Anthony Albanese has clashed again with young Greens MP Max Chandler-Mather as the national housing crisis returns to the political conversation.

The Prime Minister worked with Agriculture Minister Murray Watt to take down the Greens amid a war of words over the government’s proposed ‘Help to Buy’ legislation.

As Mr Albanese and Greens spokesman Mr Chandler-Mather reignited their long-standing feud in the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Mr Watt reminded Australians of the party’s hypocrisy in the Senate.

“I’m not surprised that Mr Dutton and the coalition said no to this program because that’s what they always say,” he said.

“But I was surprised to see the Greens once again say no to helping Australians buy their own homes, especially when so many have had taxpayers help them buy their own homes.”

Anthony Albanese is feuding again with young Greens MP Max Chandler-Mather (circled) as the national housing crisis returns to the political conversation

His comments drew immediate interjections, but he then singled out both Senator Nick McKim and Senator Mehreen Faruqi, claiming they “each own four houses.”

“Or Senator Allman-Payne, who owns two houses,” he added.

“Labour wants to help young Australians buy just one home.”

Mr McKim hit back, saying: ‘That’s not true, that’s a lie.’

‘That is a lie. Be honest and truthful,” he said, pointing his finger at Mr. Watt.

Daily Mail Australia understands Mr McKim, who is also party chairman, owns three properties in his home state of Tasmania.

It is believed to be a ‘hut’, along with a property in Nubeena, south-west of Hobart, and another house in New Norfolk, north-west of Hobart.

The Tasmanian senator made it clear in May 2023 that he was only renting out one of the properties.

“There have been quite a few wild reactions to this topic, so to be clear, my partner and I only have one rental property,” he said.

“Our tenant is a disabled family member who would otherwise likely be homeless due to the major parties’ dismal inability to tackle the rental crisis.

“We recognize the privilege that makes this possible, and we feel comfortable with our decision to provide a safe, affordable home to someone close to us who desperately needed one.” And yes, the rent is frozen.’

He also clarified that the other house listed as an “investment” was farmland – “a pasture that we are rewilding.”

Ms. Faruqi was outwardly less outraged by Mr. Watt’s allegations.

Faruqi, with her husband Omar Faruqi, owns a Beaconsfield terrace in Sydney’s south, a private home in the same area and a house in Port Macquarie on the New South Wales north coast.

She also owns a 500 sqm plot of land in Lahore, Pakistan.

Penny Allman-Payne, a Greens senator for Queensland, rents out a four-bedroom house in Cleveland, east of Brisbane, and has another property, her main residence, in Gladstone.

But the party’s housing spokesman, Mr Chandler-Mather, is a renter and, like many other young people, has also struggled to break into the housing market.

On Tuesday he questioned the Prime Minister about the government’s response to the Reserve Bank review.

“The Greens have opposed the government’s proposal to strip its power to protect tenants and mortgage holders from unreasonable interest rate rises,” he said.

“Former Prime Minister Keating and two former RBA Governors publicly agree with us that major political decisions such as rate hikes require political accountability.

“Will you admit that your government was wrong when it tried to give up its power to override unreasonable interest rate increases and support the Greens’ amendment to the bill?”

The question prompted an immediate reprimand from Mr Albanese.

He said: ‘What is surprising here is not that the Greens political party is taking that position; it is that some in the Liberal Party say they will support you on that too.

“Senator McKim has shown with his pointed comments from the sidelines that he knows nothing about how the RBA functions and that he does not understand the review.

“This just shows that it’s all about political posturing and opportunism. If you want to side with the Greens, you can wear that.

“We expect economic irresponsibility from them, but we expect something better from mainstream political parties.”

Confronting CCTV footage has emerged of the horrific moment a car plowed into Queensland Greens MP Amy MacMahon's hybrid vehicle at high speed in front of shocked bystanders, leaving her with serious head and back injuries.

The accident occurred at around 6.30pm on Monday when the South Brisbane MP's Toyota Prius was struck by a Hyundai i30 at the intersection of Baines Street and Main Street in Kangaroo Point, inner city Brisbane.

Images of the incident obtained by The courier postlet Dr. MacMahon slowly drove away from the lights when the Hyundai, which was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed, appeared to drive straight through the intersection.

The Hyundai crashed into the front of the Toyota Prius, causing it to spin 180 degrees into a lamp post.

Debris was immediately spread across the road as the Hyundai, which had a completely crumpled front end, rammed into oncoming traffic before coming to a stop out of harm's way.

The collision occurred near the intersection of Main and Baines streets in Kangaroo Point

Although there is no audio in the footage, bystanders can be seen suddenly floating around at the moment of impact, with one later describing the sound as “like a bomb going off.”

Dr. MacMahon was treated by paramedics at the scene and rushed to Princess Alexandra Hospital, where she is in stable but serious condition.

Dr. MacMahon was traveling between two community activities at the time, according to her office, which provided an update Tuesday afternoon.

“She was serving food at the Greens' free community dinner in Raymond Park and was on her way to another community event when the crash occurred,” the post began.

“We can tell you that Amy is in a stable but serious condition. Her injuries are not life-threatening and she is receiving excellent care in hospital.

'It will be a few days before we know the full picture, but at this stage we know Amy is responding. She is being assessed by the specialists to monitor how she is doing.

“We are overwhelmed by the wonderful wishes and concerns for Amy, and we are so grateful for all the support from the community.

“Given how serious this accident was, we are very grateful that the outcome was not worse.”

Dr. MacMahon is surrounded by family and friends as her road to recovery begins.

“Her office remains open and continues to do the work the community needs. The door is always open,” the post ended.

It is unknown how long her recovery will take.

Her Greens colleagues were shocked after seeing the confrontational images.

“It's quite moving to see and it gives a clearer picture of how serious the incident was,” said fellow Greens MP Michael Berkman.

“We know she is receiving good care (and) that she is in the best possible place she could be, and while all relevant specialists continue to treat her condition, we will just play it by ear,” he said.

“Anyone who knows Amy knows how eager she is to serve more free community dinners and fight for her community again as soon as possible,” Berkman said.

The occupants of the Hyundai – a woman in her 20s and a man in his 30s – were taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in stable conditions.

The Queensland Police Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

The busy intersection near the popular Pineapple Hotel was cordoned off for several hours while emergency responders cleared the scene.

Local residents recalled hearing the impact of the accident two blocks away.

Queensland Premier Steven Miles said emergency services had taken “great care” of Dr MacMahon and he wished her a speedy recovery.

“On behalf of the government, I want Amy and her family to know that we are all thinking of her,” he said Monday evening.

“I know our police and paramedics have taken great care of her and that PA Hospital is the best place in the world for her.”

Just hours before the crash, Dr MacMahon (right) reiterated calls for Prime Minister Miles to scrap the demolition and reconstruction of the Gabba for the 2032 Olympics.

Just hours before the crash, Dr MacMahon (right) reiterated calls for Prime Minister Miles to scrap the demolition and reconstruction of the Gabba for the 2032 Olympics.

Just hours before the crash, South Brisbane MP had called on Premier Miles to scrap the demolition and reconstruction of the Gabba for the 2032 Olympics.

She has been an outspoken opponent of the project and hosted a community forum on Saturday.

“The message from our community was crystal clear: we will not stop until the Prime Minister says he is calling off the Gabba rebuild, and that East Brisbane State School and Raymond Park are protected,” the MP wrote on Monday.

'The community doesn't want it. The vice president of the International Olympic Committee says this is incorrect. The president of the Australian Olympic Committee says there are better solutions. Even an old Labor Prime Minister has spoken out against it.'

Dr. MacMahon became the first female Greens MP elected to the Queensland Parliament in 2020 when she dethroned then Deputy Prime Minister Jackie Trad.

In November, she became the first MP in almost a decade to be suspended from parliament for a day for “willful disobedience” to an order.

Independent Senator Jacqui Lambie has criticized Labor and the Greens over their industrial relations bill.

She has accused Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and minor party leader Adam Bandt of failing to support a female-led union branch.

The Tasmanian politician held an emotionally charged conference in Canberra on Thursday, criticizing Prime Minister and Greens leader Adam Bandt for bowing to CFMEU Victorian Secretary of State John Setka.

The Senate will vote on the industrial relations bill – which includes a controversial “right to disconnect” or reject calls from bosses after hours – on Thursday.

Mr Albanese and Industrial Relations Minister Tony Burke have the support of the Greens and independent senators David Pocock and Lidia Thorpe.

Independent senator Jacqui Lambie has put the Labor government and the Greens in the spotlight in a fiery speech demanding more support for a women-led organization

Senator Lambie will not support the bill, citing ongoing concerns about small and medium-sized businesses – and an issue she has with the CFMEU.
She said Labor and the Greens should back an amendment allowing a secret ballot for the Textiles, Clothing and Footwear Union to split from CFMEU Victoria.

“(CFMEU chief) John Setka is leading the Labor Party,” Ms Lambie fumed.

'It's sad that the Greens allowed John Setka to infiltrate Adam Bandt's office. I want every Green voter to know that.'

She said neither party can claim to be “pro-women” unless they pass her amendment to the government's Industrial Relations Bill.

“Give these women their rights,” Senator Lambie said, “or every time I walk into that room I will remind you that you are not standing up for women's rights. You don't care about women.

'Where is Katy Gallagher (Minister for Women)?'

Jenny Kruschel, secretary of the union, said female members and staff felt “unsafe” around the CFMEU.

“We had to move our division out of the building and it's a very uncomfortable environment,” Ms. Kruschel said.

Ms Lambie said the Government had refused to approve the secret ballot, leaving her questioning whether Mr Setka was 'running the Labor Party'.

“You women do not dare to stand up and talk about women's rights in that room, because from today your credibility has been destroyed in my eyes.

“You're a disgrace, an absolute disgrace.”

Ms Lambie said thousands of women are part of this union, many of whom come from non-English speaking backgrounds.

She said they are entitled to a secret ballot to control the future of the union.

Ms Lambie said the government has 'two hours to come back to your party room and think about that again, to support this amendment.'

Ms Lambie sought to table amendments to allow the CFMEU's production arm, TCFU, to hold a secret ballot to split from the main body

Ms Lambie sought to table amendments to allow the CFMEU's production arm, TCFU, to hold a secret ballot to split from the main body

She accused the government of withdrawing its request out of fear that the Greens would withdraw their support for the IR bills.

Ms Lambie also issued an additional, direct warning to Mr Bandt about his future as leader of the party.

“There have been murmurs about your leadership for a long time,” she said.

“Maybe it's time you took that muttering seriously.”

Speaking in the Senate, Ms Lambie said of her amendment: 'Who here in good conscience could vote against these women?

“If your party tells you to vote against this amendment, I want you to think about how you will feel about betraying these women.

“All the passionate speeches I've heard here about domestic violence, how women should be empowered to take control of their lives, did you mean them and stand by your words for these women?”

“If God forbid, after everything that's happened here in the last three or four years, you don't stand up for these women, your credibility will just go down the drain.”

New Delhi: Pakistan bowling coach Morne Morkel resigned on Monday after bowing out of the Men in Green group stage in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. With four wins from nine matches, Pakistan finished fifth in the points table behind India, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. . This was the third time in a row that Pakistan exited the group stages in the ODI World Cups.

“Morne Morkel has resigned as the bowling coach of the Pakistan men’s team. The former South African fast bowler joined the Pakistan team on a six-month contract in June this year,” the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in a press release.

“Morkel’s first assignment with the men’s team was their tour to Sri Lanka for the two-match Test series. Pakistan Cricket Board will announce his replacement in due course. Pakistan’s next assignment is a three-match Test series against Australia, which will take place from December 14, 2023 to January 7, 2024 in Australia,” it added.

After making a cameo in season 2 of Southern hospitalitywhat the cast has ideas about Taylor-Ann Green and her new boyfriend, Gaston.

“We love Gaston. He is cool,” Bradley Carter told exclusively We weekly at BravoCon on Saturday, November 4, teasing “there’s definitely a little crossover moment” with 28-year-old Taylor, who regularly stars Southern charm.

Southern hospitality star Grace Lilley hinted that Taylor’s new man “has been there,” so they all met him while working at Republic Garden & Lounge. When asked if Gaston has “been around… in a bad way,” Grace, 25, played coy.

However, Bradley admitted, “Taylor has a type, and she likes the men who have been there.” He was apparently referring to Taylor’s ex-boyfriend Shep Rosewho is known in Charleston, South Carolina, as a ladies’ man.

Taylor and Shep, 43, split in July 2022 and she later accused him of cheating on her during their relationship. Shep has since apologized for hurting Taylor. Taylor exclusively told Us in October that she made her relationship with Gaston “official” about a month earlier, after they started “talking” in late July.

Even though he has confirmed that Gaston knows the ladies, Bradley said Us on Saturday: “I’m not going to say there’s a running red flag.” Instead, he emphasized that Gaston is a “cool guy” and a “nice” person.

The Southern hospitality cast knows Gaston because he is their costar TJ Dinch‘s roommate. However, according to him, that closeness has not made Gaston everyone’s favorite person Joe Bradley who told Us Saturday that the two men “had a crossover with some girls.”

While his costar Maddi Reese claimed Joe, 27, had “a little Gaston drama,” Joe said Us that was “not really” the case.

“I like the guy, but [the past drama] it’s more about a girl, and I’m not the kind of guy a guy is going to fight over [a] girl,” Joe explained. “Charleston is getting messy. There’s a reason there are two shows in a small town.”

“I want the best for her. I feel like she seems really happy and in a better place, and I love Taylor,” said Maddi, 26, while Joe called Taylor a “salt of the earth” girl and “an amazing person.”

Grace told me Us she wants Taylor to “be happy,” and Bradley agreed. “That’s all that matters. If your friends are happy, we are happy too,” he added.

Germany’s Green Party entered government in 2021 with the best election results in its history, establishing itself for the first time as a truly mainstream party with the potential to even produce a chancellor one day.

It captured five cabinet positions in the three-party coalition, including the powerful economy and foreign ministries. It appeared to have a strong mandate to promote the country’s economic transition to a greener future.

What a difference two years make. And a Russian invasion of Ukraine. And rising energy costs. And a host of missteps, admitted by some even within the party, have stalled the Greens’ momentum.

Today, the Greens are widely seen as an obstacle to the government of Social Democratic Chancellor Olaf Scholz. poll gave only a 19 percent approval rating. The Greens have come under scathing attacks from even their own coalition partners. In the eyes of their opponents, the Greens have overstepped their agenda and become the face of an excessive environmental elitism that has alienated many voters and sent masses to the far right.

In the key state elections this month, all parties in the governing coalition took a beating, but the Green Party came under special attack as populists and the far right were on the rise.

“They have turned the Greens into public enemy No. 1,” said Sudha David-Wilp, director of the Berlin office of the German Marshall Fund, a research institute.

The reversal of fortune for the Greens is the story of a party that has long struggled to transcend its roots as a niche, environmentalist party and become a more pragmatic political force capable of broader appeal to lead the country.

Founded in 1980, the Greens built their base by taking a relatively tough stance on environmental issues and climate change. Previously, their peak was as a coalition partner in the government of Chancellor Gerhard Schröder from 1998 to 2005.

But in Scholz’s government, which also includes the pro-business Free Democrats, the green presence has been more important, and the party’s stumbles are raising questions about whether Germany’s economy, Europe’s largest, can progress toward of its ambitious climate goals.

The Greens have the high-profile portfolio of Foreign Secretary, led by Annalena Baerbock, 42. They also have the important Ministry of Economy and Climate Action, led by Robert Habeck.

Mr. Habeck, 54, who has a doctorate in literary sciences and has written novels, political books and stories for young adults, was once one of the country’s most popular politicians. But he has seen his position decline along with that of his party. Today, the Greens are polling at around 14 percent, about what they achieved in the last national election, but well below the better ratings of their first months in power.

Mr. Habeck declined an interview request. But in comments to German media, he admitted that he misjudged the atmosphere of crisis fatigue in the country after a winter of dealing with rising energy prices in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“The feeling of great time pressure has disappeared; Instead of the fear of a loss of gas supplies, other concerns have emerged.” he told the newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. “This change wasn’t very clear to me at first, and maybe that’s why I didn’t do everything right in the situation.”

Initially, Mr. Habeck and the Greens achieved significant success, pushing for an aggressive stance against Russia. They were instrumental in approving a popular €49 unlimited ride ticket to encourage people to take public transport and in implementing changes to encourage people investments in green energy.

They also skillfully helped steer Germany away from its dependence on Russian natural gas. The government has limited temperatures in public buildings to save energy. It reopened coal-fired power stations. And it quickly built terminals so that Germany could import gas from sources other than Russia.

These steps were welcomed by Germans as pragmatic and somewhat unexpected from a party traditionally committed to phasing out fossil fuels in the long term.

“The Greens were on their way to becoming a party of the political center,” said Manfred Güllner, director of the Berlin-based Forsa Institute, a polling firm. “Now the Greens are back exactly where they were for a long time: a small party that focuses on its supporters and is far from a major party.”

What was pragmatic for many Germans was seen by many members of the Greens as a betrayal of the party’s long-cherished principles.

Now that the Greens have returned to their traditional agenda, the party is reaching the limits of what many Germans are willing to sacrifice at a time of economic uncertainty due to the war in Ukraine, higher inflation and the lingering effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. pandemic. .

The shine began to wear off, Mr. Güllner said, as the Greens fought against allowing nuclear power plants to run beyond a previously agreed deadline for their closure. But Exhibit A, which shows voters’ disillusionment, was a bill Mr. Habeck promoted that would require newly installed home heating systems to run on at least 65 percent renewable energy starting next year.

The mainstream conservative opposition, the Christian Democrats, attacked the heating law, or Heizungsgesetz, as climate policy “with a crowbar.” The tabloid Bild called it ‘Habecks Heiz-Hammer’ or ‘Habeck’s heating hammer’. The Greens were easily caricatured as a party oblivious to the people’s struggles.

“They squandered a lot of their success because they seemed to distance themselves from ordinary people,” said Markus Ziener, a visiting scholar at the German Marshall Fund. “Rather than providing incentives, they were seen as telling people what is right and wrong, and lecturing people.”

Experts say the law, which was passed in a watered-down form in September, has contributed to the growing popularity of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, which is polling at more than 20 percent, about the highest in its history.

Like other far-right parties across Europe, the AfD has added opposition to climate policy to its agenda, in addition to issues such as immigration, in an attempt to capitalize on the economic concerns of working people.

“What happened with the Heizungszettez was that the Greens suddenly literally knocked on people’s doors and asked: ‘Show me your heating, and it has to change,’” says Andrea Römmele, a political scientist at the Hertie School in Berlin. “It went too fast.”

Omid Nouripour, one of the co-chairs of the Greens, said the party could cope with recent setbacks and that it had come a long way from the years when it reached single digits and seemed stuck in permanent opposition.

The problems should not make the Greens hesitate, he emphasized. “We can’t slow down,” he said in an interview. “It has always been a difficult match.”

Other Greens also said they did not view the recent experience as a crisis, although they acknowledged the need to reach beyond the party’s traditional voters, who tend to be better educated and financially comfortable.

“The most important thing will be – the challenging, but also the beautiful – is to convince people who don’t yet think like us,” said Katrin Göring-Eckardt, the party’s longtime leader from East Germany. who is now Deputy Speaker of Parliament.

Some say the Greens can still bounce back. Bernd Ulrich, a journalist at the newspaper Die Zeit who is writing a book on green politics, said Mr Habeck in particular would be crucial to whether the party could restore its status.

“It is the deepest crisis in the history of the Greens,” he said. “Robert Habeck is by far the most talented politician in Germany. He has become a scapegoat. But he can get them over it.”

Tragedy: The sister of reality star (pictured above) Catie King shared the sad news via her Instagram page on Monday.

The devastating news comes five months after another Southern Charm star, Olivia Flowers, lost her 32-year-old brother Conner.

Conner’s death came after a years-long battle with Lyme disease, as well as a turbulent past that included arrests for drug offenses and drunk driving.

Worth’s obituary described him as an “adventurer” with a “love of travel” who taught English while living in South Korea after college.

He was hailed as a “protector and a cheerleader” to his two younger sisters and “a wonderful example of how to live life to the fullest.”

The obituary stated that the deceased had “recently formed a small men’s group in Raleigh to reflect on life and challenge each other’s faith in Christ.”

Commenting on Catie’s Instagram post, Taylor Ann’s ex Thomas Ravenel wrote that Worth was “Absolutely one of a kind.” A pleasure to know and to laugh with.’

The heartbreaking news of Worth’s death comes at an already difficult time for his family, as Catie recently battled a recurrence of cancer.

‘Almost 5 years ago my older sister was diagnosed with 2 different types of ovarian cancer; she was a fucking warrior and kicked it after a few months of holistic treatment,” Taylor Ann wrote on Instagram last month.

“We were so excited for her and her husband to hopefully have the chance to start a family, but here we are 4 and a half years later and it has decided to rear its ugly head again. Really F your cancer,” she wrote.
