Home Depot must remove from its platform an employee who resigned after refusing to remove a slogan supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, the National Labor Relations Board announced Wednesday after finding that the employee's actions were protected by federal law.

The pronounciation ruled by the National Labor Relations Board that Home Depot violated federal law in 2021 when it told employees to stop or use the letters “BLM,” an acronym for Black Lives Matter, that they had hand-drawn on their apron, had to remove.

The case is one of several that have focused on the issue of civil rights dress in the workplace following the police killing of George Floyd in May 2020, an episode that prompted many workers across the country to support the Black Lives Matter movement by showing their support. work uniforms or face masks.

The National Labor Relations Board said in its ruling that Antonio Morales Jr., who worked at a Home Depot store in the Minneapolis area, was protected by the National Labor Relations Act, which guarantees employees' legal right to engage in 'coordinated activities'. 'for 'mutual assistance or protection'.

In its ruling, the federal agency said the employee's refusal to remove the “BLM” marking from their uniform was deemed “coordinated” and “for mutual aid or protection” due to employees' previous protests at the store over racial discrimination .

Lauren McFerran, president of the Labor Council, said in a rack On Wednesday, he said that “it is well established that workers have the right to work together to improve their working conditions – including by protesting racial discrimination in the workplace.”

She added: “It is equally clear that an employee who acts individually to support a group protest over a workplace issue remains protected under the law.”

Home Depot said in an emailed statement Wednesday that it disagreed with the Labor Board's decision.

“The Home Depot is fully committed to diversity and respect for all people,” the company said. “We will not tolerate any form of harassment or discrimination in the workplace.”

The company said in an email that it would review the full advice from the Labor Council in the coming days. It was unclear whether the company intended Antonio Morales Jr. immediately reinstated or appealed.

Home Depot can still appeal the Labor Board ruling to a federal appeals court.

The employee could not immediately be reached for comment on Wednesday. It was unclear whether they had an attorney.

Charlotte Garden, a law professor at the University of Minnesota, said in an interview Wednesday that the union's decision in the Home Depot case had the potential to set a precedent in similar labor board cases.

“This decision is extremely important as it sets out a number of principles for how the board will deal with these issues,” Ms Garden said.

Still, other cases will depend on their own individual facts, Ms. Garden said, adding that one distinction in the Home Depot case was that the employee wore the “BLM” marking on their uniform as part of an effort to draw attention on racial problems. discrimination in their store.

According to the labor board's order, the employee began wearing the “BLM” logo in August 2020, and sometime afterward they began talking to coworkers and supervisors in the store about “topics including ongoing discrimination and harassment.”

In one case highlighted in the Labor Board order, the employee was told by a coworker to closely monitor a black customer who was shopping in the store because the coworker said people of Somali descent were more likely to steal .

On February 18, 2021, Antonio Morales Jr. met with a Home Depot district manager who told them that wearing the “BLM” mark violated the company's dress code and that they were not allowed to wear the mark on their apron.

“I know that, and I am willing to be fired for this,” they said, according to a transcript of the meeting.

According to the Labor Council, Antonio Morales Jr. discharged the next day.

In addition to reinstating the employee, Home Depot was also ordered to return their wages, compensate them for any adverse tax consequences, and the store must also stop prohibiting its employees from engaging in “protected joint activities ', such as wearing black clothing. Lives Matter marker on an apron.

Nikki (@nikkieeditie) filmed herself getting ready for the event in a video on TikTok.

“This was a big hit at my Super Bowl party last year. I went to Home Depot and got a $30 turf,” she said.

A turf refers to an artificial grass material that can be rolled out like a carpet.

“We cut it to fit our kitchen counter, where we normally put our food for parties,” she said, filming her food on the grass-covered counter.

“It gave the party a game-day atmosphere without being too tacky or overdone,” she said.

'I can use it for years to come.

“And a good party is in the details, and this is a great example of that,” she added.

The video attracted many viewers who weighed in on the decor in the comments section.

“Oh and great for Easter etc,” one person wrote.

“Yes,” Nikki replied. “This year I get to host Easter brunch and I'm so excited to use this and put little eggs on everything.”

“Good idea,” another added. “I would go one step further and put the garden lines on it too. Super cute”

“I thought about it, but after I put the plates down you couldn't see what it was,” Nikki wrote back. “Plus, I like that it's minimal and that I can use it for Easter too.”

“Okay, would this look weird at a safari-themed birthday party?” a third commented.

“I think that sounds cute,” Nikki said. “What a good idea.”

Russian crisis updates: Amid the uprising of the private military company Wagner and reports that its personnel are headed for the Russian capital, the Moscow region has suspended all mass outdoor events until July 1, authorities announced, as reported by the media.

This was done after Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin asked residents and others not to travel through the city and to limit their movements around the capital as rebels from the mercenary Wagner Group appear to be moving towards the city, the government reported. BBC.

“The situation is difficult,” Sobyanin said in his statement to Telegram.

He added that it is possible that some roads or neighborhoods in the city will be closed to traffic.

Sobyanin has just published a statement on Telegram announcing that “a counter-terrorism regime has been declared in Moscow” and that Monday will be a “non-working day” to “minimize risk,” according to the BBC.

He asked Muscovites not to “travel around the city as much as possible”.

“The city services are on high alert,” he said.

Earlier in the day, life went on as usual, albeit with a heavy security presence and with roadblocks set up to control vehicles, while some bridges were also closed. Wagner mercenaries appear to be moving north from central regions of Russia towards the capital, the BBC reported.

Verified information from the ground is relatively sparse, but Wagner forces appear to be moving north toward Moscow, it said.

This morning Wagner mercenaries were seen in the southern city of Rostov-on-Don; reports later emerged that Wagner forces were in Voronezh, 560 km to the north.

Now the governor of the Lipetsk region, north of Voronezh, said Wagner troops are moving through the region, the BBC reported.

Moscow is only 400 km north. It is not clear how many troops Wagner has in each place, or how large the group seen in Lipetsk was.

Meanwhile, Yevgeny Prigozhin, the chief of the Russian mercenary group, appeared to suggest that he sent an armed convoy on Saturday on a 1,200 km attack towards Moscow to overthrow the leadership. Russian officials said a military convoy was on the main highway connecting the southern part of European Russia, bordering Ukraine, with Moscow. Prigozhin announced that he was at army headquarters in Rostov-on-Don in southern Russia and that his fighters controlled the city’s military areas.

A fuel depot has been set on fire in Russia’s southern city of Voronezh. “In Voronezh (authorities) are extinguishing a burning fuel depot. There are 100 firefighters and more than 30 vehicles on the scene,” Governor Alexander Gusev said.

“According to initial information, there were no casualties,” he said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a televised address to the nation that the actions of Yevgeny Prigozhin and the Wagner mercenary group posed a “mortal threat” to Russia and amounted to internal treason.

On the other hand, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the uprising launched by members of the Wagner mercenary group was evidence of Russia’s inherent political instability.

Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus says Americans need to “wake up” to the reality that the US economy is going through tough times following the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank.

Marcus also placed some of the blame for the bank’s failure on the Biden administration, prioritizing “global warming” over shareholder returns.

He argued that the bank’s collapse shows that the US economy is not as strong as President Biden has suggested.

Marcus criticized bank officials for selling their stock before the collapse, lamenting the fact that many Americans lost their money in what he called an “awakened bank.”

“I can’t wait for Biden to get back into the speech and talk about how great the economy is and how it’s moving forward and getting stronger every day. And this is an indication that what he says is not true.

And maybe the American people will finally wake up and understand that we are living in very difficult times, that in fact a recession has already started. Who knows? But it doesn’t look good,’ Marcus continued fox news, on Saturday.

Bernie Marcus, co-founder of Home Depot, urges Americans to pay attention and understand that the country is in ‘difficult times’ following the collapse of SV Bank

People line up outside the closed headquarters of the Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) on March 10, 2023 in Santa Clara, California

Marcus blamed the Biden administration for pushing banks to prioritize “diversity and all waking issues” over shareholder returns, suggesting that a focus on social policies is now causing banks to be mismanaged and their shareholders and their own not protect workers.

“I feel sorry for all these people who lost all their money in this waking bank. You know, it was more disturbing to learn that the bank officials had sold their stock before this happened. It’s depressing to me. Who knows if the Justice Department would go after them? They are a wake company so I don’t think so. And they’ll probably get away with it,” he continued.

Marcus went on to warn that the US economy is in trouble, with interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve and inflation going in the wrong direction.

“I think the system, which the administration has pushed a lot of these banks into [being] more concerned about global warming than shareholder returns. And these banks are being misled because everyone is focused on diversity and all waking issues and not focusing on the one thing they should be doing, which is shareholder returns,” Marcus stated on Fox.

Marcus said he doesn't believe President Biden's speeches when he talks about the improving economy

Marcus said he doesn’t believe President Biden’s speeches when he talks about the improving economy

“Instead of protecting shareholders and their employees, they are more concerned about social policies. And I think it’s probably a poorly run bank. They’ve been there for many years. It’s sad that so many people have lost money and never get it back.’

Marcus criticized Biden’s proposal to tax the middle class and the wealthy, calling it “stupid” and arguing that such policies are counterproductive in a recession.

But Marcus’s warning is bleak and he believes the US economy is in serious trouble with the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank, a sign of things to come as he believes the US needs to adopt more sensible economic policies to weather the storm .

He argued that people are struggling to pay their bills and fill their tanks with gas, while the Biden administration, he says, is “numb” to such problems.

Marcus called for someone with a “sound head” to come and understand that the US cannot keep raising tariffs, keep inflation as high as it is, and tax people more than they are already being taxed.

The Fed continues to raise rates and inflation continues to go in the wrong direction. It doesn’t stay where it should be. People struggle. They cannot fill their tanks with gasoline. And if you think that’s a good sign, I don’t think so. And we have an administration that is stupid about this. They keep talking about the great times and how good it is. It’s not good,’ Marcus concluded.

“Someone with common sense needs to come in and understand that you can’t do two things. First, you can’t keep raising rates. You can’t keep inflation as strong as it is. And you can’t tax people more than they are.[Biden’s] proposal to tax the middle class and the wealthy is about as stupid as I’ve heard for a long time. You don’t do that kind of thing in a recession like that.’

Mark Cuban, entrepreneurial owner of the Dallas Mavericks, has called on the Federal Reserve to take swift action and take responsibility in the aftermath of Silicon Valley Bank

Meanwhile, Mark Cuban, entrepreneurial owner of the Dallas Mavericks, has called on the Federal Reserve to take swift action and take responsibility in the wake of Silicon Valley Bank.

Cuban posted a series of tweets urging the Fed to buy all SVB securities and debt at a price close to par, which should cover most deposits.

He suggested paying any losses in equity and new debt from the new bank or its potential buyers.

“The Fed should IMMEDIATELY buy all securities/debt that the bank owns at par, which should be enough to cover most of the deposits,” Cuban wrote online.

“All losses have been paid in equity and new debt from the new bank or whoever buys it. The Fed knew this was a risk. They should own it

If the Fed doesn’t own it, trust in the banking system becomes a problem. There are a lot of banks with more than 50 percent uninsured deposits.’

“What are best practices to protect against a future run if your company is writing millions of checks every week?”

Cuban argued that the Fed knew such a risk existed and therefore had to take ownership of it.

Failing to do so, he claimed, could undermine confidence in the banking system, as many banks have uninsured deposits of more than 50 percent.

Cuban also questioned the role of regulators in overseeing the SVB and expressed surprise that the bank was allowed to operate in this way.

The bank had a reputation as the go-to bank for Silicon Valley startups and includes companies like Airbnb, DoorDash, and DropBox among references.

The co-founder of Home Depot, Bernie Marcus (pictured left), says Americans need to ‘wake up’ to the reality that the US economy is facing tough times following the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank. Marcus also laid some of the blame for the bank’s failure with the Biden administration over prioritizing ‘global warming’ instead of shareholder returns. He argued that the collapse of the bank shows the US economy is not as strong as President Biden has suggested. Marcus criticized the bank’s officials for selling off their stock before the collapse, and lamented the fact that many Americans lost their money in what he called a ‘woke bank.’

'I can't wait for Biden to get on the speech again and talk about how great the economy is and how it's moving forward and getting stronger by the day. But it doesn't look good,' Marcus said on Fox News, on Saturday. Marcus blamed the Biden administration for pushing banks to prioritize 'diversity and all of the woke issues' over shareholder returns and suggested that a focus on social policies is now causing banks to be badly run, and failing to protect their shareholders and their own employees. 'I feel bad for all of these people that lost all their money in this woke bank. You know, it was more distressing to hear that the bank officials sold off their stock before this happened. It's depressing to me. Who knows whether the Justice Department would go after them? They're a woke company, so I guess not. And they'll probably get away with it,' he continued.

You can't keep inflation as strong as it is. And you can't tax people more than they are. [Biden's] proposal to tax the middle class and the rich is about as dumb as I've heard it a long time. In a recession like this, you don't do things like that.' Meanwhile, Mark Cuban, entrepreneurial owner of the Dallas Mavericks, has called on the Federal Reserve to take swift action and assume responsibility in the aftermath Silicon Valley Bank. Cuban posted a series of tweets in which he urged the Fed to purchase all the securities and debt owned by SVB at a price close to par, which should cover most deposits. He suggested that any losses be paid for in equity and new debt from the new bank or its potential buyers.

‘The Fed keeps raising rates and inflation keeps going in the wrong direction. It’s not staying where it should be. People are struggling. They can’t fill their tanks with gas. And if you think that’s a good sign, I don’t think it is. And we have an administration that’s obtuse to this. They just keep talking about the great times and how good it is. Cuban posted a series of tweets in which he urged the Fed to purchase all the securities and debt owned by SVB at a price close to par, which should cover most deposits. He suggested that any losses be paid for in equity and new debt from the new bank or its potential buyers.

'The Fed should IMMEDIATELY buy all the securities/debt the bank owns at near par, which should be enough to cover most deposits,' Cuban (pictured) wrote online. 'Any losses paid for in equity and new debt from the new bank or whoever buys it. The Fed knew this was a risk. They should own it. If the Fed doesn't own it, trust in the banking system becomes an issue. There are a ton of banks with more than 50 pct uninsured deposits. What would be best practices to protect from a future run if your company writes millions in checks weekly?' Cuban argued that the Fed knew that such a risk existed and, therefore, should take ownership of it. Failure to do so, he claimed, could undermine trust in the banking system, given that many banks have uninsured deposits of over 50 percent. Cuban also questioned the role of regulators in overseeing SVB and expressed surprise that the bank was allowed to operate in the manner it did. The bank had reputation as the go-to bank for Silicon Valley startups and include firms such as Airbnb, DoorDash and DropBox among referrals.
