After a flight attendant said NEVER wear Crocs on a plane – here’s a traveler argues why you should ALWAYS wear Crocs on a flight

Backless footwear has recently come under fire for being unsuitable for air travel, with an American Airlines flight attendant saying it poses a safety risk.

said Andrea Fischbach whattowear.co.uk that “backless sandals make it difficult to evacuate the plane quickly… [and] can also fly off your feet,” adding that “your feet are more likely to freeze, especially on a long flight.”

Does this mean passengers shouldn’t wear the very popular Crocs sandals on flights?

Andrea’s comment suggests yes, but one traveler has countered that there are Crocs with ankle straps that are ideal for flights because they are both comfortable and secure.

author Adam Eracefrom South Philadelphia, wrote a love letter to Crocs and their suitability for air travel an article on CNN in January, explaining that he wore them on a flight to Orlando and found them easy to put on and take off at security and that he arrived at his destination with “pretty good” feet. He added: ‘[There was] none of the thrill or throbbing I usually experience, even in my comfiest sneakers, after trudging through two airports.”

Backless footwear, such as Crocs, has recently come under fire for being unsuitable for air travel. But writer Adam Erace has said Crocs are actually great for air travel

In an email to MailOnline Travel this week, he reiterated his belief that Crocs are just the ticket to air travel.

He said, “Unless you’re traveling on business or traveling first class, existing as a human on an airplane is usually an uncomfortable physical experience.

“My approach is not to let what I’m wearing exacerbate that discomfort. Crocs keep my feet soft and cool, and it’s not just about sitting on the plane, but walking long distances through the airport.

“I really recommend them, with one caveat: never without socks. I’m not a monster.’

Are there any drawbacks?

He said, “For me, there are no downsides to wearing Crocs. When I first started I expected a lot of side glances, but instead I noticed that a lot more passengers were wearing them too.’

And what did he think of Andrea’s concerns about safety?

He said, “I’d leave it to a flight attendant’s expertise, of course, but without knowing more details, it seems Crocs would be a particularly reliable shoe in an emergency.

“Easy to put on/take off, no sharp edges or heels to pierce an evacuation slide, and when fastened with the ankle straps they don’t fly off your feet like sandals or loosely tied sneakers.”
