Prince William found out his wife Kate had cancer before he pulled out of attending King Constantine of Greece’s memorial service.

The Prince of Wales’s absence from the St George’s Chapel event at Windsor Castle on February 27 had raised eyebrows, but tonight’s revelation about the princess’s health has shed new light on why he stayed away.

Kate had only just been diagnosed with cancer ahead of beginning chemotherapy, it was revealed tonight – after Buckingham Palace had initially said the previous month her condition was non-cancerous.

Royal aides are now expected to rally around William all the more as he steps back from frontline duties and looks after the couple’s children as his wife recuperates.

The prince has already been adjusting his royal duties to devote even more time to his family after Kate was first admitted to the London Clinic in January.

The couple have both been dedicated to doing their fair share of the school run each morning and afternoon since their three children began attending £24,000-a-year Lambrook School near Ascot in Berkshire in September 2022.

The co-ed institution is not far from the family’s Frogmore Cottage home on the Windsor estate – and is also convenient for visits by the princess’s parents.

Carole and Michael Middleton live just 33 miles away in Bucklebury, Berkshire, and the strong mother-daughter bond has been a key feature of troubled recent months.

Kate’s siblings Pippa, 40, and James, 36, are also close at hand in Bucklebury. 

William’s decision not to attend the memorial service for King Constantine came as a surprise at the time, with the reason described as ‘personal reasons’.

Also missing was his father King Charles, himself receiving treatment for cancer.

Queen Camilla was instead the most senior member of the Royal Family in attendance, with William’s uncle Prince Andrew also enjoying a prominent role as he led fellow royals on foot to the service.

Constantine was the godfather of William, who is said to have called the Greek royal family to apologise for not being there. 

The Prince was due to read from Revelation 21:1-7, a popular reading for funerals that begins ‘Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth’.

He had cleared his diary of official duties to help support Kate’s recovery, although did visit a homelessness charity’s base in Sheffield on Tuesday this week.

The couple were seen being driven from Windsor on March 11, although only William attended that afternoon’s Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey in central London while Kate continued on to a private appointment elsewhere.

Their children Prince George, 10, eight-year-old Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, five, all attend Lambrook School which starts its summer term on April 17. 

Royal experts have said the parents chose Lambrook because they wanted their children to have a ‘different kind of schooling’ to their own. 

George and Charlotte were previously pupils at Thomas’s Battersea while Louis attended Willcocks Nursery in Kensington, both schools in London.

William and Kate were pictured strolling into Lambrook School’s grounds hand-in-hand with their children for their first day there in September 2022.

They are believed to have been sharing ‘school run’ duties but William has now been taking on more responsibilities – as have Kate’s parents Carole, 69, and Michael, 74.

Earlier this month Carole was snapped at the wheel of a car driving her daughter – pictured for the first time in two months – around Windsor Castle.

The photos were published by US gossip website TMZ but not in the UK after Kensington Palace appealed for her to be able to recuperate in private.

Insiders who knew the Middleton children at school have said her family was renowned for ‘doing everything to the very highest of standards’.

A fellow parent told Tatler recently: ‘There were huge picnics on sports days, the smartest tennis rackets — that kind of thing.

‘It made the rest of us all feel rather hopeless. Ultimately, Carole has played a blinder as a mother – not only are all of her children unfairly good-looking, they are also famously charming.

‘Always the first to write a thank-you letter, they dance all night and are still the first up in the morning, plumping cushions and washing up.’

Two years ago, Carole and Michael Middleton made a sombre appearance as they joined senior members of the Royal Family for the late Queen Elizabeth II’s committal service. 

Months later, they were seen in high spirits as they arrived at Westminster Abbey for the coronation of King Charles III – arriving alongside their children Pippa and James.

Kate’s mother has also always been on hand to support Kate for her annual ‘Together At Christmas’ Carol Service – a known passion project of the princess’s. 

Other get-togethers have seen the mother and daughter huddled up alongside each other at Royal Ascot – and in summer 2022, Kate was seen blowing her parents a kiss as the family attended Wimbledon.

Kate, William and their children have their main home as four-bedroom Adelaide Cottage on the Windsor grounds in Berkshire, with no live-in staff although they do have a nanny, housekeeper and security team living nearby.

The Grade II listed property is owned by the Crown Estate and the couple are said to be paying ‘market rent’.

Lambrook School has just 610 boys and girls aged three to 13 and is mixed so all three children can attend together, cutting down on school runs and security teams.

It offers boarding but George, Charlotte and Louis have all been day pupils there.

The Good Schools Guide says the prep school has a ‘heart of gold’ and offers pupils ‘total freedom to explore, provided you’ve got your wellies on’.

It boasts of ‘first-class teaching and superb facilities’ including a 25-metre swimming pool, a nine-hole golf course, an Astroturf, squash court and a new £6million Queen’s Building for ICT and academic learning.

The prospectus quotes one parent calling it ‘the most magical place for our children to spend time, and they can often be seen rosy-cheeked and perfecting handstands, throwing balls or racing to the three stumps’.

School sources have described William and Kate as being ‘like a normal mum and dad’ who throw themselves into events at Lambrook. 

Hello! magazine reported the royal couple take part in all the important school activities, including ‘queueing for the tombola’ in a recent fundraising drive.

The future King and Queen are described as discreetly slipping into events such as carol concerts, fitting occasions around their busy schedules.

Will England get a new kit for Euro 2024 release date?

As the England football team prepare for European Championship glory, the kit they will wear on the battlefield has finally been revealed.

On social media, the English account posted a photo of the kits: “Our England. Our pride. Our family.

The men’s collection, which Gareth Southgate’s players will wear during this summer’s European Championship, will be released on March 21, while the women’s kits will go on sale in June.

The England men’s team are expected to debut the home kit when they play Brazil in a friendly on Saturday before hosting Belgium three days later.

The Lionesses’ next match is a Euro 2025 qualifier against Sweden at Wembley on April 5.

Some fans were excited about the news, calling the design an instant classic that is sure to bring football home this year.

While others have found the new kit to be “too woke” and “too expensive”.

How much does the New England kit cost?

Both the men’s and women’s competition shirts cost €124.99, while the children’s competition top costs a slightly lower price of €119.

If fans want something cheaper, they can opt for the stadium top, which costs £84.99, while the kids’ shirt costs £64.99.

Kids can also buy the full kit for £54.99, while baby kits currently cost £49.

In an exclusive interview with The Sun, Labour’s Keir Starmer criticized the prices and said they should be cut.

He said: ‘I’m not even sure they can properly explain why they thought they needed to change in the first place.

“They could also lower the price of the shirts.”

Why did Nike change the English flag?

Fans quickly noticed that the traditional red cross on the Three Lions kit has been changed to a cross of navy blue, light blue and purple.

It is believed to be a nod to the 1966 World Cup winners’ training kit, which featured blue, red and purple.

The change led to some calling the shirt “woke”, as they called on the manufacturer to return to the usual colours.

But according to The mailNike will not succumb to the pressure from some English fans.

A Nike spokesperson said: “The England 2024 home kit disrupts history with a modern take on a classic.

“The piping on the cuffs is inspired by the training gear worn by England’s 1966 heroes, with a gradient of blue and red topped with purple.

“The same colors also feature an interpretation of the flag of St. George on the back of the collar.”

It is understood the flag change was the work of a Nike designer, but was also signed off by the FA.

And the FA insists the decision was made to “honor the classic 1966 training kit color scheme”.

Sir Keir told The Sun that the “flag is used by everyone, it is unifying and does not need to be changed”.

He said, “We should just be proud of it. So I think they should just rethink this and change it back.”

The home kit is classic white with a blue collar and blue shorts.

Meanwhile, the second strip is all purple and is receiving high praise from fans.

Finally, the goalkeepers will appear between the sticks in striking orange jerseys.

Although some fans are baffled by the away kit, arguing that it is the new optical illusion of the “blue and black dress”.

Why is the England kit purple?

According to a statement from the England football team, the new match kit is inspired by old football legends.

The team said that “the striking purple color is a remix of red and blue from the past.”

So it looks like the team has decided to mix kits from the past, which were usually blue or red, to take the team into the future.

Many fans were excited about the look of the comics.

One said: “So this is what Kane will look like when he lifts the European Championship trophy this summer.”

While a second replied: “Omg we actually win it all.”

RuPaul offered a rare insight into his long-lasting love for his spouse Georges Le Barrecalling a moment during their first days of dating that changed their relationship.

Prince and Princess Michael of Kent’s daughter married financier Thomas Kingston at St George’s Chapel in the grounds of Windsor Castle, surrounded by family and friends, on May 18, 2019.

Sadly the couple were to enjoy less than five full years of marriage before Mr Kingston’s untimely death aged 45, which was announced by Buckingham Palace on Tuesday evening. 

Other royals in attendance on the couple’s big day included Sarah, Duchess of York with her ex-husband Prince Andrew, their daughter Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Marpelli Mozzi and Princess Anne.

The Middleton family were also out in force with Kate’s parents Carole and Michael and sister Pippa in attendance – thanks to her longstanding friendship with the groom.

Prince Philip, who retired from royal duties in May 2017, made a rare public appearance at the wedding in 2019, arriving alongside Queen Elizabeth at St George’s Chapel.

The Duke of Sussex was also at the wedding, attending just 12 days after the birth of Archie, his first son with wife Meghan Markle – and on the eve of their first wedding anniversary. 

The beaming bride arrived at St George’s chapel in a claret-coloured vintage car, accompanied by her father Prince Michael of Kent.

She stunned in an ivory lace gown by Italian designer Luisa Beccaria, featuring a bateau neckline, sheer embroidered sleeves and an A-line skirt.

Gabriella, known as Ella to her friends, wore a breathtaking six-metre long veil, which was arranged by the designer on the steps of the chapel.

She selected the Russian Fringe-style tiara, also worn by her grandmother, Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent, and mother, Princess Michael of Kent, on their wedding days.

The dazzling diamonds of the headpiece glittered beneath Lady Gabriella’s long white veil as she made her entrance at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.

Meanwhile, Thomas, who was a director of Devonport Capital, specialising in providing finance for companies in ‘frontier economies’, chose a classic morning suit for the big day.

The Bristol University graduate previously worked in Baghdad, Iraq, according to the Telegraph, working to procure the release of hostages after joining the Diplomatic Missions Unit of the Foreign Office.

His financial career credentials included roles at Voltan Capital Management and IDC Securities.

Thomas was a close friend of Pippa Middleton and the pair were seen out and about together on numerous occasions.

He attended her wedding to James Matthews in May 2017, accompanied by Lady Gabriella.

Lady Gabriella, who is a writer and contributing editor, had been dating Thomas for a number of years when he proposed on the island of Sark in 2018. 

Buckingham Palace later released details about the wedding service, with the hymns sung by the congregation including Tell Out My Soul, Be Thou My Vision and Love Divine, All Loves Excelling.

The readings were taken from Ecclesiastes III, Philippians IV, a passage from Shakespeare’s Love’s Labour’s Lost, and O Tell Me The Truth About Love, by WH Auden.

Flowers arrangements inside the chapel featured coral sunset peonies, coral and white roses, white hydrangea, white delphiniums, apricot stocks and seasonal flowers, as well as the creamy ivory ‘Ella’ rose, by David Austin, named after the bride. 

The charming cherry and apple blossom trees that stood outside St George’s were from Hillier Nurseries.

Isabella and Maud Windsor – Lady Gabriella’s nieces – and the other bridesmaids wore ivory dresses with blush underlays and sashes, completed with flower garlands.

The wedding reception was held at Frogmore House, where Harry and Meghan staged their wedding dinner, and the bride and groom cut a cake made by Fiona Cairns, who also made the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s cake. 

The three-tiered confection was crafted from three recipes: fruit cake, Victoria sponge and Limoncello sponge.

It featured pale blush icing, adorned with seasonal sugar flowers and a delicate leaf border, drawing inspiration from the exquisite fabric found within Frogmore House. 

Guests at the reception were served smoked Scottish salmon and asparagus risotto and canapes, as well as Caragh Chocolates from the Isle of Sark, where the couple were engaged. 

The beautiful flower displays at the reception were created by John Plested.

The wedding of Lady Gabriella Windsor and Thomas Kingston was the third at St George’s Chapel in less than a year – following the star-studded nuptials of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank.

His wife paid tribute to her financier husband in a joint statement with his family, describing him as an ‘exceptional man who lit up the lives of all who knew him’. His tragic death was described as a ‘great shock to the whole family’.

An inquest will be held to establish the cause of death but there are no suspicious circumstances and no other parties involved.

Lady Gabriella, who is not a working member of the Royal Family, released a personal photo she took of her husband, showing him smiling and dressed in a casual pink shirt as he stood near a stretch of water in the sunshine.

In a statement with Mr Kingston’s family, she said: ‘It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the death of Thomas Kingston, our beloved husband, son and brother.

‘Tom was an exceptional man who lit up the lives of all who knew him. His death has come as a great shock to the whole family and we ask you to respect our privacy as we mourn his passing.’

King Charles and Queen Camilla have sent their ‘most heartfelt thoughts and prayers’ to Lady Kingston and Mr Kingston’s family.

Mr Kingston was found dead at an address in Gloucestershire on Sunday evening, with emergency services called to the scene shortly after 6pm.

Relatives broke down in tears as council guards raided a suburban home and tranquilized an American Akita dog that mauled a man, sparking a furious row in the suburbs.

Video captured the moment the dog bite victim vowed revenge as he was wheeled away by paramedics after the attack on a house in Georges Hall, south-west Sydney, on Thursday evening.

Police were forced to intervene to separate two screaming groups as medics tried to rush the victim to hospital as he shouted: 'Watch out when I get out… watch out!'

“Pull the fuck up!”

Daily Mail Australia understands the man was attacked by a male American Akita, believed to be named Alex, belonging to the Adhami family, in the backyard of their home.

The dog was whisked away by park rangers – one touting a stun gun – in harrowing scenes that left the family visibly distraught on Friday.

Neighbors said the large, muscular husky-like dog with a thick woolly coat was rarely seen outside the house, but they often heard its deep, menacing bark.

“He once escaped through the front door and ran away,” a neighbor said. “I thought it was quite intimidating when I saw it, but it didn't amount to much.”

On Friday morning, community guards arrived with a stun gun and were led to the home's backyard, where the dog could be heard barking.

Moments later, the barking stopped and the stunned dog was carried on a stretcher by two men and placed in a trailer to be taken to the town hall.

The victim of the attack has not been named, but the 30-year-old man is said to have suffered deep bites to his left hand and left leg during the attack.

A 58-year-old woman was also bitten on the hand during the incident.

Tempers flared between the dog owner's family and bystanders as medics treated the victim at the bungalow at around 7.45pm before taking him to Liverpool Hospital.

“Stay the fuck away,” a woman in white shouted as another woman ran towards her.

The second woman, dressed in black, continued walking towards the woman in white until a man grabbed her arm and said, “Shut your damn mouth.” Quiet!'

A few police officers then squeezed between the two women and separated the groups again.

The woman in black kept shouting, “What was he [the dog] do it outside?

“Damn, know your place.”

As the man was taken away by paramedics, he again shouted at the bystanders and pointed his finger at them.

A woman shouted back, “Shut up. It is your fault.'

But he fired back again: 'Watch out when I get out, watch out. You're a stupid bitch.'

On Friday, neighbors watched silently as municipal guards collected the animal to take away.

A woman wearing fluffy slippers cried as she said goodbye to the dog who lay unconscious in the council car before it was driven away.

The family in the middle of the row was supported by their neighbor as the drama unfolded. They declined to comment, adding only: “It's too traumatic.”

A family member later told Daily Mail Australia: “There is no show. It's a personal matter.'

Other neighbors said they only saw the police cars and ambulances rushing to the scene and saw nothing of the dog attack.

“I didn't even see the dog,” said a neighbor. 'I just heard him barking, every day he barked. It sounded like a really big dog.”

Another said he saw the explosion between the dog's owners and the victim's relatives but didn't know the background to the incident, admitting: 'It got a little heated.

'We are quite private on this street and give each other space. We are all friendly and say hello to each other, but we don't interfere in each other's business.'

A spokesperson for Canterbury-Bankstown Council said their rangers were investigating the dog's future and had spoken to the dog's owner and neighbours.

The council confirmed that the male American Akita was microchipped but not registered with them.

“The dog has been voluntarily surrendered and transported to a shelter pending further investigation,” the spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.

'We have checked our records and there have been no reports of previous incidents involving this dog.

“We are working closely with the police and once the investigation is complete, appropriate action will be taken.”

The American Akita has a reputation for being a good family dog, but does not get along well with other dogs and is known to be cautious and aloof with strangers.

It was originally bred by the Japanese to hunt bears and its powerful jaws are said to be many times stronger than those of even an American pit bull.

He is bred for cold conditions with a very thick double coat and can weigh up to 60 kg.

Maisie Smith left fans seriously impressed when she shared before-and-after photos of her and Max George’s home transformation.

The actress, 22, moved in with The Wanted star, 35, early last year and the pair have been busy renovating their dream home ever since.

And Maisie took to TikTok and Instagram this week to give an insight into the home’s stunning transformation, as she shared a video of their flashy pad.

The images gave an insight into what the house previously looked like before Maisie revealed their hard work to transform the house into their dream space.

The video started with a look at the pre-renovation kitchen, with “old stained tiles,” “chipped vinyl floors” and wood cabinets.

Maisie then explained in a voiceover on Instagram that after ‘many failed restoration attempts’ they also had to remove the original black lounge floor in the living room.

She shared that they decided to knock down the wall between the two rooms to make it completely open, and then showed off the end result, leaving fans completely baffled.

The newly transformed living room had a much more modern look, with white walls and a black accent panel with a flash TV mounted on top.

The couple had decorated the space with sleek brown leather furniture and a glass coffee table, while their Christmas tree stood in a corner and lit up the room.

The camera panned around to show the now open space, which cut straight through to a dining area with a large wooden table with bench seating.

The table seemed set for their festive December celebrations as Christmas crackers were placed on each place setting, with Christmas lights lining the table runner.

From the dining room she walked straight to the open kitchen, which had a striking breakfast bar painted eggshell blue with four wooden stools.

All other kitchen panels were painted a fresh white color – ditching the previous baby pink look – while their double sink featured opulent gold taps.

In an accompanying caption, Maisie revealed that ‘blood, sweat and tears’ had gone into the home’s impressive transformation.

She wrote: ‘Blood. Sweat. Tears and some finishing touches… but we are so grateful for what we have achieved in this beautiful home.”

She added in an Instagram caption: ‘So grateful to start 2024 in our dream home and big thanks to @porcelainsuperstore for the beautiful floor. Stay tuned for the final finishing touches.”

Fans quickly took to the comments section to admire the stunning home makeover and shared their shock at the difference.

They wrote: ‘When I say my jaw dropped this is beautiful’… ‘Beautiful transformation, love the kitchen’… ‘This looks amazing’… ‘You and Max George did a fantastic job delivered with your new home!!’

Max and Maisie moved in together at the start of last year, with the EastEnders star’s mum Julia sharing a glimpse of her move out of the family home at the time.

In March Julia took to Instagram to post a montage clip of her daughter with her suitcase packed as she loaded up her £45,000 Audi.

Maisie could be seen gathering the last of her belongings as her dog Albert waited for her in the passenger seat of the car.

After climbing into the driver’s seat, Maisie turned and smiled before leaving Essex to live with her singer boyfriend Max in Manchester.

Julia captioned the montage video: “Moving day. Enjoy your new life in Manchester with Albert and Max,” adding: “Good luck in your new home,” with Maisie replying: “Feeling the nest [sic].’

Married At First Sight star Georges Bert hit his ‘rodent’ colleagues in an angry tirade on Wednesday.

The reality star, 30, took to his Instagram Story to answer a Q&A in which he appeared to take aim at co-stars Jordan Gayle and Erica Roberts.

The couple recently claimed in an interview that Georges and Peggy Lawrence’s relationship was fake.

A fan asked Georges in his Q&A: “Is your relationship with Peggy fake, as Jordan claims?”

Georges responded with rodent emojis, saying, “I won’t say much, but what I want to say to you is that if you believe a couple who only fought at the dinner table so they could get screen time, you’re being hypnotized.

Meanwhile, Georges wore a gray sweater and dark jeans as he packed on the PDA with his ‘wife’.

They showed those who doubted their relationship that they are back on track when they shared the kiss.

Erica and Jordan also criticized Laura Vaughan, who was paired with Arthur Poremba, saying she had only been on the show to become famous.

Jordan said: “Laura was actually on MAFS for an audition for Made in Chelsea. That’s the only reason she was there, and I think anyone can see through that.”

Erica added: ‘She can’t be on Made in Chelsea if she’s from Portsmouth and has never lived in London.’

The couple also criticized the way that was achieved in the show’s final edit, saying it was not an “accurate representation” and that they had been set up to fail by the producers.

Erica claimed that the couples were asked to express their opinions, but it was only hers and Jordan’s that were aired.

In a shocking moment in the show, Jordan became involved in a fight with Luke Worley after he banged on his front door and started waving at him – as Erica watched.

Luke, 30, who was linked to his now ex Jay Howard, was kicked off the show following the physical confrontation with Jordan, who has spoken about his past trauma with domestic abuse.

Jordan admitted that he felt like the producers stirred the pot between the two co-stars, saying that while “no one forced Luke to do what he did,” they always encouraged the drama and moved the pair toward pushed ‘story’. .

Speaking to MailOnline last week, Erica discussed the shocking scenes, explaining that it was ‘terrible’ to go through and saying they never expected Luke to show up at their door and start a fight , after weeks of tension between him and Jordan.

She said: ‘At the time that was horrible, it was horrible to deal with. I think when you come to a show like MAFS you never expect something like that to happen – to be honest, on any show, or even in normal life you would. Don’t expect anyone to come to your door banging and trying to fight you!

“So that was really shocking for both of us, but the fact that we had each other at that moment, I would say, was one of the hardest things for us as a couple, but the fact that we had each other made it so much better. ‘

Erica also revealed that the TV edit prevented viewers from fully seeing what had happened and said Jordan had felt unable to ‘defend’ himself in the scenes.

“The situation that happened on the show, the TV edit doesn’t really show what happened in full, but again, at that point, Jordan felt like he couldn’t defend himself because he was on the show,” she says. said.

Erica also talked about how she had ‘difficulty’ rewatching some of the show due to the lack of ‘context’ due to the time constraints of each episode, meaning not every conversation is shown on screen.

She continued, “I would say there’s quite a few things that are especially left unsaid, like I think there’s a lot of context missed on things in certain situations.

‘Of course there is much more going on than what the viewer sees. That’s one of the hardest things I struggled with watching it back because I was like, “Yeah, but there’s so much context missing” and it can give people the wrong idea, but that’s just TV.”

Erica and Jordan overcame their trials on the show and are now still together, and she insisted they have gone from “strength to strength” and are enjoying being a normal couple off-screen and plan to be together to move to Manchester.

The future king, 10, joined his sister Charlotte, eight, and brother Louis, four, at his mother Kate Middleton’s Together at Christmas carol concert on Friday evening at Westminster Abbey.

And fans we quick to point out how the young royal bears a striking resemblance to his father at the same age. 

Photos of the Prince of Wales aged 10 show the same smile and hair as young George.

‘Prince George looks so much like his father when Prince William was younger,’ said one.

‘ Prince George looks so much like Prince William,’ said another.

‘Some pics George looks like William and others, he looks like the Spencers,’ wrote another.

‘George and Charlotte look like William. Louis looks like Kate,’ wrote a fourth.

Kate hosted her Together At Christmas event at Westminster Abbey and welcomed her family, members of the monarchy and inspiring individuals in celebration of those supporting children and families.

The Prince of Wales arrived with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, after Kate travelled ahead to thank celebrities for agreeing to perform, including Oscar winner Jim Broadbent and singers Beverley Knight and Adam Lambert.

As they walked into the Abbey’s forecourt the royal children paused for a moment to post Christmas cards, in a special postbox, containing messages for children who might be struggling this Christmas, something open to all youngsters attending.

The young royals – George, 10, Charlotte, eight, and five-year-old Louis – were all smartly dressed while their mother wore a Chris Kerr coat.

Before the concert started Kate met celebrities in the Abbey’s stunning 16th century Lady Chapel, and chatting to Broadbent expressed her appreciation at him agreeing to read an extract from Letters From Father Christmas by Lord Of The Rings author JRR Tolkien.

 

She said: ‘Thank you for your time because I know the lead up to Christmas can be busy for people.’

Kate appeared to joke with multi-instrumentalist Collier, who has posted music tutorial videos on YouTube, about her daughter learning the piano and he quipped ‘many a plink and a plonk’.

She also walked around the Abbey before the event began, speaking to young people who have done inspiring activities.

Once inside, Kate stole the show as she led the royal family  and high-fived and spoke with children who have gone ‘above and beyond’ for charity.

Kate crouched down to chat to seven-year-old Oscar Burrow, from Lancaster, who raised more than £40,000 for Derian House Children’s Hospice in Chorley, Lancashire, by climbing 12 mountains at the age of six.

His mother Kimberley Burrow said afterwards: ‘She said she’d heard about what he’s done and he’s doing a fantastic job, and hopes what he’s doing will inspire other children to do amazing things.’

The princess was joined at her annual Christmas carol service by Prince William and children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. 

The Royal children were seen stepping in to the event at Westminster Abbey – while five-year-old Prince Louis once again drew attention by blowing out his sister’s candle and chatting to a statue outside.

Kate walked around the Abbey before the concert started speaking to young people who have done inspiring activities.

She knelt down and spent time speaking with seven-year-old Oscar.

The princess placed her hand on a chair and the other in her lap as she discussed his impressive fundraising efforts, watched on by his smiling mother. 

She chatted to four scouts from the 3rd Upton Scout Group in Slough her family visited during the coronation celebration weekend, part of The Big Help Out event, helping to renovate their hut.

The princess told them: ‘It was really inspiring. Seriously, good job’. She then high-fived each scout in turn.

Kate, who was dressed all in white for the occasion, was pictured bending down to light Prince Louis’ candle with her own.

At one point she was seen placing a reassuring hand on his back as he appeared to clutch at her coat amidst the gravity of the evening. 

As she arrived at the concert, she was seen holding Princess Charlotte’s hand. 

Among the group of celebrities waiting to greet the family in the Abbey’s Lady Chapel were singers Beverley Knight and Adam Lambert, musician Jacob Collier and actor Jim Broadbent.

Catherine’s sister Pippa and husband James Matthews were also photographed arriving this afternoon, as were Lady Sarah Chatto and her husband Daniel Chatto.

The Princess herself unveiled a very special festive gift to guests at the concert – a rendition of Last Christmas played on John Lennon’s piano.

The service began with the popular carol, Once In Royal David’s City, and the congregation also heard a duet by Beverley Knight and Adam Lambert who performed The Christmas Song, made famous by Nat King Cole.

William read the passage from the Gospel according to Luke that describes how Joseph and Mary travelled to Bethlehem to be registered and the birth of Jesus.

The Abbey echoed with the voices of its choir and the congregation singing a selection of carols including Silent Night, Holy Night and Joy To The World, as well as Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.

The historic building featured Christmas trees from Windsor Great Park donated by the King, which will be given to local communities after the service.

The event will be broadcast as part of Royal Carols: Together At Christmas, a special programme airing at 7.45pm on ITV1 and ITV X on Christmas Eve, featuring additional material including an introduction by Kate and films emphasising the importance of early childhood.

The broadcast will include contributions from Rio and Kate Ferdinand, Ugo Monye, Andrea and Virginia Bocelli and Dame Sheila Hancock.
