Will England get a new kit for Euro 2024 release date?

As the England football team prepare for European Championship glory, the kit they will wear on the battlefield has finally been revealed.

On social media, the English account posted a photo of the kits: “Our England. Our pride. Our family.

The men’s collection, which Gareth Southgate’s players will wear during this summer’s European Championship, will be released on March 21, while the women’s kits will go on sale in June.

The England men’s team are expected to debut the home kit when they play Brazil in a friendly on Saturday before hosting Belgium three days later.

The Lionesses’ next match is a Euro 2025 qualifier against Sweden at Wembley on April 5.

Some fans were excited about the news, calling the design an instant classic that is sure to bring football home this year.

While others have found the new kit to be “too woke” and “too expensive”.

How much does the New England kit cost?

Both the men’s and women’s competition shirts cost €124.99, while the children’s competition top costs a slightly lower price of €119.

If fans want something cheaper, they can opt for the stadium top, which costs £84.99, while the kids’ shirt costs £64.99.

Kids can also buy the full kit for £54.99, while baby kits currently cost £49.

England’s best and worst kits

In an exclusive interview with The Sun, Labour’s Keir Starmer criticized the prices and said they should be cut.

He said: ‘I’m not even sure they can properly explain why they thought they needed to change in the first place.

“They could also lower the price of the shirts.”

Why did Nike change the English flag?

Fans quickly noticed that the traditional red cross on the Three Lions kit has been changed to a cross of navy blue, light blue and purple.

It is believed to be a nod to the 1966 World Cup winners’ training kit, which featured blue, red and purple.

The change led to some calling the shirt “woke”, as they called on the manufacturer to return to the usual colours.

But according to The mailNike will not succumb to the pressure from some English fans.

A Nike spokesperson said: “The England 2024 home kit disrupts history with a modern take on a classic.

“The piping on the cuffs is inspired by the training gear worn by England’s 1966 heroes, with a gradient of blue and red topped with purple.

“The same colors also feature an interpretation of the flag of St. George on the back of the collar.”

It is understood the flag change was the work of a Nike designer, but was also signed off by the FA.

And the FA insists the decision was made to “honor the classic 1966 training kit color scheme”.

Sir Keir told The Sun that the “flag is used by everyone, it is unifying and does not need to be changed”.

He said, “We should just be proud of it. So I think they should just rethink this and change it back.”

England shirt change controversy

The latest Three Lions comic came under heavy fire after a sudden change.

The Three Lions comics were unveiled on Monday, with the traditional red cross changed to a navy blue, light blue and purple.

But Nike and the FA have “no plans” to recall the new England home kit amid a row over the changed St George’s flag.

Both the home and away kits were released earlier this week, with England set to debut them in the upcoming internationals in March.

It is believed to be a nod to the 1966 World Cup winners’ training kit, which featured blue, red and purple.

The change led to some calling the shirt “woke”, as they called on the manufacturer to return to the usual colours.

The release of new kits is one of the highlights in the run-up to a summer tournament, but English fans have also been left frustrated by the cost of the Three Lions’ new jerseys.

England’s “authentic” home and away shirts for the European Championships cost £124.99 for adults and a whopping £119.99 for children.

Which kit will England wear?

The home kit is classic white with a blue collar and blue shorts.

Meanwhile, the second strip is all purple and is receiving high praise from fans.

Finally, the goalkeepers will appear between the sticks in striking orange jerseys.

Although some fans are baffled by the away kit, arguing that it is the new optical illusion of the “blue and black dress”.

Why is the England kit purple?

According to a statement from the England football team, the new match kit is inspired by old football legends.

The team said that “the striking purple color is a remix of red and blue from the past.”

So it looks like the team has decided to mix kits from the past, which were usually blue or red, to take the team into the future.

Many fans were excited about the look of the comics.

One said: “So this is what Kane will look like when he lifts the European Championship trophy this summer.”

While a second replied: “Omg we actually win it all.”

And a third said: “Honestly some of our best kit ever.”

Who will wear the new kit at the European Championships?

Although the official line-up won’t be announced until May 21, here are some of the legends we expect to see at the Euros:

Kelly Rowland stunned in blue on Tuesday while attending the premiere of Mea Culpa in Chicago, Illinois, after her spokesperson defended her recent dressing room saga.

The 43-year-old singer looked vibrant as she rocked an electric blue fur jacket over a matching blue jumpsuit at the event, which was hosted at the AMC River East Theater.

Her hair was styled in a chic short bob and she completed her look with some jewelry.

Earlier on Tuesday, Kelly's longtime rep, Yvette Noel-Schure, released a statement following reports that Rowland left her co-hosting gig on Today due to locker room issues.

“After 28 years of knowing her, Kelly Rowland remains one of the kindest and most lovable people I have ever met and had the pleasure of representing,” she said. Entertainment tonight.

While on the red carpet at the event, Kelly – who was recently supported by Destiny's Child co-member Beyonce at the film's New York premiere – was spotted posing with some of her co-stars, including Trevante Rhodes, 34 .

The actor looked dapper in a black jacket with a brown pattern, a black shirt and jeans.

She also mingled with Nekia Nichelle, who sizzled in a black lace top, jeans and a blazer.

In the upcoming Netflix thriller, written and directed by Tyler Perry, Rowland stars as criminal defense attorney Mea Harper.

The film follows Mea as she decides to represent a young male artist (played by Trevante Rhodes) accused of murdering his girlfriend.

Rowland and Perry are also listed as producers on the project, which was picked up last February and shot in March.

Mea Culpa can be streamed on Netflix from February 23.

Hoda Kotb also broke her silence on Kelly's recent locker room issue on Tuesday. The 59-year-old presenter extended an invitation to the singer again during an episode of Today with Hoda & Jenna, stating that she is always welcome on set.

“I just want to say this: I have great love and admiration for Kelly Rowland. I love her. And I want her to come back on our show, and I want her to be a host again,” she explained.

'She can share my dressing room, we're in it together!' the TV presenter joked.

Hoda's longtime co-host Jenna Bush Hager, who was scheduled to take the day off last Thursday when Kelly was expected to step in, agreed, saying the star is “always welcome” because “she's the best.”

Hoda added, “I just want to say that we love her and we've loved her for many, many years on this show.”

Jenna then recalled Kelly's debut on the Today show, exclaiming, “Remember the first time she was a guest and we both said, 'Can she please host?'

It was reported on Friday that Kelly was unhappy with the dressing room that was offered, so she opted to leave the set at the last minute. Rita Ora came forward to fill in.

“On the other hand, we want to give a shoutout to Rita Ora, who came in at the last minute and really did a phenomenal job,” Hoda concluded on Tuesday's episode.

Ora, 33, took to her Instagram on Friday to share a fun photo carousel from her time on the morning show and admitted it all came together in the eleventh hour.

Her post came hours after it was claimed that Kelly had left the guest hosting job after expressing dissatisfaction with Today's dressing rooms.

The singer's move left Today in disarray, according to sources Page six on Friday.

DailyMail.com has reached out to Rowland's representatives and has yet to hear back.

Kelly did appear for an interview segment about her new project during the 8 a.m. segment of Today.

However, the publication reports that she was expected to fill in for Jenna Bush Hager during the fourth hour while she was a guest host for Today With Hoda & Jenna.

Insiders from the publication claim that Kelly dropped out at the last minute because the locker room was not “in order,” while television host Hoda “scrambled to find a replacement.”

The insider told the publication: “Kelly and her team were not happy. They didn't like the dressing room, so they decided to take her off the show and leave [Kotb] without a guest host for the 10 a.m. hour.”

They told Page Six that the singer and actress' abrupt departure was a bit of a surprise.

A source said: 'She is loved by Today. She got the full hour, and Hoda is the biggest hype woman in the world! There was no point.'

The insiders told the publication that Rowland played a game of “musical dressing rooms” with her team.

Her entourage reportedly inquired about the green room upstairs because “they didn't like the room she was in.”

However, Jennifer Lopez was in the room at the time as she arrived there earlier to promote her new album and film This Is Me… Now.

Page Six also reports that the locker rooms on Today are notoriously known for being some of the smallest in the industry, with one source telling them that they are practically “glorified closets.”

The source said: “They are not nice. It is the oldest building. There are major space limitations, [it’s] not glamorous. It's not fresh flowers, candles and gourmet food. It is actually [a] white box.'

Today, stars Sheinelle Jones and Dylan Dreyer previously showed off their dressing rooms in 2021 and they didn't look nice.

Insiders from the publication claim that chat show producers offered the star several other options, including talent dressing rooms and larger makeup and hair areas.

They explained, “They didn't want that. [The show] Basically, they offered as much as they could, but they weren't happy with it, so they walked away.”

The widow of Netflix star Chris 'Willow' Wilson is personally suing Outback Wrangler Matt Wright over the fatal NT helicopter crash that killed him.

Danielle Wilson previously filed a civil action against his helicopter company Helibrook and the Australian Civil Aviation Authority, alleging they both failed to fulfill their duty of care to her late husband when he died while collecting crocodile eggs.

Chris Wilson was found hanging from a Robinson R44 helicopter, known as VH-IDW, when it crashed near King River in Arnham Land in February 2022.

Mrs Wilson filed proceedings in the Federal Court in December over what her lawyers say were “wrongful acts or omissions” that caused or contributed to the death of her late husband.

Helibrook, the company owned by Wilson's co-star Matt Wright, and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), which authorized his suspension from the helicopter, were both named as respondents.

But on Thursday, Wilson's barrister David Lloyd SC indicated he would add Mr Wright himself as a third respondent to the suit, saying he was 'in effect negligently asserting the same cause of action as is alleged against his company'.

Mr Lloyd said there were concerns that QBE could deny insurance coverage to Helibrook and that if his client's case were successful they would not be able to “enforce” the court's ruling, The West Australian reports.

He also said his client would also seek to freeze the assets of Mr Wright and his wife Kaia until the case is over.

The pair run several business and tourism ventures in the Northern Territory.

He said Mr Wright had told him through legal correspondence that he was covered by Helibrook's insurance policy so the order to freeze his assets would not be necessary.

At this week's hearing it was agreed that the asset freeze application would be postponed until next week to give QBE the opportunity to clarify its position on whether it would defend the insurance claim.

Ms Wilson is seeking costs, damages, interest, interest on costs and 'any other order the court considers appropriate' for the psychological harm caused by the conduct.

In court documents, Ms Wilson's lawyers claim CASA breached its duty of care to Mr Wilson by approving Helibrook's sling operation.

According to factual background provided in the documents, picking up or suspending people by air was prohibited between 2007 and 2021 unless authorized by CASA.

Regulations from December 2021 only allowed sling operations under strict regulations.

At the time of the crash, the Robinson helicopter was operating under a CASA instrument that enabled such roll operations.

Ms Wilson's lawyers claim the appropriate circumstances had not been met, without a proper or appropriate risk assessment having been carried out and 'without ongoing monitoring, assessment and/or verification of the participants carrying out the activity and their practices'.

A report from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) shows the crash was likely caused by the helicopter running out of fuel.

The agency determined that Mr. Wilson likely fell from a height of more than 16 feet when the pilot attempted an emergency landing, resulting in his death.

In the documents they further allege that Helibrook breached its duty of care to Wilson by failing to carry out a risk assessment of the sling operation.

“(Helibrook) failed to employ appropriate pilots and/or properly train pilots and other personnel regarding roll operations,” the documents allege.

Wilson's lawyers claim the company failed to ensure that the pilots informed the crew about emergency procedures and maintenance of the helicopter.

It is further alleged that the company 'allowed VH-IDW to be flown in a manner that compromised the pilot's ability to ensure there was sufficient fuel' for the operation.

Sebastian Robinson, the then pilot who was seriously injured in the crash, would not have carried out a risk assessment as an employer of Helibrook.

Mrs Wilson's lawyers claim a risk assessment would have revealed 'a range of issues', including the likelihood of her husband's death at heights above 5 metres.

“CASA owed Mr. Wilson a duty to exercise reasonable care in the exercise and performance of his legal powers and functions,” its lawyers allege in the documents.

'Helibrook had… a duty of care as his employer or equivalent.

In the documents, Wilson's lawyers state that the applicant 'claims negligence against CASA and Helibrook' and 'in the alternative… the applicant claims damages for the death of Mr Wilson, for which Helibrook as carrier is strictly liable'.

In their assessment of the alleged harm caused to Mrs Wilson, her lawyers claim: '(She) suffered nervous shock or psychiatric damage and loss of maintenance and support from Mr Wilson during the course of his life… (and) costs (including costs of attending a corona investigation).'

A spokeswoman for CASA said it would not be appropriate to comment on the proceedings as they took place in court.

A spokesperson for Gillis Delaney Lawyers, which is representing Mr Wright, said the proceedings had been referred to Helibrook's insurer 'who will conduct the defense of the claim'.

“The filing notes that the pilot, who was an independent contractor, is responsible and claims Helibrook is liable for his actions,” the spokesperson said.

'The proceedings are defended by the insurer and we expect contractor Pilot and his company to be included in the proceedings.'

In addition to the recent claim, Mr Wright is committed to stand trial on a charge of attempted perverting of the course of justice in the Northern Territory Supreme Court next year.

Mr Wright has 'vehemently' denied any wrongdoing.

During the settlement proceedings on December 7, Mr Wright's representatives issued a statement acknowledging that “one of the seven charges today is at trial for next year.”

The other charges against him include one charge of intimidating a helicopter pilot, one charge of destroying evidence, one charge of fabricating evidence, two charges of unlawful entry and one charge of making a false statement.

“The other charges will remain pending resolution of the charge now before the Supreme Court,” Wright said in a statement.

“I am hopeful that the remaining charges will all be dropped once this charge is resolved next year.”

Two of Wright's co-defendants, Michael Burbidge and ex-police officer Neil Mellon, have pleaded guilty to destroying evidence for their roles in the incident.

An Australian bikini brand has come under fire after sharing a video of a male model posing in a women's swimsuit, almost a year after Seafolly suffered a similar fate for its partnership with non-binary influencer Deni Todorovič.

Moana Bikini, a swimsuit brand from body positive influencer Karina Irby, shared an Instagram video Saturday of model Jake Young strutting around in a $130 white one-piece swimsuit.

“Obsessed with this look,” the account captioned the post, adding that “Moana babe” Jake modeled a size smaller.

Dozens of disgruntled customers have since responded to the video, with many accusing Moana Bikini of “allowing men to invade women's spaces.”

'Is that a human? I thought you were about empowering women? It seems that men try to take over everything that women hold sacred. Our safe spaces, our identity and now our fashion,” one user wrote.

“Sorry, but Moana, this is not how you empower women. This puts men back in power over us and tells them to do better,” someone else added.

'Horrible marketing. Why is everyone trying so hard to 'wake up'? The model is beautiful but this isn't it,” another added.

Many commenters simply said they had 'unfollowed' the page and would no longer purchase Moana products.

Moana Bikini has doubled down on her decision to share the video.

“If Jake in our bikini upsets you this much, we think this is your problem,” the brand wrote in a response to a disgruntled follower.

Jake has also defended himself, insisting his position “empowers a minority.”

'There are many different types of women. Women with a different anatomy than what you consider 'normal,'” the model wrote in a response.

'I am not a woman, and I have never claimed to be. This post simply empowers a minority and I am forever grateful for that. Your hatred is a reflection of your own insecurities, not mine.”

Several followers also rushed to defend the video and praise Moana for its “commitment to inclusivity,” with one commenting: “Obsessed! Thank you for always being inclusive in your sizes and styles! Number one reason I will always support your brand.”

'The perfect amount of masculine beauty and feminine beauty combined!' another enthused, as someone else added: 'Swimsuits are for anyone who wants to wear them. Why is someone in a bathing suit bothering you so much?'

When contacted for comment, Moana Bikini stood by the video.

“We find it completely absurd that people would single out this individual post from our twelve years of activity to make a wild statement about our failure to empower women,” a spokesperson said.

“Moana Bikini is – and always has been – one of the most inclusive and powerful brands around. This is true not only in terms of our size and style range for women, but – most importantly – in our love and acceptance of all races, ethnicities, body shapes and sizes, genders and sexual orientations. This has not changed and will never change.”

They continued: 'Many commentators use the excuse that they think it is 'offensive to women', when in reality it is very clear that they are homophobic and have a problem with someone proudly and confidently expressing their sexuality.'

'We are happy to receive and hear people's feedback, both negative and positive. But we are not here to please everyone. That is an impossible task. If people don't like this individual post from a proud, gay man wearing a piece of clothing he feels confident in, they can just keep scrolling or unfollow, right?”

“Imagine living a life where you choose to be offended by something and stick around, commenting and engaging, only to make yourself angrier. Frankly, this sounds like a them problem and not a us problem.”

The saga is strikingly similar to the row that arose in March last year when swimwear brand Seafolly collaborated with non-binary influencer Deni Todorovič.

Deni, who uses their pronouns and identifies as non-binary, caused controversy after taking to Instagram with a photo of themselves posing in lime green bikini bottoms and a matching cover-up near Bondi Beach.

“This is the first time iconic Australian swimming giants @seafollyaustralia have collaborated with a trans ambassador/brand partner,” Deni innocently wrote beneath the image.

They later edited their caption to read: “Today we made history. This is the first time iconic Australian swimming giants @seafollyaustralia have collaborated with a transgender person.”

The photo sparked widespread backlash, including calls to boycott the brand, which has used models such as Miranda Kerr and Gigi Hadid in its glamorous campaigns in the past.

Writer Alexandra Marshall was among those who spoke out against the campaign, saying the swimwear brand was “ridiculing women.”

'Hi @seafolly. Never again. I have been buying swimwear from you for years. Never again,” she wrote on Twitter.

Seafolly later denied that Todorovič was an ambassador for the brand, saying they were a “special guest” at the brand's World Pride event in Sydney.

A spearfisherman has sparked fresh outrage after illegally killing a family of blue gropers, just days after anger erupted over the death of a fish feared to be Gus The Groper in Sydney.

Photos on social media have revealed NSW fisheries officers intercepted a spearfisherman with three dead betapers at Plantation Point, Jervis Bay, on the NSW south coast, on Friday.

The catch included a female groper, which is brown, and at least two juveniles. All blue betagers start out as women and can transition into blue men later in life.

Spear fishing for blue gropers is banned in NSW, but pole anglers are still allowed to catch them, with a limit of two fish bags per day.

Woebegone Freedive posted photos on Facebook on Tuesday of the three fish discovered by fisheries protection officials.

“Devastating news from Jervis Bay: a family of bluegrouses, an iconic and protected species, has been illegally speared,” the post said.

‘After a fantastic beach dive with a great group, enjoying time with bull rays and dolphins, our joy turned to horror when we returned to witness this horrific event.

‘These friendly ‘Labradors of the sea’ are an essential part of our ecosystem and loved by many.

“Just days after losing Gus the Payer in Sydney, we are once again reminded of the urgent need for better protection and education.

‘Many thanks to the local fishing crew for their diligent work in searching this individual’s catch, and for the fines and seizure of the fishing gear.

‘Great job in protecting our marine life.’

The NSW Department of Primary Industries confirmed the gruesome transport to Daily Mail Australia.

“Fisheries officers responded to a report on the Fishers Watch phone line of a payer being illegally speared by a spearfisherman,” a DPI spokesperson said.

‘A spearfisherman was arrested at the scene by fisheries officers in possession of three female gropes.

“Fisheries officers have questioned the individual in question and seized the groper and all fishing gear.

“The matter is under investigation and appropriate compliance action will be taken.”

The spokesperson added: ‘Plantation Point is part of the Jervis Bay Marine Park and is a habitat protection zone where spearfishing is possible.

‘Groper can only be legally taken by line in NSW. For recreational anglers, this means a minimum size of 12 inches and a bag limit of two (with only one fish over 2 feet).

‘Fishermen and spearfishers should be aware of the rules governing their activities before fishing or spearfishing.’

David Warner’s missing Baggy Green Test caps have been found – although the retired Aussie opener has provided no insight into where they were or who took them in the first place.

Earlier, he had launched an emotional appeal on Instagram on Tuesday for the return of his Baggy Green caps.

His prized headgear was in a backpack that was lost in transit between Melbourne and Sydney this week.

That backpack was reportedly found at the Australian team’s hotel in Sydney, with all its contents intact.

Warner and the Australian team have not made any statement about where the backpack has been for the past three days.

Warner is currently playing in his 112th and final Test match for Australia against Pakistan where he made 34 in the first innings.

On Friday morning he announced that the Baggy Green had returned safe and sound.

Warner’s Baggy Green was lost in transit from Melbourne to Sydney after a backpack he owned went missing

“Hi everyone, I’m very happy and relieved to let you all know that my baggy greens have been found, which is great news,” he announced on Instagram today.

‘Thanks to everyone involved and I am extremely grateful. Qantas, the freight company, our hotels and team management. Thank you.’

It comes after his earlier plea to find the Baggy Greens, in which he suggested the backpack had been stolen.

“Unfortunately, someone took my backpack out of my luggage, which contained my backpack and my girls’ presents,” Warner said ahead of the SCG test.

‘My baggy green was in this backpack. It’s sentimental to me. It’s something I’d like to have in my hands when I walk around there this week.

“If it’s the backpack you really wanted, I have a spare here. You won’t get into trouble.

‘Please contact Cricket Australia or myself via my social media. I’ll be happy to give you this if you give me back my bags of greens.’

Some cricket fans used Warner’s upbeat announcement on Friday morning – and his failure to reveal how the cap was found – as an opportunity to make jokes at the star’s expense and humorously suggest he was the reason the headgear disappeared.

“You left it in your hotel room in Melbourne, didn’t you?” wrote one.

“Davy Dumb Dumb lost it himself but accepts no blame,” said another commenter.

Other similar comments included: “Great story you made up Davo,” “Since you didn’t mention where it was found, assume you’ve had it the whole time or you didn’t pack it as it was originally made up’ and ‘Leave it on the bedside table. isn’t it Davey’.

Daily Mail Australia does not suggest that Warner was in any way dishonest about what happened to the cap.

Other fans had a different angle, suggesting the cap came from rivals from Warner’s long career.

“Respect to Stuart Broad for giving it back,” one fan wrote, referring to the England cricket star known for his stellar record against the Australian.

“Babar taken?” asked another, referring to Pakistani star Babar Azam, who stars in the current series.

However, convicted drug trafficker Schapelle Corby stole some of Warner’s attention with a cheeky response to his social media appeal.

‘Qantas! Well, I have a story for you,” she posted accompanied by an exploding head emoji.

Corby is known for her high-profile trial and incarceration related to drug trafficking in Indonesia.

Her legal defense team had raised the possibility that a Qantas baggage handler had planted marijuana in her boogie board bag.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was among the high-profile identities who had joined the call to return Warner’s Baggy Green.

“And I really hope, it hasn’t happened yet, whoever knows anything about the missing caps, David Warner has represented Australia more than a hundred times,” he said earlier this week.

‘The wide green caps are his. He earned them and they must be returned.”

Teammate Mitch Marsh had jokingly claimed he was the perpetrator.

“I should probably tell him it’s been in my backpack for the last few days,” Marsh said.

“A strange situation and it could probably only happen to Davey.”

US Steel agreed on Monday to sell itself to Nippon Steel for $14.1 billion, capping months of speculation about the fate of the American industrial heavyweight.

US Steel, which was founded more than a century ago by J. Pierpont Morgan from part of Andrew Carnegie’s industrial empire, has considered several takeover bids, including from domestic rival Cleveland-Cliffs. A little-known steelmaker, Esmark, made an even bigger offer – which contained few details – before withdrawing days later.

Ultimately, US Steel chose an offer from one of its largest global competitors that was worth significantly more than the initial offer from Cleveland-Cliffs: Nippon Steel will pay $55 per share in cashcompared to the $35 per share cash and stock offer Cleveland-Cliffs made in August.

“US Steel and NSC are creating a truly global steel company with combined capabilities and innovation capable of meeting the evolving needs of our customers,” said David B. Burritt, CEO of US Steel. said in a statement.

This is a development story. Check back for updates.

Near the height of the streaming boom in the fall of 2018, a half-dozen studios and video platforms lined up to woo a little-known filmmaker named Carl Erik Rinsch. He had directed only one movie, “47 Ronin.” It was a commercial and critical dud, and Mr. Rinsch’s tussles with its producers had raised eyebrows, even in an industry where such conflicts are the norm.

But memories in Hollywood are short, and the demand for new content was intense. In just a decade, the number of scripted TV shows had soared from 200 to more than 500, with new streaming services from Disney, Apple and NBCUniversal on the way. Amid the feeding frenzy, the project that Mr. Rinsch was pitching — a science-fiction series about artificial humans — became a hot property.

After a competitive auction, Mr. Rinsch and his representatives reached an informal eight-figure agreement with Amazon. But before they had a chance to put it in writing, Netflix swooped in. Cindy Holland, the company’s vice president of original content at the time, called Mr. Rinsch at home on a Sunday and dangled millions of dollars more, as well as something studios rarely gave directors: final cut.

Netflix won the deal — and would soon come to regret it.

The project with Mr. Rinsch has turned into a costly fiasco, a microcosm of the era of profligate spending that Hollywood studios now are scrambling to end. Netflix burned more than $55 million on Mr. Rinsch’s show and gave him near-total budgetary and creative latitude but never received a single finished episode.

Soon after he signed the contract, Mr. Rinsch’s behavior grew erratic, according to members of the show’s cast and crew, texts and emails reviewed by The New York Times, and court filings in a divorce case brought by his wife. He claimed to have discovered Covid-19’s secret transmission mechanism and to be able to predict lightning strikes. He gambled a large chunk of the money from Netflix on the stock market and cryptocurrencies. He spent millions of dollars on a fleet of Rolls-Royces, furniture and designer clothing.

Mr. Rinsch and Netflix are now locked in a confidential arbitration proceeding initiated by Mr. Rinsch, who claims the company breached their contract and owes him at least $14 million in damages. Netflix has denied owing Mr. Rinsch anything and has called his demands a shakedown.

It’s not uncommon for Hollywood productions to run into trouble, but a debacle of this magnitude is rare. And it has surfaced at an inopportune moment, with Hollywood under pressure from investors to cut back on lavish spending and to focus on making profits rather than adding streaming subscribers at any cost. That squeeze is only expected to intensify. Hollywood studios’ recent agreements to pay writers and actors more are likely to further pinch profits.

Mr. Rinsch declined to respond to a detailed list of questions. In a recent Instagram post, he said he did not cooperate with The Times because he expected the article to be “inaccurate.” He predicted that it would “discuss the fact that I somehow lost my mind … (Spoiler alert) … I did not.”

Thomas Cherian, a spokesman for Netflix, said the company had provided substantial funding and other support to Mr. Rinsch’s series, but “after a lot of time and effort, it became clear that Mr. Rinsch was never going to complete the project he agreed to make, and so we wrote the project off.”

By all accounts, Mr. Rinsch, 46, is a talented filmmaker. The youngest son of an insurance executive, he grew up in California’s San Fernando Valley and started renting camera equipment and shooting short films in his early teens. After attending Brown University, he returned to Los Angeles and joined Ridley Scott’s production company, making commercials and apprenticing under the acclaimed director.

Friends say Mr. Rinsch always had a quirky side. He had a habit of telling tall tales about his childhood, claiming that he grew up in Africa and that his father was a spy. While living at the Huntley Hotel in Santa Monica for a stretch, he insisted that the staff cover every inch of his room in white sheets.

Mr. Rinsch’s career began to take off in 2010 when a short film he made for the Dutch electronics maker Philips won top awards at the Cannes Lions international advertising festival.

There was talk that Mr. Rinsch would direct a prequel to “Alien,” Mr. Scott’s 1979 sci-fi classic, for his feature film debut. Instead, Universal Studios hired him to direct “47 Ronin,” a big-budget action movie starring Keanu Reeves.

The project encountered difficulties. Mr. Rinsch clashed with Scott Stuber, one of the producers, and at one point was removed from the editing room, according to a person familiar with what happened. When the film was released on Christmas Day in 2013, it bombed. Universal had to write off a large portion of its $175 million budget.

Mr. Rinsch went back to making commercials. On the side, he and his wife — a Uruguayan model and fashion designer, Gabriela Rosés Bentancor — began working on a passion project: a sci-fi TV series about a genius who invents a humanlike species called the Organic Intelligent. The O.I. are deployed to trouble spots around the globe to provide humanitarian aid, but humans eventually discover their true nature and turn against them. Mr. Rinsch called the show “White Horse,” a reference to the first horseman of the apocalypse.

At first, Mr. Rinsch financed the production with his own money and hired mostly European actors and crew members, which reduced costs and avoided Hollywood union rules. The early shoots followed punishing schedules. During a shoot in Kenya, Mr. Rinsch insisted on filming for 24 hours straight, two members of the production said. In Romania, the lead actress caught hypothermia doing a scene barelegged in the snow and had to be rushed to a hospital, they said.

To keep the project going, Mr. Rinsch secured an investment from 30West, a production company backed by the billionaire entrepreneur Dan Friedkin. But when Mr. Rinsch missed a deadline, 30West threatened to take possession of the project. Mr. Reeves, the Hollywood star, who had become friends with Mr. Rinsch during the shooting of “Ronin,” came to his rescue by investing in the show and becoming a producer alongside Ms. Rosés.

With the money Mr. Reeves contributed, Mr. Rinsch finished editing six short episodes ranging from four to 10 minutes. He used them to pitch the big streaming companies on a 13-episode, 120-minute first season. At the time, streaming services were in an expensive arms race for content to attract new subscribers. Netflix, in particular, was lavishing money and creative control on top creators like Shonda Rhimes and Ryan Murphy. Hollywood was also open to new show formats. Quibi, a short-form video platform conceived by Jeffrey Katzenberg, the former DreamWorks Animation chief, had just been founded to much fanfare.

Mr. Rinsch’s pitch attracted interest from Amazon, HBO, Hulu, Netflix, Apple and YouTube. Amazon — which had shown its willingness to spend big by paying nearly $250 million for the rights to make a television show based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings” — looked set to win the bidding. But Netflix snatched the project away at the last minute, convinced it had the potential to become a sci-fi franchise as successful as “Stranger Things” that could spawn sequels and spinoffs.

The company agreed to pay $61.2 million in several installments for the rights to the series, which it renamed “Conquest,” according to a November 2018 term sheet reviewed by The Times. The deal included two unusual clauses: Netflix gave Mr. Rinsch final cut, a privilege it had previously bestowed on only a few directors. And it assured Mr. Rinsch and Ms. Rosés that they would remain “locked for life” to all subsequent seasons and spinoffs.

In granting Mr. Rinsch such generous terms, Netflix ignored several red flags. One was the project’s troubled past. At the time, Mr. Rinsch was still fighting with 30West and other early investors. (They received $14 million of the $61 million from Netflix under a legal settlement.) Another was the fact that the series didn’t have a script; Mr. Rinsch had based the first six episodes on a story that he had thought up in his head.

Netflix also overlooked Mr. Rinsch’s checkered reputation in Hollywood. Mr. Stuber, the producer who had clashed with him on “Ronin,” had joined Netflix’s movie division a year earlier. Ms. Holland, the company’s head of original content, didn’t consult him before buying “Conquest.”

With Netflix’s big-money commitment, Mr. Rinsch now had to deliver. Shooting of the remaining episodes of “Conquest” got underway in São Paulo, Brazil, and then in Montevideo, Uruguay, and in Budapest.

In São Paulo, the local film industry union dispatched a representative to the set after receiving a complaint that Mr. Rinsch was “mistreating the team” with “shouts,” “cursing” and “excessive irritation,” according to a letter the union sent Netflix’s local production partner. Netflix was informed of the issue and addressed it with Mr. Rinsch, a person familiar with the matter said.

In Budapest, Mr. Rinsch went days without sleep and accused his wife of plotting to have him assassinated, two people who witnessed the outburst said.

Ms. Rosés later said in a court filing in her divorce case that Mr. Rinsch’s behavior had started to change even before the overseas shoots. On several occasions, he had thrown things at her and twice punched holes in a wall.

Mr. Rinsch has said he was diagnosed with autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and took medications for both. Ms. Rosés and some crew members worried about his use of Vyvanse, an amphetamine that is commonly prescribed to treat A.D.H.D. When overused, the drug can have serious side effects, including mania, delirium and even psychosis, according to psychiatrists.

After filming wrapped up in Budapest in late 2019, Ms. Rosés hired a behavioral health consultant to try to persuade Mr. Rinsch to enter rehab. Accompanied by Mr. Reeves, one of Mr. Rinsch’s brothers and several members of the “Conquest” crew, the consultant staged an intervention at Mr. Rinsch’s Los Angeles home, several people who attended said. Mr. Rinsch agreed to let a sober companion stay with him, but he sent him packing within a couple of days, the people said.

In March 2020, as the coronavirus pandemic was reaching U.S. shores, Mr. Rinsch asked Netflix to send him more money. The company had already spent $44.3 million on “Conquest.” Mr. Rinsch had missed several production milestones and was toggling between two versions of the script, a shorter one that matched the original 13-episode plan and one twice as long that would have required greenlighting a second season.

Netflix initially resisted Mr. Rinsch’s demand for more funds, but it relented when he claimed the whole production risked collapsing without an immediate cash injection.

Netflix wired Mr. Rinsch’s production company $11 million, bringing its total outlay to more than $55 million. It gave Mr. Rinsch permission to use some of the new money to do preproduction work on the longer version of the script. The caveat was that if Netflix didn’t sign off on the expanded script after five weeks, Mr. Rinsch had to use the rest of the money to finish and deliver the originally agreed-upon first season.

Mr. Rinsch transferred $10.5 million of the $11 million to his personal brokerage account at Charles Schwab and, using options, placed risky bets on the stock market, according to copies of his bank and brokerage statements included in the divorce case. One of his wagers was that shares of the biotech firm Gilead Sciences, which had announced that it was testing an antiviral drug on Covid patients, would soar. Another was that the S&P 500 index, which had already declined more than 30 percent, would fall further. Mr. Rinsch lost $5.9 million in a matter of weeks.

In the following months, he behaved more erratically. Like many people, he was deeply affected by the pandemic, and he espoused strange theories about the coronavirus, according to text messages and emails reviewed by The Times. When Ms. Rosés went to check on him in June 2020, he took her to a scenic lookout in the Hollywood hills and pointed at planes overhead. They were “organic, intelligent forces” that “came to say hi,” he told her, according to Ms. Rosés’s filing in the divorce case. He also sent her texts claiming that he could predict lightning strikes and volcanic eruptions.

At Netflix, Ms. Holland, too, was witnessing some of Mr. Rinsch’s behavior. He was sending her text messages, which The Times reviewed, containing bizarre doodles with incomprehensible annotations.

Yet Ms. Holland didn’t realize the extent of the problem until Ms. Rosés reached out in July 2020. She informed Ms. Holland and another Netflix executive, Peter Friedlander, about Mr. Rinsch’s state. Two days later, she filed for divorce.

In September 2020, Netflix shook up its management team. Ms. Holland and another executive involved with Mr. Rinsch’s contract would leave the company.

A few months later, Mr. Friedlander and a Netflix business affairs executive, Rochelle Gerson, called Ms. Rosés. They wanted to know whether she could get access to the show’s footage so they could figure out what still needed to be done to complete the first season. When Ms. Rosés told them that she didn’t feel comfortable doing so without Mr. Rinsch’s approval, Ms. Gerson worried that Mr. Rinsch might have an “explosive response” if Ms. Rosés broached the matter with him.

Ms. Gerson soon began receiving emails from Mr. Rinsch in which he claimed, among other things, to have found a way to map “the coronavirus signal emanating from within the earth.”

Netflix executives grew so concerned with Mr. Rinsch’s behavior that they consulted with the Los Angeles Police Department’s threat management unit, a person with knowledge of the matter said. A Police Department psychologist reviewed Mr. Rinsch’s texts and emails and concluded that he didn’t seem like a threat to himself or others.

Netflix no longer saw a way forward with the production. On March 18, 2021, Ms. Gerson informed Mr. Rinsch by email that Netflix had decided to stop funding “Conquest.” She told him that he was free to shop it elsewhere but that any acquirer would have to reimburse Netflix for what it had spent.

Mr. Rinsch sent angry emails to Ms. Gerson and a Netflix lawyer, accusing them of breaching his contract. In one email, he addressed the subject of his mental health. “To state it simply, I am of sound mind and body,” he wrote.

Mr. Rinsch had begun using what remained of the $11 million that Netflix had wired his production company to place bets on crypto. He transferred more than $4 million from his Schwab account to an account on the Kraken exchange and bought Dogecoin, a dog-themed cryptocurrency, according to an account statement reviewed by The Times. Unlike his stock market investments, this one paid off: When he liquidated his Dogecoin positions in May 2021, he had a balance of nearly $27 million.

“Thank you and god bless crypto,” an elated Mr. Rinsch wrote in an online chat with a Kraken representative.

Mr. Rinsch then went on a spending spree. He bought five Rolls-Royces, a Ferrari, a $387,630 Vacheron Constantin watch and millions of dollars’ worth of high-end furniture and designer clothing. The tab came to $8.7 million, according to a forensic accountant hired by Ms. Rosés.

By then, Mr. Rinsch’s divorce from Ms. Rosés had turned acrimonious. Her legal team suspected that the purchases were designed to hide Mr. Rinsch’s crypto winnings.

Mr. Rinsch responded in a deposition that the cars and furniture were props for “Conquest” and that he had paid for them with Netflix’s production money. But in his arbitration case with Netflix, he took a different position: In confidential filings reviewed by The Times, he argued that the money was contractually his and that Netflix owed him several more payments totaling more than $14 million.

Netflix disagrees. In a motion it filed in July, the company said the payments were contingent on Mr. Rinsch’s hitting various production milestones, which it contends he never did. The case went to a hearing before an arbitrator this month. A ruling is expected soon.

Taika Waititi has revealed a major update ahead of his upcoming Star Wars film.

The next film in the sci-fi franchise will be directed and co-written by the 48-year-old actor and filmmaker behind Thor: Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit.

Fans of the Star Wars series got the surprise back in 2020. But despite three years of silence about the production, Waititi has finally shared a promising update.

“Right now I’m still developing something with them,” he said Entertainment tonight.

‘Just like me, they have many projects underway. I think they’ll continue with it until I finish these other projects.”

He added: “I have about four other scripts I’m trying to finish. My thing is that I want to take my time and do it well. I don’t want to rush this movie.’

In 2020, news of the next Star Wars installment came out via StarWars.com in celebration of May 4, an unofficial holiday in honor of the series.

The script will be co-written by writer Krysty Wilson-Cairns, who earned an Oscar nomination for her work at the 1917 January ceremony.

While a release date has yet to be announced, Waititi is no stranger to the George Lucas-created universe.

The Kiwi talent directed the season finale of Disney+’s The Mandalorian and played the role of droid IG-11.

The director/writer/actor has already proven that he can handle a blockbuster with his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Thor: Ragnarok grossed $854 million, becoming the highest-grossing film of the Thor trilogy.

Waititi’s latest project is Next Goal Wins, which will be released in January 2024.

Next Goal Wins is based on the true story of the American Samoa football team who infamously lost 31-0 to Australia in a World Cup qualifier.

Set in 2014, the comedy follows the team’s attempt to qualify for that year’s FIFA World Cup after hiring a hapless coach to try to turn around the heirs’ fortunes.

Actor Will Arnett takes on the role of an executive at the American Samoa Football Federation, replacing Armie Hammer for the role, while Michael Fassbender stars as a coach.
