Celine Dion Thanks to Celine Dion/Instagram

Celine Dion celebrated International Stiff Person Syndrome Day amid her battle with the disorder by sharing a rare photo of her children.

“Today the world recognizes International SPS Awareness Day,” 55-year-old Dion wrote via Instagram on Friday, March 15, next to a photo of the singer with her three sons. “As many of you know, I was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) in the fall of 2022. Trying to overcome this autoimmune disease has been one of the most difficult experiences of my life, but I remain determined to one day get back on stage and live as normal a life as possible.

She continued: “I am extremely grateful for the love and support of my children, family, team and all of you! I want to send my encouragement and support to everyone around the world affected by SPS. I want you to know that you can do it! We can do it!” (SPS is a rare neurological disorder that causes spasms, affecting the muscles and vocal cords.)

Alongside the caption was a rare photo of Dion and her three sons – René-Charles Angélil, 23, and twins Nelson and Eddy, 13 – which she shared with her late husband Rene Angelilwho passed away in 2016.

In December 2022, Dion shared that health issues had caused her to postpone several upcoming performances. “I have always been an open book and before I was not ready to say anything, but now I am ready,” Dion said in an emotional video at the time. “I have been dealing with issues with my health for a long time and it has been very difficult for me to face these challenges and talk about everything I have been through.”

Despite this, Dion plans to return to the stage. “Céline is a fighter. She doesn’t have as much control over her muscles as she used to, but she is working with doctors and physiotherapists to get better,” a source said exclusively. We weekly in December 2023. “Céline has taken time to focus on her health, but plans to return to the stage as soon as her medical team has cleared her.”

The singer has stepped away from the spotlight since her diagnosis as she takes time to heal. That didn’t stop her from making a surprise appearance at the 2024 Grammy Awards in February, when she took the stage to present the Album of the Year award to Taylor Swift.

“She has her good days and bad days,” an insider exclusively revealed We weekly last month, adding that Dion has been doing “a lot of physical therapy and voice exercises” since her diagnosis. A second source inquired Us that Dion’s diagnosis “has given her strength and changed her way of thinking.”

The My Heart Will Go On singer, 55 – who was recently spotted on a rare outing in New York earlier this month – kept a smile on her face as she wrapped her arms around twins Eddy and Nelson, 13, while the eldest son Rene-Charles Angelil , 23, sat in the front seat.

The singer shares her three boys with late husband and music producer Rene Angelil – who passed away in 2016 after a battle with throat cancer.

In the caption of the photo, Celine wrote to her 6.4 million followers: “Today the world recognizes International SPS Awareness Day.”

“As many of you know, I was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) in the fall of 2022,” she continued.

‘Trying to overcome this autoimmune disease has been one of the most difficult experiences of my life, but I remain determined to one day get back on stage and live as normal a life as possible.’

The star then said, “I am deeply grateful for the love and support of my children, family, team and all of you!”

‘I would like to send my encouragement and support to everyone around the world affected by SPS. I want you to know that you can do it! We can do it! Love Celine xx…’, Dion concluded.

Social media users took to the comments section to share their support for the star, with one fan typing ‘I love you Celine’ followed by a white heart emoji.

Perez Hilton wrote: “You are so loved!!” while another added: ‘You can do it ❤ your old soul and your voice are here to heal all over the world.’

In December 2022, Celine revealed in an emotional video that she had been diagnosed with the rare neurological disease.

Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) is a degenerative condition that causes muscles to become uncontrollably tense and spastic. Ultimately, it leaves patients resembling “human statues” as the body gradually locks up, leaving people unable to walk or talk.

There is no cure for SPS, but there are steps that can be taken to slow the symptoms – something Celine revealed she is researching.

After battling her illness behind the scenes, Celine made her first public appearance in almost three years last November when she attended an ice hockey match with her three sons.

In the footage posted online, Celine appeared cheerful as she greeted players and fans in the changing rooms after the match.

Last month in February, the singer made a surprise appearance at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards to present Album of the Year to Taylor Swift.

A source said this at the time Page six that Dion wanted to show the stiff person syndrome ‘is not a death sentence.’

She ‘waved away’ Swift and ignored her as she accepted the Grammy award – with the pair even posing together backstage at the ceremony.

“I don’t think Celine cared and they chatted backstage afterwards. But Celine was just friendly and happy to be there. Of course, the right thing would have been for Taylor to acknowledge her, like Adele did years ago.”

‘She wanted to show everyone that she is doing well. She has good days and bad days. It is a painful disease, but it is not a death sentence,” the source told the newspaper.

“She’s clearly capable of doing things and she wanted to show everyone that she’s back. She looked fantastic. The hope is that she can perform.”

Earlier this month, Celine was spotted on a rare outing in New York and remained positive as she gave a thumbs up to those around her.

She made another rare public appearance at the Edmonton Oilers hockey game in Las Vegas amid her battle with the disease.

In a video uploaded to the team’s main Instagram page, she was seen having a good time with the players in a locker room – and at one point Dion humorously imitated being a player.

One of the team’s players, left winger Zach Hyman, stood next to the singer and also laughed during the light-hearted and memorable interaction.

Earlier this week on Monday, Celine was spotted in Boston with her twin sons and others at a restaurant called Scampo, located in the Liberty Hotel.

A restaurant owner recently said this People“Everyone said she looked like a million bucks. Everyone said she looked beautiful.’

Speaking about her diagnosis in December 2022, Celine said: ‘Unfortunately these spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing problems when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal chords to sing like I am. used to.’

However, the mother of three explained that she has “an amazing team of doctors working alongside me to help me get better, and my precious children supporting and helping me.”

'She wanted to show everyone that she is doing well. She has good days and bad days… it is a painful disease, but it is not a death sentence,” the source told the newspaper.

‘All I know is to sing. It’s what I’ve done all my life and it’s what I love to do,” she added emotionally. ‘I miss you very much. I miss seeing you all on stage performing in front of you….”

Dion said she “did everything she could to recover.” I would like to thank you so much for your wishes, love and support on my social media. This means a lot to me.’

In late December last year, a source told Us Weekly that Celine “doesn’t have as much control over her muscles as she used to, but she is working with doctors and physical therapists to get better.”

In December, Dion’s sister Claudette said the music artist no longer has “control over her muscles.”

A year after the My Heart Will Go On hitmaker had to cancel her world tour, her sibling, 74, suggested it could be a while before Celine returns to the stage.

Celine’s condition, which is progressive and incurable, causes the body to attack its own nerve cells, which seriously affects mobility.

‘She works hard, but she has no control over her muscles. What breaks my heart is that she has always been disciplined,” Claudette told 7 Jours.

‘She has always worked hard. Our mother always told her, ‘You’re going to do well, you’re going to do well,'” Dion’s sibling added.

She continued: “It is true that in our dreams as well as in hers, the goal is to return to the stage. In what capacity? Don’t know.’

Although research into the condition is ongoing, its rarity means progress has been slow.

Claudette added, “The vocal cords are muscles, and the heart is a muscle too. This is what’s coming for me. Because it is one case in a million, scientists have not done much research into it [doesn’t] affects so many people.’

Celine’s charity, Fondation Maman Dion, has been inundated with messages of support for the star.

Claudette said: ‘Some people have lost hope because it is a disease that is not well known. If you only knew how many calls the Foundation gets about Celine! People tell us they love her and are praying for her. She gets so many messages, presents and blessed crucifixes.”

Claudette previously revealed that despite working with “the best researchers in the field,” her sister has seen little improvement in her health.

She told Le Journal de Montreal: “We can’t find any medicine that works, but having hope is important.”

In October, Claudette said Celine was not yet dependent on a wheelchair to get around and was still planning to perform again.

“Taylor Swift didn't even hug or acknowledge Celine Dion. I can't stand it,” one angry fan wrote on social media afterwards.

Taylor Swift completely ignored Celine Dion like she was a trophy model presenter, #GRAMMYS was wild. She has won this three times and is usually such a pro. But to ignore an icon, who has to deal with so much? Yes.'

“As someone who has defended Taylor, I cannot defend this. No acknowledgment whatsoever from Celine,” another added.

“Taylor Swift will never EVER settle for ignoring Celine Dion at the Grammys.”

“Taylor Swift doesn't recognize Celine Dion, a legend, at the Grammys, but drags Lana onto that stage? Smh,” someone else wrote, referring to Lana Del Rey who was on stage.

“Taylor doesn't acknowledge Celine and then takes the Grammy from her… PRISON.”

Dion was visibly emotional as she walked on stage with the support of eldest son Rene-Charles Angelil, 23, to cheers and a standing ovation and to present Album of the Year.

She said, “Thank you all! I love you right back. You look beautiful. When I say I'm happy to be here, I really mean it from my heart.'

In welke hoedanigheid?

Mijn God.'

Taylor Swift keeps her side of the street clean when it counts Celine Dion.

The women caused a stir after they were captured backstage in a warm embrace at the 2024 Grammy Awards on Sunday, February 4. The moment took place after Dion presented Swift with the Album of the Year award for her 2022 record. Midnights.

In the sweet moment, Swift, 34, pulled Dion, 55, in for a hug and blushed as the “My Heart Will Go On” singer smiled at the camera.

The adorable embrace came just minutes after fans took to social media to question the pair's onstage exchange before Swift's acceptance speech. As the pop star reached the stage, she laughed and smiled with her staff, but apparently passed Dion as she picked up her award and addressed the crowd.

Music's hottest brought their fashion A-game to the 2024 Grammys. Industry icons and buzzy newcomers rocked the red carpet on Sunday, February 4, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. We're talking flowing dresses, naked dresses, statement suits and out of this world hair and glamour. Shoes were also memorable, with favorite stars strutting their stuff […]

“Taylor Swift completely ignores Celine Dion, as well as the disrespect even Celine had… Que?” one person wrote via

Others, however, knew that the moment was likely due to Swift being overwhelmed by receiving the biggest honor of the night.

“This is really sweet,” someone said of Swift and Dion's backstage hug. “It is an honor that THE Celine Dion is the one to present you with AOTY.” Another added: “Ladies and gentlemen, these are two legends of the music world, a valuable common framework.”

“My Roman Empire,” shouted a third.

Dion's appearance at the 66th annual awards ceremony was a surprise, as she was not initially listed as a presenter. The legendary singer revealed in December 2022 that she is struggling with stiff person syndrome.

“I have been dealing with issues with my health for a long time and it has been very difficult for me to face these challenges and talk about everything I have been through,” she told her fans via an Instagram video on at the time, saying the “very rare neurological condition” caused her to have “cramps” and affected her vocal cords and other muscles.

“I work hard every day with my sports medicine doctor to build my strength and my ability to perform again, but I have to admit it has been a struggle,” she said.

Sunday's awards ceremony marks the second time Dion has been spotted recently. She and her three children, son René-Charles, 23, and twins Nelson and Eddy, 13, went to watch the Vegas Golden Knights take on the Montreal Canadiens in October 2023. (Dion shared her three children with her late husband René Angelilwho died of throat cancer in January 2016 at the age of 73.)

Two months later, Dion's sister, Claudette Dion, provided an update on her condition. “She works hard, but she has no control over her muscles,” Claudette told the Canadian magazine 7 Days in an interview published in December 2023. “What hurts me is that she has always been disciplined. She has always worked hard. My mom always told her, 'You're going to do this right, you're going to do this right.'”

Although Dion has been nominated for 16 Grammys throughout her career and took home five wins, Swift made history on Sunday as the first person to receive AOTY four times. The 'Anti-Hero' singer, who was nominated for a total of six awards this year, also took home best pop vocal album for Midnights.

“I'd love to tell you that this is the best moment of my life, but I feel so happy when I write a song, or crack the code to a song I love, or when I get shot down offering a music video or when I'm practicing with my band or rehearsing with my dancers or getting ready to fly to Tokyo to perform,” Swift said during her AOTY acceptance speech. “For me, the reward is the work.”

Dion announced at the time that she would postpone her Courage World Tour until spring 2024 due to her health. The tour was officially canceled in May.

“I’m so sorry to disappoint you all again. I’m working very hard to regain my strength, but touring can be very difficult, even when you’re 100[percent]”, Dion wrote via Instagram. “It’s not fair to you to keep postponing the shows, and even though it breaks my heart, it’s best that we cancel everything now until I’m actually ready to get back on stage. I want you all to know: I’m not giving up… and I can’t wait to see you again!”

A second source says Us that the Grammy winner “will not give up the fight” against her stiffness syndrome. “She remains positive and upbeat and does her physical therapy every day,” the insider added. “Somehow being back on stage is her constant dream, even though she can no longer sing; she just wants to see those beaming faces.

Celine Dion‘s battle against stiff person syndrome continues to worsen, but her sister, Claudette Dionsays the singer is still fighting.

“She works hard, but she has no control over her muscles,” Claudette, 75, told the Canadian magazine 7 Days in an interview published on December 12. “What hurts me is that she has always been disciplined. She has always worked hard. My mom always told her, ‘You’re going to do this right, you’re going to do this right.’”

Claudette, who is a musician herself, noted that the “dream” for both Céline and her family is to somehow “return her to the stage.” “In what state? “I don’t know,” Claudette admitted. “The vocal cords are muscles, and the heart is also a muscle. This is what [gets to] me. Because it’s one in millions of cases, scientists haven’t done as much research because it doesn’t affect that many people.”

Céline’s sister noted that “some have lost hope because [it] is a disease that is not known.” However, Claudette revealed that the family receives “a lot of calls” from fans who “want to hear from Céline” and wish her well.

“People tell us they love her and are praying for her. She receives so many messages, gifts and blessed crucifixes,” says Claudette.

Céline first discussed her health issues in December 2022, announcing that she had to postpone her upcoming shows due to her battle with stiff person syndrome.

“I’m sorry it took me so long to contact you,” she said in an emotional video on social media. “I miss you all so much and I can’t wait to talk to you on stage in person. As you know, I have always been an open book and before I was not ready to say anything, but now I am ready.

The “My Heart Will Go On” singer explained: “I have been dealing with issues with my health for a long time and it has been very difficult for me to face these challenges and talk about everything I have experienced. ”

Céline revealed that the “very rare neurological condition” is responsible for the spasms she was experiencing. “I work hard every day with my sports medicine doctor to rebuild my strength and my ability to perform again, but I have to admit it has been a struggle,” she added, noting that the disease has damaged her vocal cords and affected other muscles. .

A source said this exclusively We weekly at the time, Céline is leaning on her three sons, René-Charles, 22, and twins Nelson and Eddy, 13, for support. (The singer shared her boys with late husband René Angelil, who died in January 2016 at age 73 of throat cancer.)

“Her children have been her rock… the twins are very mature for their age and René-Charles comes over all the time and adores his mother,” the insider said.

Following her health announcement, Céline has remained out of the public eye, aside from a handful of outings. In October, she made a rare appearance with her sons at the Vegas Golden Knights hockey game against the Montreal Canadiens.

The family visited the Canadiens players before the game and Céline was apparently in good spirits. She offered them a pep talk and told the athletes, “Just stay healthy, stay strong… Do what you do best,” according to a social media video posted by the team.
