LUKE Yates certainly hasn’t been kicking his feet up and dragging his feet during his enforced absence – the 6am classes at a CrossFit center proved that.

But while he may have earned a breather this offseason, with a three-match suspension ruling him out of the start of the season, he revealed he kept the pedal to the metal when he could easily have done nothing.

And CrossFit participants at his adopted Saddleworth had a guest next to them, while most people were still in bed.

“I left with the wife, but I wanted to stay here and train a little bit,” Yates said.

“My wife goes to a CrossFit gym, Saddleworth CrossFit, and I would go there with her early in the morning for 6am classes.

“They do conditioning sessions, so I joined in. When they did CrossFit, I only did weights.

“It’s an important season for us. We didn’t have a good season last year and we need to improve, but we have the right group. There were some really positive things that came out of training.”

New York City public schools will hold remote classes Tuesday, Mayor Eric Adams announced on social media, as the metro area prepares for what could be the biggest snowfall in more than two years.

A winter storm is likely to blanket parts of the Northeast Monday through Tuesday, bringing up to two inches of snow per hour in some areas. Five to eight inches are expected in New York City and Long Island, which could significantly disrupt morning commutes.

Since schools closed and moved to remote classes in the early days of the coronavirus pandemic, many districts, including New York — the nation's largest — have planned to abandon the tradition of canceling classes in response to heavy snowfall. So on Tuesday, more than 900,000 city students will switch to virtual learning in the system's first experiment with a remote snow day since schools fully reopened.

“Our kids need to learn,” Mayor Adams said at a news conference Monday when asked about students wanting the day off. “They fell behind. We need to catch up. That's what we need to focus on.”

The decision to hold classes online was announced just after 10 a.m. on Monday, just hours before snow was expected to fall in the city. Mayor Adams previously faced intense criticism for slow communication in the lead-up to bad weather.

During a heavy rainstorm in September, the government's decision to keep schools open came under fire after about 150 schools were flooded and one was evacuated. Many students arrived at their first period soaking wet and were rushed to the upper floors to avoid flooding. At the time, Mayor Adams defended the decision to keep schools open.

The school system previously held remote classes for some older students in June when smoke from wildfires worsened air quality. But the majority of children would already be free.

On Tuesday, the snow will provide a key test of the system's readiness for virtual learning in the wake of the pandemic.

The school's chancellor, David C. Banks, said Monday that he believes the system is “more than prepared” for the transition. New Delhi: The Assam government on Wednesday proposed to merge the state's class 10 and 12 boards into a single entity to manage secondary education. The state government has introduced the Assam State School Education Board Bill, 2024, in the Assembly for creating a new body to monitor the education system up to Class 12 in the state.

As per the bill, the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) and the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) will be merged to create a new body: Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB). The bill has been brought to “regulate, control and develop secondary education in the State of Assam by merging the existing Board of Secondary Education, Assam and Assam Higher Secondary Education Council,” the preamble of the legislation said.

The ASSEB will be led by a chairman, to be appointed by the government. Under him, an individual vice-chairman will look after each division and he or she will be nominated by the government. Following an improvement in weather conditions in the national capital, the Education Department has directed all government, government-aided and private schools to resume physical classes at their usual timings from today, February 6, 2024.

Schools in Delhi will resume their physical classes according to their regular times from Tuesday, February 6, 2024. Following improvement in weather conditions in the national capital, the Education Department has directed all government, government-aided and private schools to resume physical classes at their usual timings from today, February 6, 2024. “In view of the improved weather conditions in Delhi, all government, government-aided and recognized private schools of Delhi will resume their normal timings from 06.02.2024 (Tuesday),” reads an order from the Delhi Education Directorate.

School closure in Punjab: Classes up to standard 5 will remain closed till January 20

New Delhi: With cold wave conditions intensifying in northern India, the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government has decided to suspend all classes up to Class 5 in all schools till January 20. Classes for standard 6 to 12 are held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains made the announcement on , government aided and private schools up to class 10 till January 14.

However, schools were open for grades 11 and 12.

Cold wave intensifies in Punjab and Haryana

On Sunday, cold wave conditions tightened their grip in Punjab and Haryana, with minimum temperatures in both states falling further below normal limits. Ballowal Saunkhri in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district of Punjab recorded zero degrees Celsius, according to a report from the meteorological department here.

A thick blanket of fog enveloped several places in Punjab and Haryana and minimum temperatures two to four degrees below normal were recorded at several places in the two states.

Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states, also reeled under severe cold conditions and recorded a low of 3.2 degrees Celsius, which was 3.7 degrees below normal. In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a low temperature of 4.1 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperatures in Patiala and Ludhiana were 3.4 and 2.5 degrees Celsius respectively.

Pathankot, Bathinda, Faridkot and Gurdaspur recorded minimum temperatures of 6.2, 4.2, 4 and 4.5 degrees Celsius respectively.

Jaipur: The biting cold wave sweeping across India has prompted authorities to extend the winter holidays in schools. In view of the severe cold, the winter vacation of children of classes 1 to 8 in Jaipur and Sikar districts of Rajasthan has been extended till January 13. In Jaipur, January 14 is a Sunday and January 15 is a holiday for Makar. Sankranti, schools in the district will resume on January 16. However, in Sikar, schools will reopen on January 15. The minimum temperature in Jaipur has reached below 5 degrees Celsius.

Earlier on Thursday, the district administration extended the winter vacation of students of classes 1 to 8 by eight days. Issuing an order in this regard, Jaipur District Collector Prakash Chandra Rajpurohit said the weather will fluctuate continuously in the coming week, news agency IANS reported.

Taking into account the changing weather conditions, the winter holiday period will be extended until January 13. However, during this period the pre-planned exams remain the same. Strict action will be taken against schools that do not adhere to these government rules.

Earlier, the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) had officially announced the winter vacation schedule for 2023. According to the announcement on X (formerly Twitter), winter holidays for all schools would start from December 25, 2023.
