What is the Model Code of Conduct?

The Model Code of Conduct is the Election Commission’s guidelines to regulate political parties and candidates prior to elections. The rules range from issues related to speeches, election days, polling booths, portfolios, content of election manifestos, processions and general conduct, so that free and fair elections are held.

Election Commission announces election dates:

The seven-phase Lok Sabha polls, the world’s largest electoral exercise, will start on April 19. The counting of votes will take place on June 4, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi makes a bid for a third consecutive term.

Announcing the election manifesto on Saturday, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that over 97 crore voters (49.7 crore men and 47.1 crore women) were eligible to cast their votes in the voting process spread over 44 days and in 10.5 lakh polling booths.

The elections will begin on April 19, followed by subsequent phases on April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25 and June 1, Kumar said at a press conference.

In the previous general election in 2019, there were a total of 91.2 crore eligible voters, of which 61.5 crore – 67.4 percent – ​​exercised their franchise.

Kumar said the aim was to improve the voting percentage in these elections and improve the record of conducting peaceful and fair elections with almost zero re-elections.

The Election Commission is doing everything it can to increase turnout and has plans to reach voters over the age of 85 at home to help them cast their votes. Similar facilities will be available to persons with disabilities of more than 40 percent.

The model code of conduct came into effect with the announcement of the elections.

“It is our commitment to conduct national elections in a way that we…remain a beacon for democracy around the world,” Kumar said.

Louis Walsh was up to his old tricks on Wednesday night’s episode as he took shots at even more celebrities after a series of scathing rants.

The Celebrity Big Brother star, 71, left viewers in shock as he made more comments about his showbiz cohorts on the outside, leaving them wondering if he will have any friends left when he leaves the house.

Louis’ comments were aimed at Take That’s Mark Owen and Jason Orange as he revealed his views on the singers to friend Sharon Osbourne.

Sharon had said she thought ‘all the members of Take That’ were ‘good people’, before Louis spoke out about what he thought of the band.

The music manager said he thought Mark, 52, ‘looked old’, while also questioning why Jason, 53, left the band as he ‘didn’t have to do much’.

Louis said, ‘What happened to Jason? He was a nice guy. He was just gone. Poof! I don’t know why he left, all he had to do was dance a little bit.’

Clearly amused by Louis’ look, Sharon scoffed and repeated, “A little dancing!”

Louis clarified, “That’s all he had to do. He was not a singer. Gary and Mark covered the vocals. Mark has grown very old.’

Viewers took to X to share their thoughts on Louis’ constant comments about celebrities he knows on the outside.

One person said: ‘Louis making comments to Take That hurts my inner child.’

While others commented on his increasing number of rants, they said: ‘Louis manages to build the largest army against him #CBBUK #CBB.’

“Louis is giving me more and more migraines as the days go by. He just loves talking about other people and X Factor. Give it a break!’

It comes after reports that Louis is set to quit Celebrity Big Brother after his good friend Sharon left the house.

It’s claimed the X Factor judge made it clear he wouldn’t sign up for the show without Sharon – meaning he’s now at risk.

Sharon spent a week in the house as ‘Celebrity Lodger’ and went home for the live show on Tuesday evening. It is believed she was paid £500,000 for the stint.

If Louis leaves, he will reportedly still receive his full fee, which is believed to be as much as six figures.

A source said The sun about his possible departure: ‘Louis would only go on the show if Sharon was booked there with him. CBB has done everything it can to make this possible.

“They know Louis is a flight risk now that Sharon is gone and no one would be surprised if he left. Louis still gets his full fee, so he has nothing to lose.

‘Without Sharon he will be lost because they have such a close friendship. Everyone is keen for Louis to throw in the towel, but he makes such good television that the producers are praying he will stay.’

Louis made some controversial comments about Jedward during Tuesday’s episode of Celebrity Big Brother.

Louis has sparked outrage after calling twin brothers, John and Edward Grimes, ‘despicable’ when questioned by his co-star Colson Smith about what he thought of them.

The comments were one of the latest in a series of bizarre rants about fellow celebrities, which also targeted Adele, James Corden and Ronan Keating.

During the exchange, Louis revealed that he had earned ‘£5 million’ from the double act during his time as their manager between 2009 and 2013.

Shortly after the comments aired on ITV, John and Edward took X to dispute Louis’ claims, branding him a ‘cold bastard’.

Colson had asked Louis, who managed the couple for four years, “What was Jedward like?”

The Irishman replied: ‘They were mean.’

Colson said: ‘They did a good job,’ and Louis said: ‘I got £5 million from them. I swear on my mother’s life.’

Clearly impressed, Colson joked back: “Damn, I wish I had a Jedward.”

Louis doubled down, adding, “And they were mean. But they were a novelty. It was great for the show. It was all about the show.”

That prompted the brothers – now 32 – to launch a series of scathing online accusations in response.

They started off by calling him a ‘cold guy who didn’t even send us flowers when our mother died’ – the twins lost their mother Susanna to cancer in 2019.

Following the music manager’s comments, Jedward insisted that ‘justice would be served’ as they continued the tirade on their X account.

One of the tweets shared by the brothers claimed: ‘Louis Walsh is an evil manipulator who forced us into an office to pay £70,000 from our bank account to one of his own PR people.’

Another said: ‘Louis Walsh b****d and talked about us to our best friend Tara Reid and then we fired him!’

A final tweet read: “Louis reopened these wounds all on his own because he was hateful and disrespectful. Our character will not be taken away. Justice will be done.”

MCDONALD’S will be eliminating nine items from its menu within days, including what fans are calling “the best McFlurry ever”.

The items will leave the McDonald’s menu on Tuesday (March 12), just over a month after joining.

Among those making an exit is the KitKat Ruby Chocolate McFlurry.

The sweet treat combines soft ice cream with Ruby Chocolate-covered KitKat pieces and waffle bites, then is topped with a pink raspberry sauce.

They’re not the only McFlurry fans they’ll be saying goodbye to.

The classic KitKat Milk Chocolate McFlurry, which mixes KitKat pieces with chocolate sauce, is also being axed.

The popular Big Lekker and the Big Lekker with bacon are also going away.

Every time the burgers make a comeback, they are a huge success, with many calling for them to be made permanent.

They include a beef patty, processed cheese made with Emmentaler, tomato, lettuce, onions and the iconic Big Taste sauce.

Many fans have taken to social media to express how much they will miss these items when they are gone.

Someone wrote about the KitKat Ruby Chocolate McFlurry: “The best McFlurry I’ve ever had.”

Another wrote: “They should have the Big Tasty burger all year round.”

While a third Facebook user shouted: “The big treat is my favorite.”

McDonald’s regularly changes its menu offerings to give foodies the opportunity to try new and returning items.

As part of the menu shake-up, fans are saying goodbye to several items that hit menus on February 7.

It’s not all bad news though, as from March 13 there will also be an influx of new dishes and treats.

The new items include Galaxy Truffle Bunny McFlurry and the Hot Cross Bun Pie.

While the McCrispy Deluxe, the Cadbury Creme Egg McFlurry and Halloumi Fries are all making a comeback too.

Not only that, but hitting menus for the first time is the Hot Cross Bun Latte.

The Truffle Bunny McFlurry combines soft, fluffy ice cream swirled with pieces of Galaxy Truffle, bunny ears and white and dark chocolate drops.

It is then topped with Galaxy chocolate sauce. You can get the treat for €2.19.

The Hot Cross Bun Pie is also new to menus priced at £1.99.

It consists of a crispy cinnamon pastry, filled with a spiced fruit mix and butter-flavored cream filling.

Continuing the theme, Maccies is also launching the Hot Cross Bun Latte for £2.69.

The drink is a smooth latte mixed with a sweet and spicy hot cross bun flavored syrup, topped with cinnamon cream and a layer of hot cross bun flavor.

For those of you who don’t like change, there are also three recurring menu items.

The much-loved Cadbury Creme Egg McFlurry is back in time for chocolate season.

It swirls soft dairy ice cream with chunks of Cadbury Dairy Milk and is topped with a Creme Egg sauce.

The sweet treat costs £2.19 for a regular and £1.59 for a mini.

Returning for only the second time is the McCrispy Deluxe, which first debuted last summer.

The burger is a chic take on the popular favorite.

It consists of 100% chicken fillet in a crispy jacket with hot and spicy mayonnaise and topped with cheese and bacon.

The burger only costs €5.89 and €7.79 including side dish and drink.

The shake-up will also see the return of the chain’s halloumi fries for the third year in a row – you can get a pack of four cheese sticks covered in a light batter, served with a rich tomato dip.

They cost £2.79 for a pack, or £7.39 for a share box.

Queen Letizia’s  ex brother-in-law, who has continuously alleged that he and the King’s wife had an affair, has mysteriously deleted all his posts on X – after issuing the Casa Real and Spanish president Pedro Sánchez with a 48 deadline to say if any of his statements were ‘untrue’.

Jaime Del Burgo, 53, has sensationally insisted that he was romantically involved with the former journalist after her 2004 wedding to Felipe VI – and has more than once doubled down on the claims on social media, despite the royals staying silent  on the issue.

But the businessman’s profile is now entirely empty, his photo replaced with a simple black background. The cover picture is also an elusive blurred image, and he follows no accounts. 

The move comes after earlier this week, Del Burgo theatrically announced that he will ‘respond to all the questions, comments, reproaches’ that the Spanish royal family or the nation’s political leader ‘want to ask in this medium’.

‘I leave the possibility open for 48 hours,’ he added – in a screenshot of the post which can be seen in a forum thread on Cotilleando.com. ‘If even one of the statements I have made are not true, I give you the opportunity.’

A link to his Instagram profile also shows up with an error message saying: ‘Sorry, this page isn’t available’. 

Casa Real told FEMAIL that they have no comment. MailOnline has also reached out to Pedro Sánchez for comment.

The ‘affair’ rumours rocked the Spanish family in November after Del Burgo, who is currently based in the UK, recently contributed to a tell-all book about the 51-year-old Spanish royal, titled Letizia y Yo (Letizia and I) by by Jaime Peñafiel.

In it, Del Burgo claims he and Letizia were dating when she met Felipe and were still romantically involved after her wedding to the Spanish King 20 years ago.

Following the bombshell allegations, the entrepreneur shared a selfie the Queen took in a mirror during one of her pregnancies as ‘evidence’ of their relationship.

In it, the royal can be seen wearing a black pashmina – which Del Burgo claims belonged to him – and he also typed out a message in his social media post, supposedly sent to him by Letizia. 

It read: ‘Love. I wear your pashmina. It’s like feeling you by my side. It takes care of me. It protects me. I count the hours until we see each other again. Love you. Get out of here. Yours,’ 

Father-of-two Del Burgo divorced Telma Ortiz by mutual consent in 2016 – four years after they married and two years after they split up.

He claimed in Peñafiel’s book that he was carrying an engagement ring in his pocket during a meeting at Madrid’s Ritz Hotel with his ‘then-girlfriend’ Letizia in 2002 when she told him she had fallen in love with the future King of Spain.

He alleged he became friends with Felipe after they met and was asked by Letizia to be a witness at their May 22, 2004 wedding.

Del Burgo also made the incredible claim that the Queen asked to see him the night before the wedding at the exclusive El Latigazo restaurant in Madrid – where she asked him to ‘never leave’ her.

The businessman – who is the son of the former politician Jaime Ignacio del Burgo – said their ‘romantic’ relationship was forged in Venice and pre-dated the year 2000.

He also recalled a moment he says occurred following Princess Leonor’s birth when they were lying together in a hammock by a pool, saying in the book which was released last month: ‘Letizia told me “I love you” and I responded “I love you”.’

Telma is now with Irish lawyer Gavin Bonnar and the couple welcomed their first child together in October 2021. Gavin shares two children with his first wife – musician Sharon Corr.

In her recent album, The Fool & The Scorpion, Sharon wrote lyrics which included the phrase ‘the queen’s twisted sister’ – which fans speculated were inspired by her children’s new step-mother.

Meanwhile, Del Burgo married Swedish lawyer Lucía Díaz Liljestrom.

His X bio also once said he is father to ‘Ulla and Liv’ – but is now blank.

Speaking to El Cierre Digitial, Peñafiel said Letizia was Del Burgo’s ‘great love’ and the pair’s relationship turned into a ‘great friendship’ after she became romantically involved with Felipe.

What’s more, the royal’s ex-brother-in-law also made the far-fetched claim that he ‘dealt’ with Letizia’s pre-nuptial agreement and helped to front the cost of the Queen’s family’s wedding outfits.

He is quoted as saying: ‘When the wedding with Felipe came round, I dealt with the pre-nuptial agreement as you know, amongst other things.

‘I also had to pay Letizia’s family’s expenses because [former King] Juan Carlos refused to pay or even go halves with me. So with the help of my friend Felipe Varela, I dressed her mum, grandmother and her sisters. And with the help of Jaime Jason, her father, grandparents and a cousin.’ 

In the book, Letizia’s alleged ex-lover describes Felipe as a ‘kind-hearted man’ and even goes on to say that he had a ‘great friendship’ with the royal.  He told the author: ‘I told him my problems and he told [me] his.’

The businessman even said that Felipe ‘uses [him] as a good man because he felt incapable of calming [Letizia] down’ on occasions. 

Following the wedding, Del Burgo described how Letizia was like a ‘fox in a chicken coop’ as she was ‘cleverer than any of them’. 

Del Burgo- who says the Queen nicknamed him her ‘yogi pal’ – claims he still had a romantic relationship with Letizia even after the wedding in 2004. He also claims he has kept ‘photographs, videos, mobile phones’ and text messages as evidence.

The businessman insists that ‘love was always there’ in their relationship since they travelled to Venice together. The selfie Del Burgo shared on X was taken during one of Letizia’s pregnancies between 2005-2007. 

Following this, they allegedly ‘took steps forward with the goal of being free’ – which involved seeking legal advice and looking at properties in the US. 

One of the most damaging claims Del Burgo reportedly makes is that Queen Letizia suggested they have a child together using a surrogate in Los Angeles.

Around this time, Del Burgo claims that he confronted Letizia after photos of her kissing Felipe appeared on the covers of Spanish magazines. He claims the Queen told him: ‘I had to do it to protect us.’ 

Peñafiel also wrote that when Sofia was born, Del Burgo became uncle to both of the girls.

It then quotes him as saying: ‘It was a beautiful period. I didn’t have children, and those girls made me so happy. I was working in Brazil and suffered a pulmonary embolism.

‘I was in intensive care for a fortnight. I managed to get the Albert Einstein Hospital to give me a telephone Letizia and I spoke to each other every day on [the phone].

‘During my visits to Madrid I would often go to the cinema with Felipe, Letizia and some friends. Letizia and I would always sit together, holding hands. They were moments of happiness.’

However in August 2011, Del Burgo says Letizia abruptly ended their relationship when she called him and said: ‘We can’t continue seeing each other.’

Following this, he claims that a female friend told him to get in touch with Telma – who he had met when he first started dating Letizia.

The following year, the pair got engaged after just two months of dating. The Queen’s sister already had her daughter Amanda from her relationship with ex-partner Enrique Martin Llop. 

In 2012, the pair relocated to New York to start their married life – but Telma returned to Barcelona the same year before announcing their permanent separation.

Letizia studied her Masters in broadcast journalism and after a stint at Asturian daily paper, La Nueva España, she went on to work for ABC, a popular national newspaper that enjoys the third largest circulation in Spain. 

Next came a stint at Spanish news agency EFE before a move to Guadalajara in Mexico saw her take on a role on local paper, Siglo 21.

Back in Spain a year later, she worked for the Spanish version of Bloomberg, a news channel and agency specialising in economics, before moving to CNN+.

Before she met Felipe of Spain, Letizia was married to high school literature teacher Alonso Guerrero Perez, who was nine years her senior.

The couple wed in 1998 following a ten-year romance, with the pair meeting when the future Spanish queen was just 16.

They tied the knot in a civil ceremony in the town of Almendralejo, Badajoz, but divorced the following year.

By the time she met her husband-to-be, Felipe, in 2002, Letizia was working for popular TV channel 24 Horas, where along with anchoring the popular Telediario 2 evening news bulletin she reported on a wide range of breaking news event.

As a news anchor, she reported live from Ground Zero after the 9/11 attacks in 2001.

She met Prince Felipe the following year – at the site of an oil spillage in Northern Spain. The year after first meeting Felipe, Letizia quit her job and a few days later their engagement was announced.

Letizia and Felipe’s marriage in Madrid in 2004 prompted an upswing in support for the royal family, and her habit of championing High Street brands like Zara proved popular. She and Felipe had two daughters, Leonor in 2005 and Sofia in 2007.

Referring to the scandal, a spokesperson for the Spanish Royal Family at the time told FEMAIL: ‘We have no comment to make about this.’

It comes as Letizia and Felipe recently requested a famous photographer to take new official portraits to mark their twentieth wedding anniversary – as they continue to put on a united front despite ‘affair’ allegations made by her former brother-in-law.

According to reports in the Spanish media, the couple have chosen Annie Leibovitz, who photographed the late Queen Elizabeth II in the White Drawing Room at Buckingham Palace in 2007 and took the last portrait of John Lennon a few hours before he was killed.

Letizia and Felipe will celebrate 20 years of marriage on 22nd May.  

The royal couple’s last official portraits were shot by photographer Estela de Castro inside the Royal Palace of Madrid in 2020. 

Letizia stunned in a hot pink gown with silver embroidery by Carolina Herrera in October 2019, previously worn to the ascension to the throne of Emperor Naruhito.

Madeleine McCann suspects Christian Brueckner has arrived in court as prosecutors try to start his sex crimes trial after last week’s chaotic start.

Convicted rapist Brueckner, 47, is accused of three rapes and two sexual assaults that allegedly took place on Portugal’s Algarve coast between 2000 and 2017.

The attacks happened just minutes from where then three-year-old Madeleine disappeared in May 2007 from the holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, where she was staying with parents Kate and Gerry and her siblings.

She has not been seen since and in June 2020, German police sensationally named Brueckner the man responsible for her ‘kidnapping and murder’, but he has yet to be charged with anything related to her disappearance.

Brueckner arrived in a van with a police escort and was swept inside before the start of the hearing and escorted to the courtroom, flanked by guards and wearing handcuffs.

Wearing the same jacket as last week, a white shirt and khaki pants, he shook hands with the entire legal team and winked at his legal team.

With a file in his hand, he did not look at the press or the public gallery as the hearing began seven minutes after its scheduled 9am start.

Last week’s proceedings lasted less than 10 minutes after Brueckner’s lawyer filed an urgent appeal calling for the dismissal of one of the lay judges for issuing death threats on social media against former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.

Earlier this month, Brueckner told MailOnline that the case against him was “ridiculous”, adding sarcastically: “I hope (they) will soon find answers to (their) questions.”

Mr Fulscher has said his client denies any involvement in Madeleine’s disappearance, as well as the current charges, and that Brueckner is “stressed” by the media presence and is in “poor physical health”.

The trial is not related to Madeleine’s disappearance and members of the press and public who wanted to enter the courthouse in Braunschweig near Hannover had to pass through two airport-style metal detectors before reaching the courtroom on the first floor.

In an effort to avoid the chaos of last week, which saw the trial postponed by 40 minutes, the court opened early, although there appeared to be a smaller crowd than last week waiting to enter.

Asked by MailOnline if there were any more surprises, Mr Fulscher – who is good-naturedly paid by German state funds – said cryptically: ‘Maybe…’

Last week, in an apparent stalling tactic, he told the court that child therapists should not be allowed to sit on the panel as one of the four lay judges.

Mr Fulscher highlighted how she had posted on X, formerly Twitter, in 2019 that former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro should be “killed”.

The tweets, which were seen by the Daily Mail before being deleted and read out in court, read: “Kill the devil Jair Bolsonaro. Kill the bastard Bolosonaro. He is the devil. He destroys everything. He must be killed. Now!!!’

She also posted attacks on hunter Walter James Palmer who shot and killed Cecil the Lion, as well as Donald Trump and his family.

Mr. Fulscher also highlighted how she worked as a child therapist and given that the allegations Brueckner faced involved minors, she suggested she would “probably be quite biased,” adding that they “lacked any distance and judgment.” .

After speaking for about ten minutes, Judge Uta Engemann said she would adjourn to consider the request. Forty minutes later she came back to agree and postpone the trial until today.

Prosecutor Ute Lindemann agreed with her – although he added that the fact that she had children was not relevant – but she added: ‘The application is justified. We do not tolerate statements outside the legal system and calls for murder.’

Officials hope that by securing a conviction on the charges, he will reveal what happened to Madeleine.

If found guilty, he could spend the rest of his life in prison, but sources close to him say he will remain silent and not testify.

He insists that DNA and electronic evidence against him is false and that witnesses are lying about him.

Prosecutors also face a dilemma as two of the rape victims have not been identified, but the third victim is known: Irish tour guide Hazel Behan, who says she was attacked in 2004 while working in the Algarve.

She says she was threatened with a knife, tied up and subjected to an hours-long attack by a man she later recognized as Brueckner after his photo was released by German police in 2020.

At the time, she was a 20-year-old sales representative and the now married mother of three will be one of the key witnesses to testify at the trial, which will last until June.

The other two rapes involved an unknown woman between 70 and 80 years old and an unknown girl around 14 years old.

The fourth charge concerns an indecent assault against a 10-year-old girl on a beach close to where Madeleine disappeared a month later and the latest also involves assaulting another child in the Algarve at a playground in 2017.

Earlier this year, Bruecker was transferred from Oldenburg prison in northern Germany to Schnedebruch near Hannover for the duration of the trial.

He is currently serving a seven-year prison sentence for raping an elderly American woman in the Algarve in 2005 and was jailed in 2019 following testimony from two former friends who will also testify at his retrial.

He was also moved after complaining of abuse by guards in Oldenburg, where he was in a secure, isolated unit.

Bruecker told MailOnline: ‘My situation didn’t change at all. I just moved the prison. I am still totally isolated. Since (sic) more than two years now.

“I’m still not allowed to talk to anyone other than my lawyer and my punishment (guards).”
