And Orie, whose Midlands accent belies the fact he was actually born in Moscow, admitted training alongside AJ at Team GB’s headquarters in Sheffield has made him even more determined to come back with gold.

Orie said: “I only started taking boxing seriously after seeing AJ in London 2012.

“Then it really appealed to me. That is my first and greatest Olympic memory – until I do it!

“When I started, the guy everyone looked up to was Anthony Joshua.

“From then on it was in my head that I had to win a medal because this is what GB Boxing has done time and time again and proven time and time again.

“So it’s only right that I go out there and do that. To listen to the coaches and go out there and perform and just have complete belief and confidence in them and myself.

AJ was crowned king of the super heavyweights in London in 2012 before turning pro and becoming a two-time world champion.

The Watford star, 34, now has a third world crown in his sights after his demolition of former MMA fighter Francis Ngannou in two rounds in Saudi Arabia a fortnight ago.

Orie turns 27 on May 31, two months before the Games start in Paris.

He added: “I’ve spoken to AJ a few times about what it’s like to step into that Olympic arena.

Anthony Joshua climbs Ring Magazine’s heavyweight rankings after Ngannou KO, but ‘crazy’ Fury laughs at rankings

“It’s great because you can have these kinds of conversations with him outside the ring.

“I’m so lucky to be able to talk to him about these things. He gave me advice, both boxing advice and stuff for outside the ring.

“I just couldn’t have a better role model to look up to.”

Orie’s mother is Russian, his father Nigerian and he has a Ukrainian grandmother and cousins.

He came to England at the age of seven, settled in Wolverhampton, has a degree in economics from Aston University in Birmingham and reads books on finance in his spare time.

The ongoing situation in Ukraine remains “devastating and terrible” for Orie, but his heart is now very red, white and blue.

He added: “If I can win that gold medal for Team GB it will mean absolutely everything.

“It will be a way for me to say ‘thank you’ to the nation for giving me all the opportunities I have had so far.

Orie hopes to make Team GB proud in Paris

“I just collect everything and make the most of it.

“My job in Paris will be to inspire the next generation, just as I was inspired as a young adult.

“My boxing has evolved 100 percent over the last few years since I entered the Sheffield GB boxing camp.

“Every tournament I participate in, I feel inside that I am getting better and better.

“Not just physically and in terms of strength, because that’s just natural.

“But in being able to deal with pressure and expectations, being able to deal with the level of opposition and just going out there and winning.

“In terms of progression it is unparalleled. I feel happy these last few years.

“So this is the plan: the Olympics in Paris and then turn professional. And then heavyweight world champion in 2029.

“Early thirties, world champion, I will be happy with that.”

B&M shoppers are thrilled to see a “delicious” Malteser flavor back on shelves.

The discount retailer has restocked Maltesers Gold and fans can’t get enough of it.

Maltesers Gold are filled with the classic malt flavor and covered with white chocolate.

The flavor launched in Australia in January last year and shoppers were desperate to reach British shores.

Astute shoppers first spotted the packs in B&M stores in June last year, but it is not clear when they disappeared from the shelves.

Chocolate lovers have taken to social media to share their excitement about the return of the Maltesers.

One shopper wrote on Facebook: “Looking yummy.”

Another user tagged his friend and said: “Omg have you ever tried any of the gold things – they are amazing.”

A third exclaimed: “Omg I have to try this.”

And a fourth described them as “delicious”.

The Sun has asked B&M how much the 130g Maltesers Gold bags cost, and we will update this story as soon as we hear back.

When The Sun checked we couldn’t find any other retailers selling the treats.

You can find your nearest B&M store using the locator on the website.

Shopping Discounts – How to Save and Find the Best Bargains

It always pays to compare prices to ensure you get the best deal.

Please note that stock may vary from store to store, so it may even be worth calling your local B&M to see if they are selling the new Maltesers flavour.

And to keep an eye on other stores to see if they sell them.

At the time of writing we couldn’t see Malstesers Gold in stock online, but B&M were selling other flavors and sizes.

To the delight of shoppers, dozens of food items are making a comeback – from sweet treats to savory snacks.

B&M is known for offering snacks and sweets that haven’t been before

If you look online there are several independent online retailers doing this, and sometimes it’s worth checking out Amazon too.

Aldi made biscuit lovers’ dreams come true when it revealed it would be bringing back the much-loved Elkes Sports Shortcake biscuits.

While Nestle made KitKat fans very happy when the Hazelnut KitKat Chunky was back on the shelves after three years.

The Sun has put together a guide to the ‘nostalgic’ foods making a comeback.

In the meantime, here’s the full list of discontinued food products that are slowly disappearing from supermarket shelves.

How can I save on my supermarket shopping?

There are plenty of ways to save money at your grocery store.

You can look for yellow or red stickers on products, which indicate when they are discounted.

If the food is fresh, eat it quickly or freeze it for another time.

Making a list should also save you money because you’ll be less likely to make hasty purchases when you go to the grocery store.

Choosing your own brand can be an easy way to save hundreds of dollars a year on your food bill, too.

This means ditching the ‘best’ or ‘luxury’ products and instead opting for ‘own’ or value-for-money lines.

Many supermarkets have shaky fruit and vegetable programs where you can get cheap prices if they are misshapen or imperfect.

For example, Lidl runs its Waste Not scheme, offering 5kg boxes of fruit and vegetables for just £1.50.

If you’re on a low income and a parent, you could potentially get up to £442 a year in Healthy Start vouchers, which you can also use at the supermarket.

In addition, many municipalities offer supermarket vouchers as part of the Household Support Fund.

One savvy shopper took to a coupons and bargains page on social media to share the news and low price, much to the delight of Chupa Chups fans.

One Facebook user quickly exclaimed, “It’s delicious.”

In late 2023, Chupa Chups launched its new lollipop flavored popcorn in Carrefour supermarkets in France and Spain.

Their iconic sweet signature lollipop flavors – including apple, strawberry and cola – have been combined with premium air-popped popcorn to bring you these colorful treats.

A spokesperson for United Food and Beverage Group said: “During big birthday celebrations or intimate TV evenings for all the family.

“We are there together with iconic flavor Chupa Chups popcorn to celebrate true joy.

“We are excited about this great collaboration between partners who share the same values; bringing tasteful and joyful moments to families and friends around the world.”

While the Global Confectionery Group manager added: “We are very excited about the prospect of CRNCH Popcorn Concepts.

“We offer fans of our brand many moments of joy and pleasure with every crunch of this popcorn so expertly glazed in long-favorite Chupa Chups flavors.”

Since its launch in Europe, the lollipop-flavored popcorn has taken consumers by storm – finally making its debut in Britain.

The retailer is known for its value purchases and many social media users have started sharing their offers online.

Earlier this year a man bagged a huge amount of food for just £1.20.

Alongside the photo of the bargain purchases, Anthony French wrote: “Another good morning delivery of B&M items worth 10p. Total £1.20!”

Anthony managed to get his hands on two loaves of Warburtons fruit bread, which were reduced from £1.80 to just 10p each.

He also received two packs of Walls pork and pickle pies, which were reduced from £1.40 to just 10p a pack, two packs of plain chicken breast slices and a pack of chicken tikka breast slices, all costing 10p each from £ 1.25.

Anthony also got some super sweet treats – as he bought a tiramisu dessert, which was reduced from £2.60 to just 10p, and four packets of salted caramel Gu cheesecakes, which once cost £2.50 per packet but now only costs 10 cents. each.

What should have cost Anthony £22.75 actually set him back just £1.20, saving him a whopping £21.55.

Chocolate fans are also sprinting to their nearest B&M to get their hands on a famous soon-to-be-discontinued chocolate bar.

As other bargain hunters rushed to get their hands on Bluetooth wireless headphones, they were reduced to just 10p.

We revealed this week that the super sarnie has been named Britain’s most loved comfort food in a survey.

But where is the best place to buy your slices?

Hayley Minn put the supermarket’s own brand bacon to the test and rated it out of five for taste, appearance and value for money. . .

Waitrose 8 dry-cured smoked bacon strips, 250 g

£4 (2 for £7) Price of slices: 50p or 44p

The Waitrose slices were the most expensive option, but they tasted delicious too

9

THIS was the most expensive cut I tried, so I had big expectations.

It had a good color, browned well and was nicely salted and not too chewy.

So all good, but there were other, much cheaper options that were even more fun.

Score: 4/5

Morrisons smoked bacon strips, 10 pack, 300g

£2.25 (2 for £4) Slice price: 23p or 20p

Morrisons Balanced Bacon scored perfect marks in our taste test

9

GOOD appearance, nice brown and a good amount of fat on the side, which is welcome.

Just the right saltiness, well balanced with the smokiness of the meat. One of my favorites.

Score: 5/5

You cooked bacon all wrong. Don’t fry it in oil if you want it crispy

Asda Butcher’s Selection smoked bacon strips, 16 pack, 500g

£3, price of slices: 19p

Asda's bacon had more fat than the others, even though it tasted fine

9

SIXTEEN slices is great value for money, but they were much greasier than the rest.

Chunks of fat came off during cooking, but there was still quite a bit of fat in it.

The bacon tasted good, but a little too salty.

Score: 3/5

Sainsbury’s smoked bacon rashers, 10 pack, 300g

£2.25, price of slices: 23p

Sainsbury's bacon looked and tasted delicious and scored top marks

REALLY a sight to behold when I took it out of the pan, perfectly browned, with not too much fat.

The taste was great too.

The smokiness was strong and there wasn’t too much salt.

Score: 5/5

Tesco British 10 smoked bacon strips, 300 g

£2.70 (£2.40 Clubcard) Ticket price: 27p or 24p

Tesco's bacon tasted 'quite nice' but lacked meatiness

9

THE FIRST thing I noticed was how much fat there was compared to other purchases.

The taste was decent Niceand not as salty as some of its rivals, but there wasn’t enough meatiness for my taste.

Score: 3/5

Oakhurst smoked bacon rashers, 10 pieces, 300 g Aldi

£2.15, price of slices: 22p

Aldi's bacon scored poorly because it shriveled too much

9

It seemed like a good price for ten slices, but they shriveled a lot when fried and ended up being much smaller than most.

Too salty too. But not too much fat and a pretty good, meaty flavor.

Score: 2/5

Birch wood smoked bacon, 8 pieces, 300g, Lidl

£1.89, price of slices: 24p

You get what you pay for with the very cheap bacon from Lidl

At 7 p.m. individually this seemed great value for your money. So I hoped it tasted as good as the price.

But unfortunately it was way too salty, which overpowered everything else. I couldn’t detect much meat.

Score: 2/5

Co-op smoked back bacon, 280 g, minimum 8 slices

£2, price for slices: 25p

The size of the Co-op racers was a good early sign

RASHERS were nice and big, which put a smile on my face.

The flavor was great too, not too salty and packed with meatiness.

But this bacon had a little too much fat compared to the others.

Red Bull has launched its latest limited edition flavour, just in time for the promise of warmer weather.

With hints of passion fruit and peaches, the latest in the Red Bull UK range uses hints of curuba from South America, known as the ‘banana passion fruit’.

Launching on March 11, the Red Bull Summer Edition Curuba Elderflower will be available nationwide for £1.55 for 250ml.

The new combination is rounded off with the floral notes of fresh elderflower, resulting in a spicy explosion of exotic flavors.

According to research, Gen Z is impressed with the drink, even those who were previously not fans of the Red Bull brand.

Pictured is an aluminum can of the Red Bull Energy drink, seen on an icy background (stock image)

The vibrant green canned drink is best served chilled and over ice, or simply drunk straight from the can for a refreshing boost.

To beat the heat, Red Bull Summer Edition Curuba Elderflower can also be processed into a luxurious cocktail, during the ideal summer dinner.

Experts recommend that hosts can create expertly blended concoctions by combining the curuba elderflower flavors with Everleaf Forest and peach syrup.

Or if you’re a teetotaler, try a non-alcoholic strawberry liqueur as a delicious evening drink if you want to impress your sober guests.

The options are endless with Red Bull's latest limited edition offering, whether you're hosting a barbecue or cocktail party this summer

One woman, Alexia, 25 years old, said: ‘I never saw myself as a Red Bull girl, but this might have changed me’.

Maeve, 22, added: “It’s beach barbecue season,” while George wrote: “Easily one of my favorites.”

Andre described the summer drink as a ‘huge’ love of his, while Lydia, 24, said: ‘It gives SUMMER’.

Sophie, 27, agreed and said: ‘Lovely, even at 8am, finished a small teacup.’

However, warnings were sounded last year by experts calling for a drink-driving campaign to tell drinkers that mixing alcohol with energy drinks could make them violent.

It follows a study into the effects of consuming alcohol mixed with energy drinks, such as Jägerbombs.

Scientists in the US have found that people who enjoy these types of drinks are more likely to become ‘physically and sexually’ aggressive.

For example, they were up to six times as likely to get into an argument, and twice as likely to ‘sexually abuse another person’.

Home Bargains made the announcement on social media Tuesday, posting photos of the brand new products.

It seems that both Aero and Milkyway have collaborated to produce favorite ice cream flavors.

Shoppers can now purchase Raspberry Ripple Ice Cream as their Milky Way flavor, and Neapolitan Ice Cream as their Aero flavor.

Uploading the image to Facebook, Home Bargains said: “Some of your most loved ice cream flavors have made their way into AERO & MILKYBAR! Try these delicious new flavor combinations! Who will you share with?”

No price has been announced for the bags of sweet treats, but they are set to be a big hit with shoppers nonetheless.

And that was reflected in the comments section of the post, with Facebook users getting excited about the exciting news.

“Share? Bag, everyone thinks,” said one.

“I want the Milkybar ones, I gotta find them,” said another.

One person who has tried them before even confirmed that “they really taste like they say.”

The news comes after nostalgic Home Bargains shoppers panicked after spotting ‘the best’ chocolate bar on the shelves.

The discount chain is known for selling everything from energy-saving gadgets to quirky items, but one sweet snack in particular has caught the attention of many in recent weeks.

And chocolate lovers obsessed with Terry’s chocolate orange are in for a treat after a much-loved favorite treat returned to shelves.

Terry’s Chocolate Orange Easter Edition with Crushed Mini Eggs returns with a special Easter twist and recently hit stores.

ALDI shoppers are excited about the return of a “delicious” hot cross bun flavor.

The discount supermarket has just relaunched the banoffee flavor of the traditional Easter treat.

Aldi’s popular hot cross buns with banoffee flavor are backCredit: Facebook

One savvy shopper who managed to get his hands on a pack of the popular flavor posted to the official Food Finds UK Facebook group.

The message read: “NEW banoffee hot cross buns spotted in ALDI,” alongside a photo of the sweet treat.

Other foodies rushed to comment, with a few people noting that the flavor was a firm favorite last year.

One person said: “These taste amazing.”

I had these last year, they were delicious!

Another commented: “I ate these last year, they were delicious.”

While a third said: “OMG I have to try these.”

The post racked up nearly 300 comments and likes from hot cross bun fans excited about the return of the banoffee flavor.

According to the retailer’s website, a pack of four costs £1.25.

However, if you want to get your hands on them, you’ll have to head to your local store.

Although the item is listed online, it only shows as ‘coming soon’ and is not available for purchase.

You can see where your nearest Aldi is via the store locator on the website.

From Campbell’s soup to Caramac and Lilt: the iconic foods that are disappearing from supermarket shelves

As always, we recommend shopping around to make sure you get the best deal.

You can use price comparison sites such as Google Shopping and Trolley.co.uk to compare the prices of items from different retailers.

In addition to getting a better deal, you may also discover a flavor you prefer over banoffee, as many retailers now offer different versions of the traditional hot cross bun.

We’ve looked around to see what alternative flavors other supermarkets are offering to tempt your taste buds.

Morrisons has a pack of four hot cross buns with lemon drizzle as part of its “The Best” range for £1.25 per pack.

This flavor also seems to be a hit with shoppers, as it has received a four-star customer rating on the supermarket’s website.

One fan stated: “These actually taste like lemon!!”

Another agreed, saying: “Taste and smell of lemon which really elevates it from a regular hot cross bun.”

Iceland is also a hit with its four-pack of chocolate and salted caramel flavored hot cross buns.

One customer said the sandwiches are “perfect for non-fruit lovers” and “beautiful with real butter”.

Another fan said: “These are perfect with some jam on top!”

Marks and Spencer recently launched a new flavor that has also appealed to those with a sweet tooth.

One person even went so far as to say that the new flavor is “the only hot cross bun I eat.”

In the meantime, if you’re looking to stock up your Easter cupboard, we can reveal the tastiest hot cross buns and Easter treats in our taste test – and that’s good news for bargain hunters.

And as supermarkets start to compete to offer the best deal, we can reveal which supermarket has recently slashed the price of its large Easter eggs – but you’ll need to be quick as the offer won’t last long.

How to save on your supermarket shopping

Every time I spoke to David Bouley, the discerning, pioneering American chef who died Monday at the age of 70, there poured out a flood of ideas, beliefs, theories, nutritional research, probiotic preservation methods, ethnographic histories and plans to make all this knowledge to improve health and save lives through restaurants.

There may be people who could keep up with him as he sped breathlessly along in ever-widening circles of references and allusions. I wasn't one of them. Every time I called him, usually to check the facts in a restaurant review, I asked what I thought was a simple question. And then I would hold on for ten minutes or more until I heard the answer to my question, or something close to it. It sounded like he was trying to say a hundred things at once.

But while his words were hard to follow, his cooking almost never was. Mr. Bouley could run a dozen flavors at once and never lose control of a dish. Ultimately I came to the conclusion that his ideas were not at all mixed up; only the words were. When Mr. Bouley expressed himself through food, I had no doubt he was on to something.

What was he doing? Early on in Montrachet and later at the first Bouley, on Duane Street in TriBeCa, there was a common perception that fruits, herbs and vegetables could do much more than most chefs asked of them. But first you had to pay attention to where, how and when they were grown.

Other chefs began to wake up to this around the same time, but Mr. Bouley, who grew up on a farm in Connecticut, had a head start. He brought the innovations of French nouvelle cuisine to American food, making sauces from vegetables and herbs instead of butter and cream.

As time went on, he found other ways to do without these and other ingredients, including sugar and wheat flour. There was almost always a moment in every Bouley meal when you were startled by the creaminess of a dish made without cream or the richness of a sauce that contained virtually no fat.

Food and diet would become an obsession of his. He claimed that you could eat one of his long, elaborate, luxurious tasting menus without feeling indigestion. (It worked for me, but that may have been the power of suggestion.)

I was never bored in a Bouley restaurant. Every meal brought new discoveries. He was one of the first non-Japanese chefs I know to explore the power of kudzu to mimic gelatin, or to appreciate the way that quickly killing a fish and bleeding it out on the boat improved its flavor and texture . In a long telephone conversation we discussed his plan to teach this method of slaughter, called ikejime in Japan, to the fishing crews of Connecticut.

When he became interested in bread, he built a restaurant where it was the star, Bouley Bakery. When that closed, his flagship, Bouley, took over; for a time it had the most exciting bread cart in the city, and perhaps the country. The buckwheat-walnut and coconut fiber-pistachio loaves amazed me, and not just because they contain no gluten.

Mr. Bouley's fascination with Japanese cuisine resulted in at least two restaurants: Brushstroke, a subtle experiment in East-West fusion that didn't look like fusion, and its offshoot, Ichimura, which introduced many New Yorkers to the deeper flavors of Edomae sushi. .

His restless mind was constantly coming up with new ideas for restaurants, but good luck to anyone looking for a master plan for all openings, closings and relocations. He didn't seem to have the steely business acumen of other chefs like Daniel Boulud, his contemporary, with whom he was sometimes confused. While Mr. Boulud built a restaurant business that reaches from the Upper East Side to Singapore, Mr. Bouley continued to renovate the same few blocks of TriBeCa.

Finally, in 2017, he set his sights on West 21st Street, with a creative center that included a cooking school, a bakery, a test kitchen that doubled as an event space, and what turned out to be his last restaurant, Bouley at Home. . It closed for good in the early months of the pandemic.

The event space-slash-test kitchen was equipped with a Steinway Model B piano, a wall of McIntosh audio components, and two enormous chambered nautilus-shaped speakers. You have to be a little more than a casual music fan to put a concert grand piano and a sound system worth more than $100,000 in a room that is only used occasionally.

Despite the perpetual motion of his intellect, Mr. Bouley was also devoted to the senses — a good thing in a chef, and somehow not as common as you might think. He decorated Bouley's foyer with hundreds of apples, making the small room smell like an orchard upstate in the fall. The dining room was decorated with fabrics that you wanted to feel against your skin.

His cooking became increasingly focused on creating “the most nutrient-dense menus… for unbreakable health,” as the Bouley at Home website put it. But when you started eating, you would have believed that every dish had been devised by someone who had never thought for a minute about anything other than how to fill each serving with a few more grams of pleasure.

Mr. Bouley was always in the kitchen trying out new hypotheses. That was part of what made him a rare talent. But nothing he gave you showed signs of the lab. That was the rest of his gift; his experiments no longer tasted like experiments. He found ways to give them life.

Easy crêpes by BBC Good Food

Nail the basics with this easy crepe recipe

Prep: 5 mins

Cook: 20 mins

Makes: 8 large pancakes

Use this easy crêpe mix to make sweet or savoury pancakes. There’s enough batter to make a main course and dessert for a family of four.

Ingredients

  • 175g plain flour
  • 3 large eggs
  • 450ml milk
  • sunflower oil, for frying

Method

STEP 1

Weigh the flour in a large jug or bowl. Crack in the eggs, add half the milk and a pinch of salt. Whisk to a smooth, thick batter. Add the remaining milk and whisk again. Set aside for at least 30 mins.

STEP 2

Heat a large non-stick crêpe pan or frying pan. Add a drizzle of oil, then wipe out the excess with kitchen paper. When the pan is hot, add enough batter to just cover the surface, swirling it and pouring any excess back into the bowl. The pancake should be as thin as possible. When the edges are peeling away from the sides of the pan, shake it to see if the pancake easily releases and is browning on the underside. If not, cook a little longer. Flip and cook the other side for a minute or two. Serve, or keep warm in a low oven

Prep:15 mins

Cook:25 mins

Serves 4 (makes about 10 pancakes)

Treat yourself to a lazy brunch with these American-style fluffy pancakes with pancetta and maple drizzle

Ingredients

8 rashers smoked streaky bacon (or pancetta strips)

140g self-raising flour

1 tsp baking powder

2 tbsp light soft brown sugar

2 ripe bananas, 1 mashed, 1 thinly sliced

2 large eggs

25g butter, melted, plus a little extra

125ml milk

maple syrup

 Method

STEP 1

Heat the grill to high. Arrange the bacon on a baking tray lined with foil. Cook for 5-7 mins until crisp, then turn off the grill but leave the tray inside to keep warm. In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder and sugar with a pinch of salt. Make a well in the centre and add the mashed banana, eggs, butter and milk. Whisk to a smooth batter without any flour lumps.

STEP 2

Heat a little butter in a large frying pan. Once sizzling, ladle in small dollops of the pancake batter, leaving a little space between each, as they will spread out. Put 2 or 3 slices of banana onto the surface of each pancake and cook for 2 mins over a medium heat. When you see bubbles appear between the banana slices, flip the pancakes over and cook for 1 min more, until puffed up and golden. Transfer to a plate and keep warm with the bacon while you cook the rest. Serve the pancakes with the crispy bacon and a drizzle of maple syrup.

  • 3 tbsps rapeseed oil, plus extra for the pan
  • 600ml whole milk
  • ¼ tsp sea salt
  • 1 ½ tsps vanilla extract
  • 270g plain flour

  • 70g caster sugar

Mascarpone white chocolate whipped ganache

  • 410g whipping cream
  • 390g mascarpone cheese, full fat
  • 50g maple / coconut syrup
  • Kiwis, berries, chocolate shavings and mini meringues to serve.

Method

1. For the best results, begin the ganache the day before. Add the gelatine and iced water to a small bowl and stir to dissolve. Set aside.

2. Break the white chocolate into small pieces in a large heatproof bowl. Add the cream, mascarpone and maple syrup to a medium pan and whisk to combine. Bring to a boil, remove from the heat and whisk in the gelatine.

3. Pour the hot cream over the white chocolate and leave to stand, without stirring, for 1 minute. Whisk until the chocolate is smooth and homogenous. Do not overmix.

4. Cover the surface with plastic wrap and pop in the fridge overnight to set.

5. The next day, add the eggs, oil, milk, salt, vanilla, flour, matcha and sugar to a blender and blend until smooth. Cover the surface with plastic wrap and chill for at least 30 minutes.

6. While the batter is chilling, transfer your ganache to the bowl of a stand mixer and whip on high speed for 4-5 minutes until light and fluffy, set aside until the crepes are cooked.

7. Heat a Crepe Pan or non-stick frying pan over a medium-high heat. Dribble a small amount of oil onto the pan and use kitchen paper to spread and wipe away the excess (you will only need to do this every 3-4 crepes).

8. Add a ladle of the batter and swirl over the pan until even and thin. Cook for about 30 seconds until bubbles appear on the surface then flip and cook until dry. Remove and repeat with the remaining batter.

 9. When ready, serve the crepes piled high with ganache, fruits, berries, and chocolate shavings.

Ingredients

400g sweet potatoes, scrubbed and diced

2 British Blacktail Medium Free Range Eggs, separated

¼ tsp ground cinnamon

2 tbsp Tracklements Fresh Chilli Jam

250g pack essential Halloumi

2-3 tbsp mild olive oil

40g watercress, large stalks removed

Method

1. Cook the sweet potatoes in a saucepan of lightly salted water until tender, about 10-12 minutes. Drain thoroughly, return to the pan and mash until smooth. Turn into a bowl and leave to cool slightly.

2. Beat the egg yolks and cinnamon into the mash. Whisk the egg whites in a thoroughly clean bowl until peaking. Stir a third into the mash to lighten it. Add the remainder and fold in using a large metal spoon. Combine the chilli jam in a small bowl with 2 tbsp water. Pat the halloumi dry on kitchen paper then cut into 8 slices.

3. Heat 1 tbsp of the oil in a frying pan. Add 4 large spoonfuls of the sweet potato mixture (about half) and flatten down slightly. Fry for about 2 minutes until firm enough on the undersides to be able to turn them with a fish slice. Cook for a further 1-2 minutes until just firm. Transfer to a plate and keep warm. Cook the remainder to make a total of 8 pancakes, adding a dash more oil to the pan if necessary.

4. Once the pancakes are cooked, add a little more oil to the pan and cook the halloumi for 1-2 minutes on each side until crisp and golden.

5. Place the pancakes on warmed serving plates and pile the halloumi on top. Place a handful of watercress over each and serve drizzled with the chilli jam.

Vegan Crepes with Strawberry Compote and Superberries by Bioglan superfoods are sure to be a hit

 Ingredients

  • 250g plain flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp Bioglan Superfoods Superberries powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 600 ml unsweetened non-dairy milk (we used soy)
  •  2 tbsp neutral oil (sunflower/vegetable/mild olive/rapeseed etc) or melted coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup (optional)

Berry Compote: –

  • 400g mixed frozen berries, 2 tbsp water, 3 tbsp sugar

Method

1. Place the flour, Superberries, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. Whisk in the milk a little at a time to avoid lumps.

Continue to whisk until it is all incorporated and the mixture is smooth, then whisk in the oil and maple syrup (if using).

Set the batter aside to rest while you make the sauces.

2. When you are ready to cook the crepes, place a non-stick frying pan over a medium-high heat.

Add a small knob of vegan spread or coconut oil then wipe out the pan with kitchen roll; you just want it to be lightly greased.

 3. Add a ladleful of the batter and swirl the pan to coat. Cook for a couple of minutes until the underside of the pancake is golden, then carefully flip it over and continue to cook for about 30 seconds, until lightly browned. The pancakes will shrink a little as they cook.

4. Slide the pancake onto a plate and repeat the greasing and cooking until you have used all of the batter.

5. Make the berry compote. Place the berries, water and sugar in a pan over a medium heat and bring up to a simmer. Allow to simmer gently for 5-10 minutes until the berries are soft. Taste and add more sugar as needed.

6. To serve, top the crepes with the berry compote. Enjoy!

INGRIDIENTS

  • 450g Japanese pancake mix
  • 3 eggs
  • 150ml milk
  • 150g plain yoghurt
  • 30g melted butter

Suggested Toppings: butter, maple syrup, fresh fruit, whipped cream

You will also need:

A circular metal mould open on both ends, about 10cm in diameter, and 5cm in height

METHOD

 1. In a large bowl, combine the eggs, milk, yogurt, and melted butter. Mix with a hand mixer until frothy and completely combined.

2. Add the pancake mix to the mixture and mix until combined. Be careful not to over mix or the pancakes may become tough.

3. Prepare some parchment paper. Using the mould as a guide, cut out 6 circles of parchment paper. Lightly butter one side of each circle.

4. Preheat a frying pan on medium heat. Place one of the parchment circles in the centre, and then place the mould on top.

5. Add the pancake mix until the mould is about two thirds full.

6. Place a lid on the frying pan and reduce the heat to medium low heat. Allow the pancake to cook for about 10 mins, until small bubbles start to form across the entire surface of the pancake. Remove the lid and lift the mould and parchment to check for colour and cook more if needed until golden brown.

7. When the first side is finished, place a circle of parchment on top of the mould. Then using the lid or a small plate, flip the pancake onto it and place the uncooked side onto the frying pan. Remove the parchment on top from the cooked side. Cook for a further 5 mins until done. Test for doneness with a toothpick or small knife and if it comes out clean it is finished.

8. Remove from the frying pan and repeat the cooking process 2 more times to make a total of 3 pancakes.

  • To make the crepes, put the plain flour, salt and sugar in a large mixing bowl, make a well in the centre and add the eggs
  • Start stirring with a balloon whisk, then slowly whisk in the melted butter, milk and water.
  • Increase your whisking speed until you have a thin batter about the consistency of single cream
  • Next, heat a frying pan (preferably non-stick) over a medium heat, drizzle in a teaspoon of melted butter and wipe it over the base with kitchen paper
  • Drop a small ladleful of pancake batter into the pan, swirling so it coats the base evenly in a thin layer.
  • Cook for 2 minutes or until the underside is golden, then flip and cook on the other side for a minute or so. Remove to a warm plate and repeat
  • Stack the crêpes between layers of baking parchment as you go, keeping them warm in a low oven
  • Spread each warm crêpe generously with about 2 tbsp lemon curd
  • Add a small handful of raspberries into the centre and a spoonful of crème fraiche. Fold the crepe in half
  • Dust lightly with icing sugar and top with lemon shreds, almonds and lemon thyme. Add a few more berries and enjoy straight away
