Nottingham Forest have been given a four-point deduction after breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSRs).

Forest were referred to an independent committee in January after the club reported losses that exceeded the allowed amount during the three-year reporting cycle ending in the 2022-2023 season.

Under the guidelines, they could have been fined or deducted points for the breach, and their four-point deduction now sees them drop to 18th in the Premier League.

All Premier League clubs are assessed every year on their compliance with the league’s profitability and sustainability rules.

Under the PSR, clubs can lose a maximum of £105 million over three seasons (or £35 million per season), but certain costs can be deducted, such as investments in youth development, infrastructure, community and women’s football.

Het is de eerste verkiezingstest voor de heer Miles, die eind vorig jaar mevrouw Palaszczuk opvolgde na zijn plotselinge aftreden, vóór de staatsverkiezingen van 26 oktober.

LNP-staatsleider David Crisafulli was zaterdag ook aanwezig bij de hustings in Inala en Ipswich West.

In Inala moest LNP-kandidaat Darren Zanow een marge van 14,3 procent overwinnen om de overwinning in het Labour-bolwerk te behalen.

De LNP en One Nation hadden elkaar de voorkeur gegeven op hun stemkaarten.

Zaterdag werd er ook gestemd voor de verkiezingen voor alle 77 gemeenteraden.

Burgemeester Adrian Schrinner van Brisbane zal naar verwachting zijn baan behouden, maar er worden voorspellingen gedaan van een ‘Greens-slide’, waarbij de kleine partij naar verwachting een aantal van de 26 afdelingen in de gemeenteraad van Brisbane zal overnemen.

Tom Tate zal naar verwachting ook een nieuwe termijn krijgen als burgemeester van de Gold Coast, terwijl voormalig liberaal parlementslid Andrew Laming zich kandidaat stelt voor het burgemeesterschap van Redland City.

Vijftien raden hebben burgemeesters zonder tegenstand, waaronder de voormalige LNP-leider Lawrence Springborg in Goondiwindi. Nog eens 21 gemeenten zullen nieuwe burgemeesters hebben na de pensionering van de zittende bestuurders.

Een ander voormalig federaal parlementslid, George Christenson, stelt zich kandidaat voor een raadsbaan in de stad Mackay in het centrum van Queensland.

Ondertussen zijn er klachten geweest over lange wachtrijen bij een aantal stemhokjes in de staat.

Een woordvoerder van ECQ zei dat de meeste wachtrijen ’15 minuten of minder’ waren.

‘Ons team heeft bevestigd dat we vanmiddag bij twee stembureaus de stembiljetten moesten aanvullen, en dat de stembiljetten veilig werden afgeleverd voordat de voorraad bij een klein aantal andere stemhokjes was uitgeput’, aldus de woordvoerder.

‘Personeel wordt aan elke stand toegewezen op basis van de verwachte opkomst, die wordt geanalyseerd met behulp van gegevens van recente verkiezingen in Queensland en federale verkiezingen.’

Annastacia Palaszczuk heeft de vrouw van wie ze hoopt dat ze haar zal vervangen, ‘hetzelfde advies gegeven dat mijn vader mij gaf’ toen ze haar tussentijdse verkiezingsstem uitbracht.

De voormalige premier maakte zaterdagmiddag een zeldzame publieke verschijning bij de stembus met Labour-kandidaat Margie Nightingale en zei dat de dag over een ‘nieuw begin’ ging.

‘Ik ga haar hetzelfde advies geven als mijn vader mij gaf, en dat is: wie bij je binnenkomt, komt daar altijd met een reden en om iedereen met respect te behandelen en om ervoor te zorgen dat je echt luistert, want ze hebben kom naar je toe voor hulp’, zei ze tegen het ABC.

‘Dus als Margie dat doet, zal ze een heel, heel goed lokaal lid zijn.’

Mevrouw Palaszczuk trok zich eind vorig jaar op haar eigen voorwaarden terug uit de politiek, na maanden van speculatie over haar leiderschap.

De tussentijdse verkiezingen van zaterdag zullen de eerste keer in meer dan 30 jaar zijn dat Inala niet zal worden bekleed door iemand met de achternaam Palaszczuk.

De zetel was sinds de oprichting in 1992 in handen van haar vader, Henry. Ze nam de erfenis over toen ze in 2006 de politieke arena betrad.

Mevrouw Nightingale, een voormalige lerares, zei dat ze zich zou concentreren op ‘vooruitgang’ als ze zou winnen.

‘Ik zal ernaar kijken om dat te doen en ik begrijp wat deze gemeenschap nodig heeft en ik ben bereid om te luisteren en ik ben echt klaar om het harde werk te doen’, vertelde de hoopvolle aan het ABC.

Mevrouw Palaszczuk was niet de enige spraakmakende bezoeker op het campagnespoor.

Mevrouw Nightingale werd bij de hustings ook vergezeld door penningmeester Cameron Dick en premier Steven Miles.

Het paar lachte toen ze poseerden voor foto’s met Noodles, de hond, buiten de Inala State School.

De strijd om Inala, waar Labour een marge van 28,2 procent heeft, is slechts een van de twee tussentijdse verkiezingen die zaterdag in Queensland worden gehouden.

Zowel Inala als Ipswich West – naar aanleiding van het ontslag van Labour-leider Jim Madden om zich kandidaat te stellen voor de gemeenteraad – bevinden zich diep in het traditionele Labour-hart.

Ipswich West is in handen van Labour met een marge van 14,2 procent.

Er wordt reikhalzend uitgekeken naar beide resultaten als een eerste graadmeter voor de positie van het electoraat in de aanloop naar de algemene verkiezingen in oktober.

Premier Anthony Albanese zei dat een omslag in de twee tussentijdse verkiezingen niet noodzakelijkerwijs het begin van het einde voor Miles zou betekenen.

‘We zullen afwachten wanneer de verkiezingen in oktober plaatsvinden. Ik verwacht dat er bij de verkiezingen van vandaag een omslag zal plaatsvinden van de regering’, zei de heer Albanese.

‘Normaal gesproken gebeurt dat bij verkiezingen, maar ik denk dat mensen vóór oktober de LNP in Queensland van heel dichtbij zullen bekijken.’

Voorafgaand aan de opening van de stembureaus bleek uit een door de Australiër gepubliceerde Newspoll dat de LNP-oppositie na de voorkeuren 54 tot 46 procent voor lag op Labour.

Als dit bij de algemene verkiezingen in oktober wordt herhaald, zou dit resulteren in een verlies van 18 Labour-zetels – vier meer dan de LNP nodig heeft om een ​​meerderheid te behalen.

Staatsoppositieleider David Crisafulli zei dat kwesties als jeugdcriminaliteit en wachttijden voor operaties en eigenwoningbezit bovenaan de agenda van de mensen staan.

‘Als ik kijk naar de uitdagingen waarmee de inwoners van Queensland worden geconfronteerd, zie ik zaken als de jeugdcriminaliteitscrisis die uit de hand loopt, ik zie zaken als een gezondheidszorgsysteem waarin mensen buitensporig lang wachten op een operatie en het uit de hand lopen van ambulances, ‘ De heer Crisafulli vertelde Sky News.

‘Je hebt een generatie jonge Queenslanders die niet geloven dat ze ooit hun huis zullen bezitten – we hebben het laagste percentage eigenwoningbezit in het land.

De heer Miles heeft eerder gezegd dat het ‘zeer, zeer uitdagend’ zou zijn als Labour voor een vierde termijn zou worden herkozen.

De staat is de thuisbasis van de twee grootste lokale raden van Australië, Brisbane en de Gold Coast.

Gesteund door hun succes bij de federale verkiezingen van 2022, spelen de Groenen voor Brisbane City.

LNP-burgemeester Adrian Schrinner zal naar verwachting de topfunctie van Brisbane behouden, ondanks uitdagingen van Labour’s Tracey Price en het spraakmakende Groenen-raadslid Jonathan Sriranganathan.

Aan de Gold Coast wordt verwacht dat Tom Tate zal terugkeren als burgemeester, een functie die hij sinds 2012 bekleedt.

Zittend raadslid Ryan Bayldon-Lumsden streeft naar herverkiezing, ondanks een aanklacht wegens moord.

Minstens 1.010.000 inwoners van Queensland hadden al hun stem uitgebracht voorafgaand aan de lokale regeringsverkiezingen van zaterdag, waarbij ongeveer 235.000 van de 440.000 stemmen per post woensdag terugkwamen.

De kiescommissie van Queensland zei dat 3,65 miljoen mensen zich hadden ingeschreven om te stemmen, wat neerkomt op 97,6 procent van de staatsbevolking die stemgerechtigd is.

Ongeveer 45 procent van de inwoners van Queensland had vroeg gestemd in ongeveer 170 centra voor vroegstemmen over de hele staat.

De stemhokjes gingen om 8.00 uur open en het tellen begint om 18.00 uur, wanneer de stembureaus sluiten.
