swift’s father Scott is accused of assaulting an Australian photographer on a Sydney dock as the pop star let down her hair after wrapping up her Eras tour.

NSW Police confirmed they were investigating claims that Scott Swift, 71, attacked Ben McDonald, 51, at a ferry terminal in the suburb of Neutral Bay about 2.30am on Tuesday.

It’s understood Taylor and her dad – affectionately known as ‘Papa Swift’ – were partying to celebrate her final show in Sydney when he allegedly punched Mr McDonald on the left side of his face.

The North Shore Police Command has launched an investigation into the alleged incident.

Mr McDonald, the CEO of Matrix Media Group, told Daily Mail Australia that Taylor and Scott traveled from Homebush on a luxury superyacht called Quantum after her performance.

When they got out, Scott “attacked” him, he claimed.

Mr McDonald initially thought it was a security guard and was shocked to realize the alleged attacker was Taylor’s father.

“In 23 years of taking pictures, I’ve never seen anything like this,” he said.

Mr McDonald said he did not know what prompted the alleged attack.

“He probably decided he had to defend his daughter for some reason,” he said.

“She got off the boat, walked towards the guards who were pushing umbrellas in our faces, and then he attacked.”

Footage of the alleged incident showed Taylor and her father leaving the dock with large umbrellas blocking the view.

Mr McDonald started shooting and a security guard could be heard telling him not to touch the umbrella.

The camera shook and there was movement from behind the umbrella.

A security guard could be heard saying: “That wasn’t me, that wasn’t me.”

Mr. McDonald asked, “Who was that?”

He then went to The Rocks Police Station and reported the alleged incident.

Mr McDonald did not require medical attention and does not believe he will suffer permanent injuries, but has “very painful chops” on the left side of his face.

Scott was a fixture at his daughter’s side during her sold-out Eras tour.

He has been praised for handing out sandwiches to fans in the middle of a show in Sydney and saying ‘help yourself’.

Additional tickets were released the day before Taylor’s first show in Melbourne earlier this month, but most had limited views of the stage.

Scott walked around handing out VIP passes so that excited fans would have access to better seats.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Taylor’s representatives for comment.

A Brooklyn man who, along with others, physically resisted law enforcement efforts to stop the mob that stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, was charged Wednesday with several crimes for what prosecutors said was his role in the riot used to be. .

The man, Mitchell Bosch, was charged with crimes of civil disorder and assaulting, resisting or obstructing certain officers, as well as several misdemeanors including being illegally on Capitol grounds, prosecutors said. He was not charged with entering the building.

Mr. Bosch, 44, was released without bail after an initial appearance in Federal District Court in Brooklyn. Wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and gray sweatpants, he told Magistrate Judge Vera M. Scanlon that he had moved to Florida in September and planned to travel there on Sunday. He and the federal public defender who represented him at the appearance declined to speak to reporters. As in other attacks on the Capitol, he will be prosecuted in Washington.

According to the Justice Department, Mr. Bosch is among more than 1,300 people charged in connection with the Jan. 6 riot. He and other supporters of former President Donald J. Trump descended on the Capitol in an attempt to halt the certification of Joe Biden as the winner of the 2020 presidential election. A federal investigation into the day's events continues.

Mr. Trump, who is seeking the Republican nomination in this year's presidential election, faces federal charges of conspiracy and other crimes stemming from the riot. He has pleaded not guilty.

An FBI agent, citing video footage from police officers' body-worn cameras, Capitol security cameras and other sources, described in a court filing how Mr. Bosch had joined other rioters in resisting an attempt by officers to to keep the crowd at bay that day. .

The footage, the officer said, shows Mr. Bosch “directly pushing against officers, assisting other rioters in pushing against officers, and encouraging other rioters to resist police.”

At one point, Mr. Bosch is seen moving into a line of officers, raising his hands toward an officer's riot shield and using his body to push on the shield as rioters around him do the same, the officer said. He stayed at the front of the crowd as it pushed the police line back several feet, the officer said.

A short time later, the officer said, body-worn camera footage shows Mr. Bosch moving to the back of the crowd and yelling at the rioters to “hold the line!” He then rushed back to the front of the crowd amid another confrontation between officers and rioters, the officer said. He was also involved in several other altercations, the officer said.

Mr. Bosch was previously arrested multiple times after participating protests against Covid-19 vaccine mandates in New York City, according to news reports. A registered Republican, he announced a run for a Brooklyn city council seat last year but was not eligible for the vote. He said on a financial disclosure form filed in connection with the federal case that he owned several rental properties and was a retired member of the armed forces.

Mr. Bosch is at least the fourth New York State man arrested this month on various felony charges stemming from the Jan. 6 riot.

The others are Christopher D. Finney, 32, of Hopewell Junction, who faces charges including obstruction of an official proceeding; Aaron D. Sauer, 43, of Syracuse, who is charged, among other things, with assaulting, resisting or obstructing certain officers; and James Weeks, 55, of Sodus, who is charged with the same crime. All three are charged with civil disorder.

As the game was about to go to penalties, the 25-year-old lunged at Dubravka, deliberately bumping into him.

Chidley also goaded the Slovakian goalkeeper during the December 19 match.

After being arrested, the loser blamed his behavior on 'over-exuberant celebrations' after the Blues scored in the final minutes.

Chidley avoided jail after pleading guilty to assault by beating at Westminster Magistrates' Court.

He was banned from football for three years and ordered to pay £1,215.

The court was told Dubravka had not made a statement and “doesn't appear to be overly concerned”.

Prosecutor Malachy Pakenham said Chidley climbed onto the pitch and targeted the Newcastle goalkeeper.

He added: “The steward tries to grab him, he then reaches out and grabs and touches the goalkeeper who pulls away from him.”

According to the prosecutor, the contact was 'fairly minimal'.

Footage showed Chidley also pointing in the goal-stopper's face before running away.

His defense said the supporter is “not a football hooligan” and that this was a “one-off incident”.

At sentencing, the judge said: “When I sentence you, I am not only thinking about the crime that was committed, but I also want to send a message to deter other people from doing something similar.”

A Pennsylvania hairdresser whose violent attacks on police on Jan. 6, 2021, were widely seen as the tipping point in the storming of the Capitol by a pro-Trump mob was convicted on federal charges on Friday.

The barber, Ryan Samsel, was one of the first people to confront police on Jan. 6 and breached barricades at what is known as the Peace Circle, allowing hundreds of others behind him to breach the Capitol grounds and eventually the building. yourself. Prosecutors at a trial against Mr. Samsel and four co-defendants, who were also convicted of assault and other charges, said the men's actions “ignited a fire that burned in the Capitol for more than four hours.”

The guilty verdicts, handed down by the judge after a trial in Federal District Court in Washington, were the latest reminder that the prosecutions of those who took part in the storming of the Capitol continue even more than three years after the attack. This week alone, charges against at least nine additional defendants were unveiled, bringing the total number of suspects in connection with the attack on the Capitol to more than 1,260.

The attack on the building was also at the center of the 2024 presidential campaign, when former President Donald J. Trump spotlighted those who took part, calling them “hostages” and “political prisoners.” As he has often done with potential political liabilities, Trump has attempted to flip the script on the attack on the Capitol and turn it to his electoral advantage through a campaign of sustained disinformation, built around the claim that the Department of Justice prosecutes him and his supporters. .

Last week, a federal judge in Washington appointed by President Ronald Reagan denounced such efforts to rewrite Jan. 6 history, calling them “shameless,” “ridiculous” and potentially a “danger to our country.”

“In my 37 years on the bench, I cannot recall a time when such worthless justifications of criminal activity have become mainstream,” Judge Royce C. Lamberth wrote. “I have been appalled to see distortions and outright falsehoods seep into the public consciousness.”

Mr. Samsel, who was arrested in January 2021, became a well-known figure in the attack on the Capitol after photos and videos emerged of him speaking with Joseph Biggs, a leader of the far-right group the Proud Boys, moments before he approached police . barricades and began confronting the officers behind them.

Videos also showed that Mr. Just before he began attacking police, Samsel was approached by Ray Epps, an Arizona man falsely accused by right-wing pundits and politicians of being an undercover agent who incited the riot as a way to discredit the riot to bring. Mr. Trump's supporters.

While Judge Jia M. Cobb, who presided over the trial, found all defendants guilty of at least some crimes, including obstructing the final certification of the 2020 election, she also acquitted them of federal charges.

Judge Cobb ruled that prosecutors had failed to prove, as the law requires, that the men knowingly got too close to a person protected by the Secret Service — in this case, Vice President Mike Pence, who was in the Capitol on January 6. oversee election certification.

The government has charged hundreds of people with violating the trespass law. But Judge Cobb joined two other Washington judges who recently threw out the indictment in what could spell trouble for the law's use in connection with Jan. 6 riot cases.

In a surprise move, an Iran-linked militia in Iraq, which the Pentagon says is likely responsible for a deadly drone attack on a US base in Jordan over the weekend, announced on Tuesday that it would suspend military operations in Iraq under pressure from Iraqi forces. government would suspend. and from Iran.

The announcement came shortly after President Biden said he had decided how to respond to Sunday's attack in Jordan that killed three U.S. soldiers, though he did not say what that response would be. His comment sparked fears in Iraq of a possible US retaliatory attack on its territory.

The militia, Kata'ib Hezbollah, or Brigades of the Party of God, is the largest and most established of the Iran-linked groups operating in Iraq. It has led the majority of the approximately 160 attacks on US military installations in Iraq and Syria that have taken place since Israel began its ground operations in Gaza, in response to the October 7 attack that Hamas led from the enclave.

The U.S. military has about 2,500 troops in Iraq advising and training the Iraqi military, and about 900 in Syria supporting the Kurdish Syrian forces in their fight against the Islamic State.

Kata'ib Hezbollah is part of what is known as the Axis of Resistance, a network of Iranian-backed groups operating in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen and sometimes beyond. (Kata'ib Hezbollah is separate from the Hezbollah militia in Lebanon.)

The other two Iraqi groups believed to have been involved in the attacks on US targets – Harakat al Nujaba and Sayyid Shuhada – have not announced they will halt the attacks.

Kata'ib Hezbollah leader Abu Hussein al-Hamidawi said in a statement: “We announce the suspension of military and security operations against the occupying forces – to avoid embarrassing the Iraqi government.” It was the first time the militia had publicly declared the suspension of operations.

The statement made clear that Iran had put pressure on the group to stop attacks on US forces and that Kata'ib Hezbollah was not happy about that. The group made a point of suggesting that it chooses its own goals and timing, rather than following Iran's orders.

“Our brothers in the Axis, especially in the Islamic Republic of Iran, do not know how we conduct our Jihad, and they often object to the pressure and escalation against the US occupation forces in Iraq and Syria,” the statement said.

Asked about Kata'ib Hezbollah's announcement, a Defense Department spokesperson, Major General Pat Ryder, said at a Pentagon briefing: “I have no specific comment to make other than actions speak louder than words.”

He added: “I will refrain from editorializing on these types of comments after more than 160 attacks on US troops.”

Interviews with Iraqi and Iranian officials close to both governments indicate that intensive negotiations have taken place in recent days to push Kata'ib Hezbollah to stop its attacks.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani began pushing for a halt several weeks ago, according to senior government advisers. He tried to start negotiations on a possible withdrawal of the US-led international military presence in Iraq, but the US side had been reluctant to negotiate while under fire, Iraqi and US officials said.

The United States ultimately agreed to start talks with no guarantee that the attacks would stop, but with a clear push in that direction.

Kata'ib Hezbollah and other groups had ignored the Iraqi government's request to step down, but when Sunday's attack in Jordan cost American lives, Mr. Sudani demanded a complete shutdown of Kata'ib Hezbollah. Mr. Sudani has contacted Iran directly, according to a military strategist for the Revolutionary Guards, which works closely with the Axis groups in Iraq.

Mr. Sudani made the argument that he was trying to negotiate what Iran wanted most — an end to the presence of American troops in Iraq — and that Kata'ib Hezbollah's attacks were undermining his government's ability to do so, the report said. Iranian military strategist and a senior Iraqi official, who spoke anonymously to discuss private negotiations.

An Iraqi government spokesman, Hisham al-Rikabi, painted much the same picture. “The decision of Kata'ib Hezbollah came as a result of the action taken internally and externally by the Prime Minister to prevent escalation and to ensure the smooth conclusion of negotiations on completing the process of withdrawal of the international coalition from Iraq guarantee,” he said.

Mr al-Rikabi added: “We hope that all parties will listen to the government's call to reduce tension and ensure that there are no hotspots of tension in the region, and in Iraq in particular. ”

The negotiations involved senior officials in Mr. Sudani's government who are close to Iran, according to Iraqi and Iranian officials close to their respective government leaders. Among those involved in the negotiations were former Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and the leaders of two armed groups that have not targeted US forces: Qais al-Khazali and Hadi al-Ameri. The talks on the Iranian side included General Esmail Qaani, the leader of the Quds Force, a division of the Revolutionary Guard that works with Axis groups outside Iran.

Reporting was contributed by Falih Hassan from Baghdad, Farnaz Fassihi from New York and Erik Schmitt from Washington.

Investigators identified Mr. Richmond from several images and footage of the Jan. 6 breach of the Capitol, including closed-circuit television footage and video captured by officers' body-worn cameras, according to an affidavit written by an FBI agent filed with the criminal complaint in the US District Court in Washington.

Mr. Richmond is seen in the images filed in the complaint wearing a black helmet, goggles, shoulder pads and a Louisiana state flag patch attached to a camouflage patterned vest.

Closed-circuit television footage shows him sitting among a group of rioters near the tunnel the capital. Body-worn camera footage from officers shows him “using a baton to strike law enforcement officers multiple times,” prosecutors said.

Mr. Richmond will make his first appearance in the U.S. Middle District Court of Louisiana at 10 a.m. Tuesday, said his attorney, John McLindon. He declined to comment on the case.

To date, federal authorities have charged more than 1,265 people in connection with the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol, including more than 440 charged with “assaulting or obstructing” police officers, according to the Justice Department.

A man has been charged after allegedly attacking another man in a bar before stabbing a taxi driver and a food delivery worker within 24 hours.

The 25-year-old was arrested just before 2pm on Saturday in Redfern, inner-city Sydney, where the three alleged attacks took place, and has been charged with a range of offenses including assault and possession of a prohibited drug.

Emergency services were called to a bar on Phillip Street in Redfern before midday on Friday after reports that a 56-year-old man had been attacked.

Zara has always been outgoing, which is why people seem to see her as relatable just about everywhere she goes.

She has the lovable X factor.

People warm up to Zara, just like her mother, Princess Anne, because she is hardworking and authentic.

Her achievements speak for themselves. She is a true Olympian and a member of the Team GB equestrian team.

A hulking center, Mike was at the heart of the England rugby team that won the World Cup in 2003 – in Australia, beating the Australians.

There is a ‘what you see is what is’ confidence about them as a couple.

Mike is a man who readily admits that he once split his pants while dancing with the Princess Royal, his mother-in-law.

He has the confidence and humor to tease the Prince of Wales with ‘One-pint Willy’ for his lack of drinking skills.

Mike and Zara are tactile, not afraid to show affection and smile brightly for the cameras.

Millions of TV viewers will remember dancing carefree and happily to Lionel Richie and Take That at the Coronation concert.

Naturally, they are friendly to their hosts and regularly praise the Australian outdoor lifestyle.

So it’s no wonder the Aussies like them – or that Sydney commentator Angela Mollard wrote in MailOnline yesterday that the Tindalls’ approach could kill republicanism dead.

All this while earning their own money – without burdening taxpayers.

Perhaps this is what The Princess Royal and her then-husband Captain Mark Phillips had in mind when they decided against giving their children Zara and Peter HRH nicknames or fancy titles.

They thought the children would have an easier childhood without them. It worked.

Mike and Zara have also done well commercially and have earned millions together.

After all, they’re not just for the sun Down Under.

They are there because Zara is sponsored by thoroughbred auction house Magic Millions, which organizes a horse selling and racing festival on the Gold Coast.

Mike has his own business ventures, including a well-received podcast with fellow ex-international James Haskell, the Good, the Bad & the Rugby.

It has been suggested that Tindall’s earning potential could have even greater potential than that of Zara’s cousin Harry and wife Meghan in Montecito.

One analyst, Giles Kenningham of Trafalgar Strategy, said yesterday that the Tindalls are now the “first royal couple” when it comes to commercial deals as Harry and Meghan’s brand has been tarnished.

It would be stupid to write off the Sussexes just yet.

But we can be clear about this: Zara and Mike Tindall, unencumbered by royal titles or royal appearance, have achieved huge success everywhere they go.

And unlike the Sussexes, they have achieved this without revealing family secrets or attacking the monarchy.

Since mid-November, the Houthis, a Yemeni rebel group allied with Hamas and backed by Iran, have dozens of attacks launched on ships transiting the Red Sea and the Suez Canal, a crucial shipping route through which 12 percent of world trade passes.

Early Friday morning, the United States and a handful of allies including Britain hit back and launched a rocket attack on Houthi targets in Yemen, further putting the spotlight on the rebels and their long-running armed struggle.

The attack on Houthi bases came a day after the United Nations Security Council voted to condemn “in the strongest terms” at least 20 attacks by the Houthis on merchant and commercial ships, which it said had hampered global trade and had undermined freedom of navigation. .

Here’s a primer on the Houthis, their relationship with Hamas, and the attacks in the Red Sea.

The Houthis, led by Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, are an Iranian-backed group of Shiites rebels who have been fighting the Yemeni government for about twenty years and now control the northwest of the country and the capital Sana.

They have built their ideology around opposition to Israel and the United States, seeing themselves as part of the Iranian-led “axis of resistance,” along with Hamas in the Gaza Strip and Hezbollah in Lebanon. Their leaders often draw parallels between American-made bombs their forces to defeat Yemen and the poor sent to Israel and used in Gaza.

In 2014, a military coalition led by Saudi Arabia intervened to try to restore the country’s original government after the Houthis seized the capital, starting a civil war that killed hundreds of thousands of people.

Last April, talks between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia raised hopes of a peace deal that might recognize the Houthis’ right to rule northern Yemen.

The Houthis were once a group of poorly organized rebels strengthened their arsenal in recent years, and it now also includes cruise and ballistic missiles and long-range drones. Analysts credit this expansion to support from Iran, which has supplied militias across the Middle East to expand its own influence.

When the war between Israel and Hamas began on October 7, the Houthis declared their support for Hamas and said they would target any ship traveling to or leaving Israel.

Yahya Sarea, a Houthi spokesman, has repeatedly said the group is attacking ships to protest the “murder, destruction and siege” in Gaza and to show solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Authorities in Gaza say more than 23,000 people, most of them civilians, have been killed in Israel’s bombing campaign and ground offensive that began after Hamas carried out cross-border raids and, according to Israeli authorities, massacred about 1,200 people.

Since November, the Houthis have launched 27 drone and missile attacks on ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden that they say are heading to or leaving Israeli ports. The latest was at 2 a.m. Thursday, when a missile landed near a commercial ship, the U.S. military said.

Perhaps the most daring Houthi operation took place on November 19, when armed men a ship hijacked renamed the Galaxy Leader and took it to a Yemeni port, where the 25 crew, mostly Filipinos, were held captive.

Speaking to reporters in Bahrain on Wednesday, US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken warned that continued Houthi attacks in the Red Sea could disrupt supply chains and in turn raise the cost of everyday goods. The Houthis attacks have hit ships linked to more than 40 countries, he said.

The world’s largest container companies, MSC and Maersk, have said they are avoiding the region, and shipping companies are as well. left with difficult options.

Diverting ships around Africa adds 6,000 kilometers and ten days to shipping lanes and requires more fuel. But continuing to use the Red Sea would increase insurance premiums. Either option would cause a bruise the already fragile global economy.

The Biden administration repeatedly condemned the Houthi attacks in the Red Sea and established a naval task force to try to contain them.

The task force, called Operation Prosperity Guardian, brought together the United States, Britain and other allies and patrolled the Red Sea to promote, in Mr. Blinken’s words, “the freedom of navigation” and “the freedom of navigation.” to keep.

Bahrain is the only Middle Eastern country to have agreed to this Participate. While many countries in the region rely on trade passing through the Red Sea, many do not want to be associated with the United States, Israel’s closest ally, analysts say.

US and British warships intercepted some Houthi missiles and drones before reaching their targets. On Wednesday, American fighter jets from the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, along with four other warships, intercepted 18 dronesTwo anti-ship cruise missiles and one anti-ship ballistic missile, the Central Command said in a statement.

On December 31, US Navy helicopters sank three Houthi boats who attacked a commercial freighter.

Sixth choice Golden Globes host Jo Koy has been accused of hypocrisy over his woke, unfunny jokes attacking the royal family – as he was about to perform in Bahrain.

Jo Koy, 52, was greeted with faint laughter last night as he hosted the revamped awards show in Beverly Hills, California, making a slew of jokes that didn’t seem to resonate with much of the audience.

Despite making woke jokes about the British royal family being “rich, white, dysfunctional and scheming,” Koy will happily perform at London’s 02 Arena on May 3, with tickets priced at a whopping $141.

On May 24, the comedian – who is half white and half Filipino – will also perform at the Al Dana Amphitheater in Bahrain, where a front row ticket costs $82.

Bahrain is known for its notoriously bleak human rights record, anti-LGBT laws, torture of political prisoners, and general disregard for the Western way of life.

In 2012, Kim Kardashian faced backlash for going on a trip to Bahrain – and was met in the street by 50 Muslim protesters who opposed her presence in the Gulf country.

Human rights activists also criticized football star David Beckham and other celebrities such as Guy Ritchie and Catherine Zeta-Jones for attending the Bahrain Grand Prix in April 2019.

Koy will also perform later this year in Abu Dhabi, UAE, a country with struggling freedom of expression and LGBT rights.

Early last year, Beyoncé was heavily criticized after receiving $24 million for her performance at a concert in Dubai – where homosexuality is illegal.

At the Golden Globes, Koy made a joke to Taylor Swift, who is dating Travis Kelce.

He said, “The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL is that we have less camera footage of Taylor Swift at the Golden Globes.”

The live broadcast quickly cut to the singer, who was sitting at her table, shooting a death glare at Koy as she sipped a drink.

After the show, Koy told ET, “Maybe she was thirsty? Maybe she should just drink champagne.’

His performance was not well received online – with one person writing: ‘Do you think Jo Koy woke up this morning and thought, “I totally completed my hosting duties last night”?’

Another person added: “Everyone was angry because Jo Koy’s jokes were offensive, I’m angry because they were so unfunny.”

Chris Rock, Ali Wong, Will Arnett, Sean Hayes and Jason Bateman all turned down the chance to host the Golden Globes — and Koy was ultimately announced with just over two weeks to go before the evening.

Koy’s comedic approach saw him praise nominated shows before scrutinizing them.

He said: ‘I love this year’s nominated TV shows like ‘Succession.’ After four wonderful seasons, it’s coming to an end. I loved everything.

“The one thing this show has taught me is that if you’re a billionaire, you have to back off. None of them will be like you. They will be a bad version of you,” Koy began.

‘Succession has nine nominations. Just a great show about a rich, white, dysfunctional family, all scheming – oh, wait, that’s “The Crown.” I’m sorry.’

Koy wasn’t done roasting the royal family when he made a joke about the royal family’s work habits.

“Harry and Meghan Markle got paid millions for doing absolutely nothing – and that’s only from Netflix.”

Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos visibly laughed at Koy’s joke.

One joke that seemed to resonate with the audience was when Koy made fun of Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon.

“White people stole everything!” said Koy, whose mother is Filipino but his father is white.

“Not like 97 percent. You stole 100 percent of everything. You took the land, you took the oil, you took the premise of the movie.

‘Was that your starting point? That’s hilarious, I don’t care. It’s just that the room is very white,” Koy continued.

Scorsese seemed unimpressed by the joke.

Koy, who hosted the ceremony for the first time, warned the audience against placing high expectations on his performance.

“I got this gig ten days ago,” he told the crowd. ‘Do you want a perfect monologue? I wrote some of these jokes and they make you laugh.”

Koy made a name for himself by appearing in four Netflix stand-up comedy specials and the Queens sitcom Awkwafina Is Nora.

He has attempted a more determined attempt at humor after the somber performance of host Jerrod Carmichael last year, who encouraged the audience to be quiet before speaking bluntly. “I’m here because I’m black.”

A few years ago, the Golden Globes were on the verge of collapse.

After The Los Angeles Times reported that the HFPA had no black members, Hollywood boycotted the organization. The 2022 Globes were all but canceled and taken off television.

After reforms, the Globes returned to NBC last year on a one-year deal, but the show was canceled until Tuesday night.

With Jerrod Carmichael as host, the broadcast drew 6.3 million viewers, a new low on NBC and a far cry from the 20 million who once tuned in.

The Golden Globes have since added 11 new members, bringing the total number of eligible voters to 300 people and achieving 60 percent diversity, the organization announced last fall.

“Our commitment to preserving the diversity of our voting body continues,” said Helen Hoehne, president of the Golden Globes. “Our voters represent 76 countries who bring a unique international perspective to nominating the best films and television this year.”

The 300-member voting body is now 47 percent female and 60 percent racial and ethnic groups, including 26 percent Latinx, 13.3 percent Asian, 11 percent Black and 9 percent Middle Eastern.

The voters come from several countries, including Armenia, Cameroon, Costa Rica, Cuba, Guatemala, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Serbia and Tanzania.
