This is the hilarious moment a cheeky cow objected not once but twice during a beaming couple’s wedding ceremony.

When Harry and Amy Millard pictured their beautiful summer wedding at Crowcombe Court in Somerset, they were probably expecting a smooth day.

No matter how the officiant started asking the merry wedding party if they had any objections, a cheeky cow decided to steal the newlyweds’ attention.

Shuffling slowly past the guests, dressed in outfits of varying shades of green with notes of pastel pink, the cow boastfully let out an echoing moo as the official was mid-sentence.

“In order to continue, I must now ask if anyone is here…” the official said, before letting go of the bold farm animal.

Harry and Amy Millard (pictured) were probably expecting a smooth day before a cheeky cow interrupted their picturesque summer wedding

The crowd let out thunderous laughter as Harry looked at his bride and joked, “I knew this was going to happen.”

When the official jokingly “noticed” the animal’s statement and the chuckles began to die down, she started to keep going – but not for long.

Before the cow let out another loud interruption, the officer managed to say, “If anyone here knows of any legal impediment…”

As the cow’s lowing echoed across the field, so did the laughter of the guests and the bride and groom.

This time, however, the official did not let the cow (or the laughter) stop him from finally asking the non-bovine attendees if they had any objections.

Seeing the positive side of the farm animal’s fantastic comedy, the audience, the couple and the official shared a quick chuckle before quickly moving on.

Apart from that, the couple, who have been together for more than nine years, had a beautiful celebration at the Grade II listed mansion.

After making their relationship official in December 2015 in Harry’s red Citreon C2, the groom made numerous heartfelt promises to his blushing bride in their vows.

‘I promise to give you my love and friendship, to be there for you when you need me most and to laugh, cry and confide in you.

Despite the rude bovine guest, the guests, both bride and groom, saw the funny side of the brazen wedding crasher's objections.

The cow interrupted not just once, but TWICE, as the official tried to ask the human guests if they objected to the young couple's union.

He added lovingly, “I share everything I have with you.”

The bride’s father tearfully shared his speech, expressing his love and admiration for his daughter and her new husband.

‘I’d like to tell you something about Amy. She has grown into a beautiful, intelligent young lady,” he said.

Noting his daughter’s ambition and how she constantly strives to achieve all her goals, he turned his attention to his new ‘son’.

‘We couldn’t ask for a nicer man for our daughter, and [are] fortunate that he has a son who is kind and thoughtful and will do his utmost to help everyone,” he said through tears.

But not all disruptive wedding guests are as funny as the comical cow, who worms her way into the newlyweds’ special day.

One bride was left feeling embarrassed and red when her mother-to-be started berating her at the altar after she joked about her fiancé’s “flaws” during a speech.

In a now-deleted TikTok video originally posted by the bride’s sister in 2020, the groom’s mother can be heard shouting, “You don’t have to say my son has flaws.”

The bride’s sister, Sarah Ragsdale of San Jose, California, wrote in the caption, “My sister’s wedding a few years ago.

“Her MIL always hated her. She’s just one of those MILs who feels like my sister is taking her son away.”

The Carter family has been beset by further tragedy in recent months with the shock death of Nick Carter‘s younger sister Bobbie Jean at just 41 in December 2023.

BJ’s passing marks the third Carter sibling death by overdose in 11 years – following the heartbreaking losses of Leslie aged 25 in 2012 and Aaron in 2022 aged 34.

The Carters – comprised of five children with two surviving siblings Nick, 44, and Angel, 36 – and parents Bob Carter, who died aged 65 in 2017 and Jane Schneck, 65, was first thrust into the spotlight when Nick shot to fame aged 13 in the Backstreet Boys.

Aaron followed in his brother’s footsteps and became a child star when his singing career was launched before he turned 10 years old – with his parents later embroiled in an acrimonious divorce and fight over his multimillion dollar fortune which tore the family apart.

The siblings’ upbringing and fractious dynamic was documented in 2006 E! reality show, House of Carters, which showed physical fights between Nick and Aaron, BJ’s problem with alcohol and the family going to therapy to heal their wounds as they lived together for two months in LA.

As the Carter family weathers the loss of another loved one, DailyMail.com looks back at House of Carters’ most shocking moments…

NICK FIGHTS AARON OVER TAKING EX PARIS HILTON OUT TO SPITE HIM

Nick and Aaron had a monumental physical fight which first erupted when the incensed I Want It That Way singer told his younger brother to stop recording music in the early hours of the morning.

Aaron shouted: ‘The way you talk to me, it’s like I’m your little kid dude!’ as Nick accused him of showing him ‘no respect’ by playing music loudly after midnight.

Nick said: ‘Let me tell you something real quick – you’re going to turn the music down and respect me right’ while putting his face extremely close to Aaron’s.

Aaron called out: ‘Don’t spit in my face, don’t spit in my face! I‘m sick of you doing this to me, stop it!’ as Nick pushed his brother into a bathroom and slammed the door – while his worried siblings rushed to intervene.

Aaron was heard saying: ‘Stop it, what are you doing?’ before the fight was broken up by production crew.

A tearful Aaron shouted: ‘I walk away from you every time you fight with me, run away from you! You are not a good person and everybody sees it Nick!’

Nick then accused his brother of ‘coming at him for the first time’ and ‘pushing his head against the door’ – leading him to bite his sibling.

Nick then claimed Aaron had taken his ex Paris Hilton – who he dated from January  to July 2004 – out the day after their break-up to spite him.

He said: ‘Everybody wants to know the truth, why I don’t trust my brother, why he doesn’t respect me… I’m gonna tell you why. Because when I broke up with Paris this guy takes her out and tries…

‘The next day I find his phone in the car and who is it –  it’s his phone taking a picture of her her smiling…

‘I told him it’s over and he goes out with her on a date!’

Aaron responded: ‘You belittle everybody Nick… it’s your personality, your attitude and the way you treat mom…’

A slurring BJ says: ‘You’re making me go to bed, Nick I’m not.’

BJ is then seen accusing her sisters of being ‘very violent’ after she walks into a bedroom unannounced  and declares she is ‘leaving.’

Nick stops her and says: ‘I never said you were  drunk, I just said you had drunk too much, there’s a difference between the two. Maybe if you were in a stronger state of mind.

BJ responds: ‘I’ll never be in a stronger state of mind until people stop insulting me!’

A visit from the sibling’s father Bob and his wife Ginger leaves Aaron over the moon – but the mood quickly turns when the patriarch gives Aaron a stern talking-to over mom Jane.

Jane – who was battling health issues – had been in contact over payment of her medical bills.

Aaron had claimed he made more than $200million before he even turned 18 years old.

He alleged his parents mishandled his money and neglected his finances.

‘There was a lot of neglect on my parents’ part,’ he said in 2016. ‘They didn’t do a lot of things right.’

Aaron owed $4million in tax liens when he turned 18. He was only given $2million when he became an adult, despite the Coogan law – which is designed to safeguard a portion of child performers’ earnings – stating he should have been given about $20million.

Owing twice as much money as he had, he filed for bankruptcy.

‘I was like, “I don’t want to do it because it’s embarrassing”, and people are going to be like, “Aaron Carter’s broke”, and all this stuff,’ Aaron said.

Bobbie Jean Carter died from a fentanyl and methamphetamine overdose aged just 41 in December 2023 (pictured 2006)

Bobbie Jean Carter died from a fentanyl and methamphetamine overdose aged just 41 in December 2023 (pictured 2006)

Bobbie Jean Carter died from a fentanyl and methamphetamine overdose aged just 41 in December 2023.

First responders had found Bobbie Jean unresponsive in the bathroom of her Tampa, Florida home on the morning of December 23 and rushed her to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead.

Bobbie Jean – who was a mother of one daughter, Bella, eight – was on probation for cocaine possession when she died according to law enforcement –  but her roommates had told them that she had not used any narcotics since her prison release.

Bobbie Jean’s official cause of death is intoxication by the combined effects of fentanyl and methamphetamine according to the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner in Florida, per TMZ.

Her death has been ruled accidental.

The Medical Examiner’s report states Bobbie’s roommate last had contact with her at 6:30 AM on December 23 but around 7 AM, the roommate found Bobbie  unresponsive on the bathroom floor and called 911.

First responders tried life-saving measures on Bobbie before she was transported to a Tampa hospital, where, at 8:02 AM, she was pronounced dead.

Bobbie Jean — or BJ, as she was known to her family — is the third Carter sibling to meet an early death. Aaron Carter passed away on November 5, 2022, at the age of 34, while a decade earlier, in 2012, Leslie Carter died at the age of 25. Both deaths were caused by overdoses.

It takes just a small dose of fentanyl to cause an overdose. Just two milligrams – the equivalent of five grains of salt – is enough to cause death.

Bobbie Jean was laid to rest in a city outside of Tampa during a ‘small, private ceremony’ attended by family and friends last month.

Nick broke his silence over the death of Bobbie Jean – writing that he is ‘completely heartbroken’ in emotional tribute on Instagram.

‘It may take a lifetime to fully process the loss my family has endured over the years – most recently, with the sudden passing of our sister Bobbie Jean,’ the Backstreet Boys star wrote on Thursday.

He also shared a vintage throwback picture of himself and with Bobbie Jean playing as children.

Nick’s post followed the report that Bobbie Jean’s daughter Bella, eight, is in the custody of her grandmother, Schneck, 64.

In a statement to TMZ the grieving mother spoke about her devastating loss.

In June, Bobbie Jean was arrested on a shoplifting charge for an incident at Hobby Lobby and was put on a suicide watch after threatening to kill herself. Investigators discovered she was in possession of fentanyl at the time

In June, Bobbie Jean was arrested on a shoplifting charge for an incident at Hobby Lobby and was put on a suicide watch after threatening to kill herself. Investigators discovered she was in possession of fentanyl at the time

‘I am in shock from learning of the sudden death of my daughter, Bobbie Jean; and I will need time to process the terrible reality of this happening for the third time,’ she began.

‘When I am able to think clearly, I’ll release a fuller statement; but until then I would request to be left to grieve in private.’

She added: ‘However deeply a parent feels the loss of a child, the suffering of a young child at the loss of a parent must be much greater.’

‘So, I would ask the sympathetic to say a prayer for my precious eight year old granddaughter Bella, who previously lost her father and is now also left without her mother.’

Aaron died from an accidental drowning at his home in Lancaster, California, caused after his inhaling difluoroethane and taking alprazolam, the generic form of brand-name Xanax. He was 34.

Leslie died of a drug overdose at age 25 in 2012.

In June, Bobbie Jean was arrested on a shoplifting charge for an incident at Hobby Lobby and was put on a suicide watch after threatening to kill herself.

Investigators discovered she was in possession of fentanyl at the time.

Angel made a lengthy statement on Instagram Sunday, promising to prevent the trauma that haunted her siblings from hurting the next generation.

‘This starts with our children, and creating healthy conversation within the home. The generational dysfunction stops now.’ she wrote Sunday.

BJP MP Anantkumar Hegde: Anantkumar Hegde, former Union minister and controversial Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Uttara Kannada constituency, said on Saturday that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her younger son and senior Congress leader Sanjay Gandhi were cursed with cow slaughter. “Indira Gandhi was shot dead on Gopasthami day, due to the curse by respected ascetic Karpatri Maharaj during a significant agitation for ban on cow slaughter,” he said while attending a program in Kumta, adding that when Indira Gandhi was Prime Minister, there was great unrest over the ban on cow slaughter.

“When Indira Gandhi was Prime Minister at the time, there was great unrest over the ban on cow slaughter. Dozens of saints died in the movement and murders of many saints took place and cows were slaughtered in the presence of Indira Gandhi. Hundreds of cows were also shot dead. The great ascetic Karpatri Maharaj cursed Indira Gandhi,” he said.

“He cursed that your clan would be destroyed on Gopasthami day itself. Sanjay Gandhi died in a plane crash at Gopashtami, and Indira Gandhi was shot dead at Gopasthami,” he added.

On the sensitive and controversial mandir-masjid issue, the BJP MP said the origin of many mosques in India is questionable as he linked the fate of Bhatkal's golden village to the destruction of the Babri Masjid. Hegde said that like the Babri Masjid Bhatkal Mosque would be demolished.

“Now that Babri Masjid has been destroyed, the golden village of Bhatkal will also soon join the line. The mosque of Bhatkal will also be demolished, just like Babri Masjid. This is the decision of the Hindu society, not the decision of Ananthkumar Hegade ,” he said.

“Consider it a threat if you will. There is also a mosque in CP Bazaar of Sirasi. This used to be the Vijaya Vitthal Temple. Our opponent is not the Congress but the mentality of some people,” he asserted.

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah slammed the BJP MP for his controversial comments and said the language used by the latter reflects his culture.

“The language used by Uttara Kannada MP Anantakumar Hegde for political purposes reflects his culture. Is it possible to expect a better culture from Anant Kumar Hegde, who said he would change the Constitution when he was a central minister? Siddaramaiah said in a post on X.

Dear Santa, I’ve been so good this year. Could you please bring me a miniature cow? I promise to take excellent care of it. Please, please, please!

Although it may sound ridiculous, miniature cows have become a sought-after Christmas gift in recent years.

“I just picked one up this morning,” Allie Sine, a rancher in Wright City, Missouri, said Thursday.

The animal, a brown micro-heifer, cost $10,000 and was headed elsewhere in Missouri as a surprise Christmas gift for a three-year-old girl. It was one of more than 15 miniature cows that Ms Sine, 27, said she had sold over the festive period.

“It really gets more fun at Christmas,” she said. “Usually the woman already wants one and the man approaches.”

The popularity of mini cows can be attributed, at least in part, to TikTok, where videos of the creatures have earned millions of views. Mrs. Sine, passing by @minimooos on the platform, has 742,000 followers.

Once you watch one of her videos, it’s easy to understand why the animals have become highly sought after. Miniature cows are cute and fluffy. They look like someone pointed a shrink ray at a regular cow and shot it.

“They look like golden retriever dogs,” Ms Sine said. “You can just walk out and love them.”

Alyssa Rorah, a 30-year-old rancher from Maquoketa, Iowa, supported that.

“They run around and play with you,” said Ms. Rorah, who also has a doll TikTok account dedicated to little cows. “I get videos all the time from families where their kids are running around in the backyard and their cows are playing with the kids.”

The smallest cows, classified as microminiatures, are less than 36 centimeters tall at full maturity, while a miniature can be as tall as 42 centimeters. They are about a third the size of a standard cow and are still quite hefty. A miniature cow can range from 500 to 650 pounds, Ms. Sine said, and can live up to 20 years.

Despite their cuteness and dog-like mannerisms, they are not meant to be kept indoors.

“I’ve seen some very popular people on TikTok keeping them in their house and other things that are not realistic,” Ms Rorah said. She suggested that some people would only portray them as indoor pets on their social media accounts. “In reality,” she continued, “having your cow in your home every day is not what it looks like. I find that misleading.”

Mrs. Sine noted a morning routine video posted by a cow fluencer that showed a woman waking up and giving a kiss to the little cow in the small cage next to her bed.

“I couldn’t imagine the smell,” Ms. Sine said.

(In fairness, the cow’s owner explains in the video caption that she was filming the baby cow’s last day indoors before it went to its permanent home in the barn.)

Ms Sine said she was very picky about who could buy one of her cows, which range in price from $8,000 to $20,000. She gently removes people by asking them how many hectares of land they have and if they have any other livestock.

“We get a lot of people reaching out and saying, ‘Well, we just have a dog.’” Ms. Sine said. “To them we just say ‘No.’”

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals recommends giving pets only to people who have expressed an interest in caring for them and urges potential buyers of miniature cows to think ahead. “There are fewer facilities where they can be admitted if they do not fit the recipient’s lifestyle,” an ASPCA spokesperson said.

Still, the popularity of little cows, at least on TikTok, continues to grow.

In a recent one video, comedian Ashley Gutermuth warned people against being misled by social media’s rosy portrayal of what it means for the average suburbanite to share a home with a small cow: “You can’t have a micro cow,” says the comedian . “You can not have an indoor cow. You live in a dead end street!”

A California man was sentenced Monday to more than six years in prison for running an $8.75 million Ponzi scheme that hinged on a nonexistent plant supposed to make green energy from cow dung, federal prosecutors said.

For five years, Raymond Holcomb Brewer falsely claimed to be an engineer who ran a company that built anaerobic digestion plants, which convert manure to biogas, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of California said in a statement Monday.

Mr. Brewer, 66, of Porterville, Calif., told his investors he was building the plants and would generate millions of dollars in revenue by selling the biogas, the statement said. He told the investors they would receive two-thirds of the profits, as well as tax breaks.

“None of this was true,” Phillip A. Talbert, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of California, wrote in a memorandum of conviction. “Mr. Brewer didn’t start building a single digester. He just took his investors’ money and ran.”

Mr. Brewer, who pleaded guilty on allegations of fraud in February, it spent money on a 3,700-square-foot custom home in California, a 12-acre tract of land in Montana and new Dodge Ram pickup trucks, federal prosecutors said.

Anaerobic digesters use bacteria to break down organic material, producing a gas mainly composed of methane and carbon dioxide. New York City and other places around the world have turned to the process to deal with sewage, food scraps and agricultural waste, generating a renewable natural gas.

Mr. Brewer’s elaborate plan to pretend to preside over such a trial began in 2014, according to a federal indictment. He handled things primarily through a Wyoming company headquartered in California. The company was named CH4 Power, after the chemical formula for methane.

Mr. Brewer went to great lengths to convince his investors that his manure project was real, Mr. Talbert said. Mr. Brewer took them on tours of dairies where he said he was going to build digesters, and presented them with bogus leases he said he had made to dairy owners across California. He obtained stock photos of fermenters and sent them to investors, sometimes altering the images so that they appeared to show construction progress. He fabricated a detailed schedule for the project to show the alleged progress, court documents showed.

After receiving money from his investors, Mr. Brewer to hide it by transferring it to other bank accounts he had opened in the names of other business entities, relatives and an alias, Mr. Talbert.

Mr. Brewer’s scheme began to fail in 2019, when some of his investors found out that he was returning money received from other investors, even though they had not authorized him to use it in this way.

The investors of Mr. Brewer received multiple civil judgments against him that year, Mr. Talbert. Mr. Brewer responded by closing CH4 Power, transferring his remaining assets to his wife’s name, obtaining a fraudulent business loan using stolen investor money and fleeing to Montana, where he lived part-time, according to the indictment.

Even then he continued to engage in fraud, claiming to build up more manure processing through a new company he set up with an alias, Mr Talbert said.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Mr. Brewer in Montana in 2020 and held him on 24 counts, including wire fraud, money laundering and aggravated identity theft.

But Mr. Brewer continued to lie, telling authorities that they had the wrong man and that he was a Navy veteran who had once saved several soldiers from a fire by blocking the flames with his body, Mr. Talbert wrote in the memorandum of the conviction. . Mr. Brewer has since admitted that these lies were designed to curry favor with law enforcement, Mr. Talbert said.

“He is a fraud through and through,” wrote Mr. Talbert, “and should be punished harshly to be both specific and generally deterrent.”

Mr. Brewer was sentenced to six years and nine months in prison for the fraud scheme and he was ordered to pay $8.75 million in restitution to the investors who fell victim, Mr. Talbert said.

Woman reveals how she made a DIY swimming pool for just £300 from a recycled cow bath – while hitting back at trolls who say it looks like a ‘dog bath’

A woman has revealed how she made a DIY swimming pool in her garden from a recycled cow bath for just £300 – despite trolls claiming it looks like a ‘dog bath’.

Zoe Hellewell, 34, from London, took to her TikTok @zoelondondj to show off its heated mini pool earlier this month.

The social media star – who works as a DJ – revealed she had “zero regrets” while enjoying the underground pool.

In addition to her DIY pool, Zoe has made her own chic sitting area out of a decking.

Her video — which has been viewed more than 50,000 times — was captioned, “No regrets at all. this too is a recycled cow tank, it has a lid, it’s been cleaned with pool cleaner like any pool, it costs £300 and it’s warmed up.’

The clip read: “If I’m told it’s a ‘bad idea’ to install a swimming pool in my garden in the UK then there’s a heat wave.”

In her video, Zoe showed off her beautiful garden – complete with modern decking, a corner coach and a stylish parasol.

Later, the bikini-donning DJ joined the pool with a trending social media audio that says, “I’m José Mourinho.”

Many rushed to the comments to leave their own thoughts – some wondering how she did it.

One person gushed, “This is unbelievable. How do you clean it? Take notes.’

In response, Zoe said, ‘We use the same cleaning chemicals as a normal pool and regularly test it with pool test strips to make sure it’s clean!

“Because it’s small, we also deflate it and refill it when we know we won’t be using it for a while too!”

Another shocked person simply wrote, “How?!”

Zoe explained, “It’s a recycled cow box.

‘We dug a hole in the ground and had the decking built around it!

‘We keep it exactly as clean as any other pool, only smaller!’

Another jokes: ‘A swimming pool? It’s a dog bath at best.”

Zoe hit back at trolls and replied, “No, it’s a pool, six people fit in it.”

David Sharaz began his media career in a well-known breakfast show role before later becoming the focus of political intrigue involving fiancé Brittany Higgins.

For a brief period of time, Mr. Sharaz donned the Frisian themed costume to become Sunrise’s Cash Cow, the phenomenally popular mascot who for many years was the head of the giveaway segment of Seven’s morning TV show.

Mr Sharaz revealed the surprise appearance two years ago in a Twitter post that resurfaced on Wednesday.

“When I started my career in media, I was the Sunrise Cash Cow for a hot second,” he wrote.

David Sharaz, who made national headlines as the alleged “puppet master” behind the political intrigue of the Brittany Higgins saga, has revealed that he played a more famous figure early in his media career.

So my partner decided it would be funny to have a weird flashback on one of my presents. Merry Christmas everyone.’

Mr. Sharaz posted a photo of himself looking stunned holding the Cash Cow depicted on a Sunrise themed deck of playing cards.

With an asterisk he added the self-mockery: ‘Some might say that my career was at its peak like a cow’.

It’s not the only animal mascot Mr. Sharaz has been closely associated with in the past.

While working in the news for Canberra radio station Mix 106.3 in 2018, Mr Sharaz threw his support behind the rock wallaby.

At the time, the animal was up against the eastern bettong in a public vote for the ACT’s favorite mammal emblem.

Mr Sharaz campaigned relentlessly and gave his candidate the persona of ‘Rhonda’ the Rock Wallaby running against ‘Brian’ the Bettong.

He had a Twitter account as ‘Rhonda’ and even made a mock campaign video in which Mr Sharaz played the role of renowned ACT Parks And Conservation spokesman Brett McNamara.

Rhonda the Rock Wallaby revealed a distaste for News Ltd newspapers, who have played a prominent role in publishing leaked texts between Mr Sharaz and Mrs Higgins.

“Nice to see that My Gungahlin fell into the trap of telling people how to vote. A shameful publication that gives its editorial guidance like a rubbish magazine from Rupert Murdoch!’ reads a tweet Rhonda’s account.

In a good precedent for Mr Sharaz’s role as a backroom party, Rhonda the Rock Wallaby stormed home and won the poll by just 40 votes.

Mr Sharaz explained that he was attracted to the underdog in the tight race.

“I started this campaign a week ago because I realized that Brian de Bettong had all the support and I wanted to give the rock wallaby a chance,” Mr Sharaz told the Canberra times.

“I started this campaign a week ago because I realized Brian the Bettong had all the support and I wanted to give the rock wallaby a chance,” said Sharaz.

“My real reason for this campaign is that rock wallabies are critically endangered and it’s important to raise awareness about such beautiful animals.”

Building on this success, Mr. Sharaz also tried his hand at stand-up comedy while performing in Canberra.

Mr Sharaz is currently embroiled in the political controversy over whether he and Ms Higgins used her rape allegations against Bruce Lehrmann to bring down the Morrison Coalition government.

Mr Lehrmann has seized on leaked texts and audio of conversations to attack Mr Sharaz for conspiring with Labor figures such as Anthony Albanese, Tanya Plibersek and Katy Gallagher to inflict political damage on the coalition.

In one of the leaked texts, Sharaz boasted to Ms Higgins that she “exudes power” after her allegations were made public.

Senator Gallagher was forced on Tuesday to deny she had misled parliament by having “no knowledge” of Ms Higgins’ allegations before they surfaced in the media, despite leaked texts and audio showing she had had previous briefings.

Ms Higgins alleges she was sexually assaulted by Mr Lehrmann in a parliament ministerial office in the early hours of March 23, 2019, while both were working as Liberal staffers.

Mr Lehrmann strongly denies the allegations and his criminal trial was halted last October when a juror was found to be conducting his own investigation.

The Sunrise Cash Cow has disappeared from the screens since Telstra made the decision in late 2021 to discontinue SMS’s premium number, which charged a 55p fee for every SMS received.

Previously, Sunrise viewers sent a codeword to Sunrise’s premium SMS number in hopes of winning the daily prize of at least $10,000.

The prize was won if a contestant did not pick up the phone and say the correct slogan live on air.

The Cash Cow was the all-dancing and miming star of the segment, either performing in-studio skits or sometimes filmed and presenting winners with their prizes.

The segment was so successful that Sunrise’s morning rival The Today Show largely copied it with their own giveaway and mascot Blocky, which was a block of money.

Before veteran Sunrise host David Koch’s final show on Friday, the Cash Cow made a surprise appearance.

The Cash Cow appeared outside the window of the Sunrise studio in central Sydney, holding up a series of signs to tell Koch it was time to ‘move over’ and ‘be put out to pasture’.

“That’s Sunrise’s biggest star in all that time,” said a laughing Koch.

A crowd of protesters pushes through the gates of the National Army Headquarters. An angry mob sets fire to the residence of a senior military official. Protesters loot a school run by a paramilitary force.

Once unthinkable, the violent protest scenes that erupted across Pakistan on Tuesday after the arrest of former Prime Minister, Imran Khan, seemed to cross a line against defying the military that has rarely been broken in Pakistan’s turbulent history. Since the country’s founding 75 years ago, the military has held firm control of the country’s politics and foreign policy, carrying out three successful coups and ruling the country directly for decades.

Even under civilian governments, military leaders have maintained an iron – albeit veiled – grip on power, bringing in their preferred politicians and driving out those who have fallen out of line. Few dared open resistance.

When politicians or other citizens complained, it was almost always in code, vaguely speaking of “the establishment” or “the sacred cow,” rather than explicitly mentioning the country’s military or its powerful intelligence agency. They knew what could happen if they continued: disappearances, arrests, lives in exile.

Then came Imran Khan, a former global cricketer turned populist politician and once a fixture in the fashionable London crowd, who had languished on the sidelines of Pakistani politics for over two decades since retiring from the sport.

Mr Khan rallied power from the streets and vowed to tackle the country’s deep economic problems and end endemic corruption while offering an alternative to the country’s entrenched political dynasties. At the time, the army was accused of paving the way to power for Mr Khan in 2018, pressuring his opponents to withdraw or switch sides and swindling the news media.

But relations took a turn for the worse after he was ousted as prime minister in April 2022 in a parliamentary vote of no confidence, with Mr Khan lashing out at the generals, accusing them of plotting against him and his political movement.

For months, Mr. Khan named a senior general of Pakistan’s military intelligence and accused the commander of being behind a shooting that left him wounded in November. And he had skipped court for a slew of corruption cases filed against him – nearly challenging the authorities to arrest him. His supporters followed suit, taking to social media to discredit and accuse the military of undermining democracy.

On Tuesday, authorities appeared to have had enough and arrested Mr Khan in an apparent attempt to retake control.

If the arrest was in many ways a return to the old order of Pakistani politics, the reaction to it was anything but. When Mr Khan was taken away, his supporters erupted in protests against military installations across the country – spurred on by his exhortation to fight. The crowd channeled both the anger that had built up since Mr Khan was removed from office and the frustration over a severe economic crisis, in which record inflation drove up the price of basic goods

Demonstrations continued in major cities on Wednesday, heightening unrest and prompting the army to deploy units in at least two provinces. In some places, protesters fiercely fought security forces, who brandished tear gas grenades and batons in an attempt to disperse the crowd.

Many officials fear that prolonged protests could bring the country to a standstill and that the government led by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will struggle to contain them. easily undone.

“This has become a perfect political storm with very unpredictable consequences,” said Maleeha Lodhi, a former Pakistani ambassador to the United States and Britain. “In the past, the military acted as arbiter of political disputes. Today, the country has no institution that can play that role.”

On Wednesday, Mr. Khan at a police station in the capital Islamabad, which has now become a courtroom, where a court had authorized authorities to detain him for eight days in connection with a corruption case involving the transfer of property. Mr Khan denied the allegations and expressed concern for his safety while in custody, local news media reported.

Separately, Mr Khan was also charged in another way case for illegally selling state gifts during his tenure as prime minister.

At least five people have been killed in the protests since Tuesday, local news outlets reported, and more than 1,000 people have been arrested in the Punjab province alone. Authorities have also shut down the internet in parts of the country in an attempt to quell the unrest.

But the crackdown has not discouraged protesters, and the army, under a new army chief, General Syed Asim Munir, is in a precarious position.

Because Mr Khan has cultivated deep support within the military’s own ranks, an escalation in the crackdown could create a rift that further destabilizes an institution already facing one of its most serious crises since 2007, when the last military chief who seized power, General Pervez Musharraf resigned amid public outcry.

Given the tensions in the army, General Munir “may be under pressure from the military networks, perhaps some senior generals, to pull back, take a turn and reconcile” with Mr Khan, said Asfandyar Mir, a senior expert at the United States Peace Institute.

A crackdown on demonstrators also threatens to further erode military support, which has endured for decades despite the insistence of the generals to shape the country’s politics.

Many Pakistanis still view the military as a moderating force that helps keep corrupt political dynasties in line. Soldiers have been on the frontline in relief efforts following devastating floods and other disasters, and in the crackdown on Pakistani Taliban terrorist campaigns in 2014 and 2017.

That popularity continued for years after Mr Khan’s ascension to Prime Minister. But when Mr Khan was removed from power by parliament in April, it was again with the perception of a military go-ahead to remove him, after he had begun antagonizing the generals.

The criticism of Mr. Khan on the army has since disappeared resonated even beyond his existing support base, and voters rewarded his party with significant victories in elections for vacant parliamentary seats in several provinces. Mr Khan has also called on the government to hold early general elections.

“It’s hard to see the situation deescalating from here,” Madiha Afzal, an associate at Washington’s Brookings Institution, wrote in a text message. Khan’s popular support has so far shielded him from the assertiveness of the establishment. But now that the establishment has asserted itself, it is hard to see it backing down any time soon.”

She added: “Voltage, perilous times for Pakistan.”

Salman Massood reporting contributed.
