Daniel Paul Heazlewood lived a wealthy lifestyle, wore a $10,000 designer watch, dated women at expensive restaurants and learned to fly planes on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

Apart from his job as a roofer, no one really knew where the money came from, nor did they know the horrifying secret of Heazlewood and the life he had left behind 200km away on the Gold Coast.

Heazlewood had changed his name to Daniel Blake and wanted to charm women with the rules he had written in a “What Dating Dan Looks Like” list on a whiteboard.

The list included candlelit baths, beach trips in a 4WD, kissing and ‘biting… often’ and ‘any sex ranging from passionate to rough (high sex drive, lasts a long time)’.

His dating guide worked, and women thought “he seemed like the guy who had it all.”

‘He was muscular, neatly dressed and always had cash on him. Would eat and drink,” an acquaintance told Daily Mail Australia.

The truth about who he really was only fully emerged on Australia Day, when Heazlewood allegedly lost control and brandished a crowbar at one of his friends.

The police were called. It was not until almost a month later that a warrant for his arrest culminated in an appearance before the Maroochydore Magistrates Court and he was taken back into custody.

In reality, the ‘romantic’ tradie was a convicted murderer who took his own mother’s life because he was ashamed that she was a ‘bogan’. He then bought a shovel from Bunnings and put her body in the boot of his car, a court heard.

He was caught murdering his mother, Linda Sidon, only nine years after her death in 2009, and has never been able to say exactly where he dumped her body in the scrubland of the Numinbah Valley, southwest of the Gold Coast.

After serving just 29 months behind bars, Heazlewood left prison, changed his name and started a new life on the Sunshine Coast where, until his final arrest, few who knew him realized he was an ex-con who was on parole for manslaughter and interference with his mother’s corpse.

Now Daily Mail Australia can exclusively reveal Heazlewood is back in a Queensland prison, and friends have shared what could be the 37-year-old’s sinister secret about how he killed his mother.

Heazlewood is currently in custody at the Brisbane Correctional Center on the crowbar charge and is believed to have breached his parole for the charge relating to his mother’s death, which is only expiring April 2025.

He is due to appear in court early next month on one charge of ‘going armed to cause fear’.

Heazlewood murdered his mother when he was 22 years old in the Ashmore, Gold Coast duplex they shared on or about June 20, 2009.

He then kept it a secret for years, as if she had returned to her native New Zealand.

After killing her in what detectives initially described as murder, he bought agricultural lime in an attempt to decompose her flesh and bones because he had seen it ‘in a film’, a court heard.

He then drove 36 km to Pine Creek Road in the Numinbah Forest and dug a shallow grave in a creek or waterhole.

It wasn’t until 2018 that he would admit to police that he killed his mother, but he claimed it was in self-defense, resulting in a minimum sentence of just four years and nine months.

In a police interview he said his mother had come at him with a butter knife during a fight and “I had my forearm like around her neck and we were arguing and then she stopped moving,” the court was told.

Heazlewood was eligible for parole and walked out of prison in February 2021, first to the Brisbane suburb of Carina and then to Maroochydore.

He told people who befriended him on Instagram that the reason he only had about 30 followers is because he had just moved from the Gold Coast and was “starting over”, laughing off a new friend’s question when he was just in had been in prison. .

He started taking flying lessons and boasted about his intention to become a pilot.

One of his new friends revealed that the killer had a phobia of drowning, to the point that he couldn’t watch movies with drowning scenes.

He blamed his mother for the phobia, saying she made him watch a drowning video.

In 2009, the police searched for the remains of Daniel's mother

The body of Daniel’s mother (left, police search for it) was left near Pine Creek Road in the Numinbah Valley (right), but police believe it may never be found.

But one of the people he befriended said they suspected there was another reason: that instead of his armed mother dying in battle, he had “drowned” her and left her in the water in the undergrowth abandoned.

‘I can’t help but have a bad feeling about it. I believe it is something sinister,” the friend said.

When authorities searched parts of the 116 square kilometer Numinbah Valley for Ms Sidon’s body following Heazlewood’s confession, they concluded it might never be found due to the fact that water levels had risen and her bones might have been washed away.

Heazlewood dated several women after his release from prison but proved “incredibly toxic” and was “emotionally abusive and manipulative”, they said.

When new friends eventually found out Daniel’s real name and Googled him, he admitted to killing his mother but made excuses.

One woman “went home and couldn’t stop vomiting,” but took pity on him after he told a story about “being abused as a child by both his mother and father, in and out of foster care.”

However, Heazlewood’s stories of an abusive childhood do not fit the narrative and Ms Sidon’s family said he was never in foster care.

Mrs. Sidon, a 46-year-old cleaning lady, continued to house, feed and care for her son even as he grew up and began to despise her.

As a man in his early twenties, he boasted to friends that it would be “so easy to break her neck” and denigrated his mother as “a bogan, a whore and a ***.”

Ms Sidon had told her father in New Zealand that Heazlewood had ‘beat her up a lot’, and it was he who informed New Zealand authorities of her disappearance in late 2010.

Police charged Heazlewood with murder in 2015, but reduced the charge to manslaughter in 2018. was convicted by the Supreme Court of Queensland.

He served only 29 months in prison.

He faces a possible maximum sentence of two years if found guilty of the charges related to the alleged crowbar incident.

Woolworths CEO Brad Banducci has announced he is stepping down just days after walking out of an ABC interview and in the wake of the supermarket's controversial decision not to stock Australia Day merchandise.

The supermarket announced on Wednesday morning that South African-born Mr Banducci will retire in September after eight and a half years as CEO and 13 years with the company as a whole.

Mr. Banducci will be replaced by current CEO Amanda Bardwell, who will receive a base salary of $2.15 million with generous bonus benefits.

It comes just days after the embattled boss walked out of an ABC interview after asking for one of his answers to be cut.

Mr Banducci has also come under fire in recent months over Woolworth's decision not to stock Australia Day merchandise.

The move caused widespread anger, with Opposition Leader Peter Dutton calling for a boycott of the store.

Some customers demanded Mr Banducci's dismissal, while Woolworths employees bore the brunt of the backlash after facing abuse from customers.

In a memo to staff, obtained by Daily Mail Australia, Mr Banducci told staff he was “deeply sorry” they had to endure the backlash.

“I would like to personally apologize to all of you for the way our merchandising decision was received – and how it resulted in hurtful and inappropriate responses directed at you, our team members,” Mr. Banducci wrote.

He has also been criticized for alleged price gouging by supermarkets.

More to come.

It's been more than two centuries since the Royal Navy's first fleet arrived at Sydney Cove and hoisted the flag of Great Britain.

The legacy of the past has become more complicated over the years – not least when it comes to the question of whether or not Australia should retain King Charles as head of state.

The good news for Britain is that a referendum on this issue has been postponed following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

But one royal connection that has escaped much scrutiny until now is this: we can reveal that one of the Princess of Wales's ancestors was on board the First Fleet to travel to Australia.

Lieutenant David Blackburn, captain of HMS Supply, one of the ships in question, set sail with the fleet from Portsmouth, Hampshire at 4am on 13 May 1787.

The intention was to establish a penal colony in Australia.

Blackburn, who was related to Kate on her father's side, had celebrated his 35th birthday on board the ship on New Year's Day 1788 before arriving at Botany Bay on January 18 and, while the rest of the fleet sailed to Sydney Cove – now Circular Quay – eight days later.

This first fleet of eleven ships, six of which carried convicts from Great Britain to Australia, was under the overall command of Captain Arthur Phillip, who later became the first Governor of New South Wales.

A report from the time recorded events as follows: 'At daybreak a large task force had landed from HM Brig 'Supply' (the first ship to enter Sydney Harbour) to cut down trees, clear the ground find land depots, erect a flagpole and tents, and prepare a camp.

'The remaining ten ships of the fleet had arrived in Sydney Harbor from Botany Bay about evening, which the Governor, after reconnaissance, did not consider suitable for the settlement, the anchorage being unsafe on account of the shallow depth and swampy nature of the settlement. foreshore.'

The moment when Arthur Phillip raises the Union Flag was depicted by British impressionist Algernon Talmage in 1937 to mark the 150th anniversary of the landing.

The painting, which was first exhibited at the Royal Academy, now hangs in Tate Britain.

Blackburn is sixth from the left.

“On the evening of the 26th the colors were displayed ashore,” Phillip noted.

'The Governor, with some of his principal officers and others, gathered round the flagstaff, drank the King's health and success to the settlement with all that display of form, which on such occasions is considered auspicious as it quickens the spirit and fills the spirit. imagination with pleasant predictions.'

Blackburn, the cousin of Kate's great-great-grandmother Dame Sarah Martineau, became commander of HMS Sirius during its voyage to Norfolk Island in 1790.

He died in 1795 at the age of 42.

Historian Michael Reed, who discovered the connection, said: 'I discovered handwritten letters from Kate's ancestor Sarah Martineau and her family in the National Library of Australia.'

He considers them crucial to Australian history.

'These letters reveal her private thoughts and show that she lent her cousin £10 [the equivalent of £1300 or $A2,500 today] to help him buy navigation equipment and expensive new uniforms needed for the journey.

'David was one of the first Englishmen to try to talk to indigenous Australians, by recording and translating their language.'

He later sent 'Drawings of Birds, Plants and Fish of this Country' to his family in Norwich.

It's been ten years since the Prince and Princess of Wales visited Australia, where they posed for photos in front of the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbor Bridge and took their first-born son, Prince George, to Taronga Zoo.

There was speculation that the Waleses would visit Australia at some point, perhaps ahead of the tour expected by the King and Queen.

However, with both the king and princess recently suffering medical setbacks, extended foreign travel seems unlikely in the short term.

A swimmer who went missing from a Victorian beach on Sunday has been identified as Jona Kinivuwai, 20.

Mr Kinivuwai was swept out to sea while swimming with two friends at Number Sixteen Beach in Rye on the Mornington Peninsula, 100km south of Melbourne.

His older brother, Joji, said it has been a terrible time for the family.

“He is the youngest of four and we are all very protective of him,” he told the newspaper Herald Sun on Monday.

“When we heard the news last night, we were all going through a really hard time.”

A swimmer who went missing from a Victorian beach on Sunday has been identified as Jona Kinivuwai (pictured)

He said Jonah, whose birthday was on Australia Day, loved sport, especially rugby.

Family members, including Joji, another brother and their father, have remained on the beach since Jonah's disappearance, desperately hoping for good news.

“The police and SES have done a great job and we really appreciate it,” Joli said. “We just want him back with us.”

Bad weather conditions, including strong winds, complicated the search on Monday.

Police said search efforts are being conducted primarily by land and air because conditions are too “treacherous” for water searches.

Emergency services were called to the scene around 7 p.m. on Sunday evening after reports that some swimmers were in trouble.

The two men swimming with Jonah managed to make it back to shore safely and were taken to Frankston Hospital in a stable condition.

The police assume that the men ended up in a crack.

Earlier this weekend, a man drowned while diving in the waters off a nearby pier.

The man, who has yet to be identified, was found at 10am on Saturday by other divers who pulled him ashore at Rye Pier.

Other divers attempted to revive the man, but emergency services arrived shortly afterwards and confirmed he had died.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his drowning and will prepare a report for the coroner.

Earlier on Saturday, another man drowned when his boat capsized after being hit by a large wave at Barwon Heads, about 20km south-east of Geelong, Victoria, about 6.50am.

There were two men on the boat, one who was trapped underneath and subsequently drowned and another who was rescued by a jet skier.

The 61-year-old Moriac man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 66-year-old man from Anglesea was pulled from the water by police and pronounced dead at the scene.

NSW Police have shut down two more neo-Nazi rallies in Sydney in less than 24 hours, with Premier Chris Minns vowing to crack down on right-wing extremists.

After police stopped a group of men in black clothing and balaclavas associated with the National Socialist Network from boarding a train at North Sydney Station on Australia Day, police again broke up the far-right group's rallies in North Turramurra on Saturday evening and Artarmon on Sunday off. morning.

At North Turramurra on Sydney's north shore, group leader Thomas Sewell was granted an extension of the public safety order on Saturday evening, banning him from several parts of Sydney until midnight on Sunday.

“Police have issued a public safety order extension to a 31-year-old man, banning him from entering a number of local government areas in Sydney until midnight (on Sunday),” NSW Police said in a statement.

“The order extension was served in North Turramurra (on Saturday) evening.”

Police descended on North Turamurra on Saturday evening, where dozens of members of the neo-Nazi group gathered.

A local witness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the group began gathering around the local scout hall in the afternoon.

“There were a large number of young men present, as well as some young women, mostly dressed in black clothing, and the scout hall was certainly open and apparently used by the group,” the resident told NCA Newswire.

A large police presence was seen around the hall, including around 10 police cars.

In a separate incident on Sunday morning, there was a heavy police presence on the Artarmon Reserve as the membership group gathered again in public.

Photos from the scene showed police watching as a group of men dressed in black gathered in the suburban park.

NSW Police said on Sunday morning that a police operation had been completed without arrests after the group moved on without incident.

Police, including officers from the Raptor Squad and Public Order and Riot Squad, were called to the reservation after the group of about 30 men began gathering around 8:30 a.m.

“The group … was verbally served with an updated public safety order banning them from entering further local government areas in Sydney,” NSW Police said.

“The group dispersed and no arrests were made.”

It came a day after police stormed North Sydney train station on Australia Day following reports that a group of about 60 men wearing balaclavas and all-black outfits boarded a train into the city.

The men are affiliated with the National Socialist Network, which is led by convicted criminal Thomas Sewell.

The 30-year-old leader and his followers boarded a train at Artarmon station, further up Sydney's northern line, on Friday afternoon.

The group of men wore sunglasses, balaclavas and masks as they chanted and waved Australian flags.

All passengers were evacuated and no one was reported injured.

Police arrested six members of the group on Friday morning and issued 61 infringement notices for offensive behaviour. Two members have now been released without charge.

NSW Premier Chris Minns strongly denounced the act and said he would be open to strengthening laws against 'White Power salutes'.

He said officers were able to delay trains between Artarmon – where the group boarded – and North Sydney so officers from the Public Order and Riot Squad and North Sydney Command could intercept the group.

Upon the train's arrival at North Sydney station, the public was asked to leave the train while police removed the men.

“This threat was stopped before a very ugly confrontation on the streets of Sydney. There is no place for this kind of fascism, neo-Nazism or far-right extremism on this great day, Australia Day,” Minns told reporters.

“The vast, vast majority of people living in (this) state would completely reject any notion or idea that this group of far-right extremists and neo-Nazis is needed on our national holiday.”

Prior to the incident, the group had been issued a public safety order by NSW Police to stay away from Australia Day events.

Mr Minns said this behavior was not welcome in NSW, and anyone who “attempted to reconvene and do this again” would be met with “overwhelming force from NSW Police”.

“No normal person wears a balaclava, let alone on Australia Day on public transport,” he said.

“If it wasn't so threatening, it would be completely ridiculous.”

It follows the NSW Government's recent announcement that it will investigate section 93Z of the Crimes Act, which establishes laws against publicly threatening or inciting violence against anyone on the grounds of race, religious belief or belief.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Saturday joined in condemning the group's behavior.

He said he was 'shocked' by the images.

“I don't want to see people in balaclavas, dressed from head to toe in black, engaging in neo-Nazi activities in this country,” he said.

'It has no place and it has been rightly condemned by all decent people.'

Following the public incidents involving the National Socialist Network, Alex Ryvchin, co-CEO of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry, said he was “heartbroken and alarmed by the return of genocidal anti-Semitism”.

He said recent public displays of anti-Semitism should be a “source of shame” for society and a “deep collective reflection on how little we have learned.”

“We are reminded that the desire to destroy the Jews has not diminished, only the means to carry it out have been temporarily suppressed,” Mr. Ryvchin said.

“The audacity of anti-Semites in Australia, the freedom of mainstream online influencers, neo-Nazi cells and supporters of jihadist terror to incite against our community with virtually no consequences, is particularly chilling.”

A witness has recalled his frantic efforts to save the life of a teenage girl killed in a horrific boating accident on Australia Day, as her heartbroken younger brother pays tribute to his big sister.

Darcy Sutherland, 16, was in one of two cans, both driven by 16-year-old boys, that collided near the Grays Point boat ramp, in Sydney's south, shortly after 10.15am on Friday.

Ms Sutherland was thrown into the water and spent up to five minutes face down in the water before onlookers began performing CPR, witnesses claim.

Paramedics frantically tried to resuscitate the teenager on the coast before she was rushed to St George Hospital in Kogarah in Sydney's south-east, where she later died.

Scott Edwards witnessed the accident and was one of several bystanders who rushed to pull the teen from the water and return her to shore.

Mr Edwards said he was still struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.

“It was extremely difficult to watch,” he wrote on Facebook.

“I did everything I could to save her life.”

Despite online speculation that speed could have been a factor in the accident, Mr Edwards said this was not the case at all.

'None of the boats involved were speeding or blaring. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention,” he said.

'[It was] just a tragic accident.

“My heart goes out to Darcy's family.”

Meanwhile, Darcy's younger brother Zayn has paid tribute to the beloved teenager, while friends flocked to Ms Sutherland's TikTok page to send their condolences to the family.

“God bless you sis,” Zayn wrote, alongside a heart emoji, in the comments section of her most recent video.

Ms Sutherland's cousin Finley Docherty shared a video of photos of the pair together when they were younger.

He described her as the “best cousin in the world” and said she would “stay in my heart forever.”

“I don't want to say goodbye because this means forever,” the video script read.

“Now you're in the stars, six feet has never felt so far.”

Friend Amelie said Mrs Sutherland always looked after her.

“I will never forget the times you helped me,” she wrote.

'I will love you forever. Rest in peace, my beautiful girl.'

“It will always be the most beautiful,” another friend wrote.

Meanwhile, a Grays Point Facebook page said the “entire community is shocked by the tragedy.”

It shared a link to one GoFundMe page for Ms Sutherland's family, which has already raised more than $20,000.

“We know everyone is feeling a little helpless and don't know what to say to those affected – here's a way to contribute to the beautiful Darcy's family to show your support,” the fundraiser creator wrote.

'We have received numerous requests about how we can help and we are creating this page to help the family with the necessary arrangements.

“Thank you for your love and support and coming to assist the family during this difficult time.”

Donors left messages of support for the Sutherland family.

“I am heartbroken that this beautiful girl is gone too soon,” one person wrote.

“I pray that your family may find the strength to live with their forever broken hearts and keep your memory alive. Rest beautiful girl.'

The GoFundMe link was shared by the Miranda Magpies FC football club.

“Yesterday's tragedy on the water has affected our Magpies family,” the message read.

“Our hearts and thoughts go out to the Sutherland family at this very difficult time.”

Distraught witnesses could be seen hugging and comforting each other as paramedics worked to revive Ms Sutherland on Friday.

The two 16-year-old boys driving the two ships were taken to St George Hospital for mandatory tests.

The boats have been seized for investigation and police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

NSW Premier Chris Minns has condemned a balaclava-clad neo-Nazi group who were kicked off a train on a shocking Australia Day. Scenes say their actions do not represent how Australia Day should be celebrated.

More than 70 members of the extremist group Nationalist Socialist Network were taken off the train at North Sydney station about 11.30am on Friday after the hooded men boarded at Artarmon station.

The group, led by Melbourne-based white supremacist leader Thomas Sewell, was seen wearing balaclavas and black sunglasses, while others waved Australian flags and one carried a riot shield.

They swarmed the platform as shocked passengers and families looked on before boarding the train's final carriage.

The driver stopped the train at North Sydney station, four stops away on the T1 North Sydney line, just before midday when more than 20 police officers intercepted the train.

All passengers were safely evacuated before officers detained the group of men on the train for three hours.

Six members of the group were arrested, while 55 others were fined for offensive behavior on public transport.

Mr Minns slammed the group's actions, saying this is not the way Australia Day is celebrated.

“Normal people don't celebrate Australia Day wearing a balaclava,” he said The Daily Telegraph.'

“There is absolutely no tolerance for this behavior.”

It was believed the group was trying to organize a pro-white rally as thousands of people gathered in the CBD to take part in the 'Invasion Day' protests.

The group later became involved in a tense confrontation with armed Public Order and Riot Squad officers after the group, dressed in all black clothing, was led to St Peters Park near North Sydney station just before 3pm.

Police read a departure order to the group before Sewell, a convicted criminal, delivered a bizarre racist rant after addressing heavily armed officers about what the extremist group stood for.

“What we represent are white Australians who will not be mollified by homosexuals, communists and Jews…” he said.

“We stand strong as white Australians and celebrate our National Day.”

Sewell, who was jailed for attacking a group of hikers in Victoria in 2021, told the newspaper that his white supremacist group should not have been arrested.

He said they planned to stage a protest because they believed Australia Day was being “destroyed” by “anti-white communists”.

Sewell then continued to insult police during his tirade, telling them to go get a “trade” instead of being part of an oppressive state that he claimed was designed to make “anti-white people to serve'. [and] anti-Australian terrorists'.

The investigation into yesterday's incident is ongoing and charges are expected to be filed.

Police will maintain a strong presence throughout the long weekend as thousands braved temperatures of almost 40 degrees on Friday to mark the holiday.

Millions of people across the country celebrated, commemorated or protested on January 26, a day that marks the arrival of the First Fleet and the raising of the Union Jack flag at Sydney Cove by Captain Arthur Phillip in 1788.

Others were seen cooling off on Sydney beaches, while some spent the day with friends and family at the harbour.

Australians across the country have embraced scorching temperatures to celebrate Australia Day in style – while others marched in crowded rallies on Invasion Day.

Despite intensifying debate over keeping January 26 as our national holiday, partygoers flocked to beaches on Friday to take advantage of the Australian sun, salt and surf.

Partygoers in Sydney and the Gold Coast were seen relaxing with friends on boats, in parks and on the beach in celebration of what makes Australia The Lucky Country.

Despite major supermarket chain Woolworths declaring it would not be selling Australia Day merchandise this year, many were still decked out in Australian glamor bikinis, bucket hats and temporary tattoos.

The national holiday wrapped up Sydney with Australia Day Live at the Sydney Opera House, a concert with live music performances and a dazzling fireworks display.

Meanwhile, thousands of people joined rallies on Invasion Day in the first Australia Day protests since the failed Voice to Parliament referendum.

Parliament House has been placed on lockdown after the building was overrun by groups protesting Australia Day and the conflict in the Middle East.

As many as 600 First Nations and pro-Palestinian activists marched to the front door of the building in Canberra on Friday.

Police were forced to seal the entrance to Parliament House, with visitors inside diverted to leave the basement.

Chants of 'F**k Australia' and 'F**k Israel' could be heard as hundreds of protesters marched through the city on Invasion Day.

The group eventually moved to the Aboriginal Tent Embassy to continue their demonstrations.
