FORMER cop Wayne Couzens was given a life sentence for the 2021 murder of Sarah Everard.

The monster will spend the rest of his life locked up without chance of parole after kidnapping and killing the marketing manager.

Who is Wayne Couzens?

Couzens is a former metropolitan police agent who killed Sara Everard.

He lived in the coastal town of Deal with his wife and their two young children when he was arrested six days after the young woman went missing.

Couzens had previously worked as a light vehicle body repairman in a garage run by his father Dover.

He left his job as a mechanic in 2011 to follow in his brother David’s footsteps and became a police officer.

The killer first joined the Civilian Core Police before transferring to the Met in September 2018.

There he worked as an armed diplomatic protection officer based in Westminster and guarded embassies and high-profile potential targets.

What happened to Sarah Everard?

Sara disappeared on March 3, 2021after leaving a friend’s house in Clapham, South London.

She said goodbye to her friend around 9pm and started walking back to her home in Brixton.

She 15 minutes on the phone with her boyfriend as she walked and was captured on CCTV in Clapham at 9.30pm.

But Sarah never came home and her boyfriend reported her missing on March 4.

A huge police investigation was launched to find her and on March 9, detectives investigate Sarah’s disappearance accused a serving Met police officer in his forties – later identified as Couzens.

From Sara body was subsequently discovered in a wood in Ashford, Knowsa week after she disappeared.

The post-mortem results showed that Sarah died of neck compression and that she had been raped.

Couzens used his arrest warrant to lure Sarah into his car, it was revealed during his sentencing.

He claimed he was on a ‘Covid patrol’ and used lockdown laws to stage her false arrest earlier the driving its over 80 miles from London to Kent.

Where is Wayne Couzens now?

As of March 2024, Sarah’s killer has been serving his life sentence HMP Frankland in Durham.

Couzens had previously been locked up in HMP Belmarsh in London.

He pleaded guilty until Sarah’s murder in July 2021, after earlier pleaded guilty to kidnapping and rape.

In September of that year he was given a life sentence was told he would die in prison.

Only 61 criminals in Great Britain have been given this punishment and Couzens is the first British officer to ever receive this punishment.

Lord Justice Fulford

Lord Justice Fulford explained at the time that the rare conviction was handed down because Couzens had abused his position as Police officer.

The judge said: “Sarah Everard was a completely innocent victim of a grotesquely executed series of circumstances that culminated in her death and the disposal of her body. She just walked home.”

He added that Couzens had committed “twisted, selfish and brutal transgressions that were both sexual and murderous” and said: “Sarah’s state of mind, and what she had to endure, would have been as bleak and painful as you can imagine.”

Couzens has appealed against his sentence in October 2021, but this was rejected by the court Court of appeal in July 2022.

In March 2023 Couzens was convicted up to another 19 months jail for flashing a cyclist while he was on duty and exposing himself to it McDonald‘s staff before he killed Sarah.

He pleaded guilty to three indecent exposure offenses in February 2023.

A February 2024 report revealed how Couzens had tried to kidnap a woman with a knife and sexually assaulted a young girl before killing Sarah.

The Angiolini investigation report also stated that Couzens had raped two women, which only came forward after his arrest for Sarah’s murder.

Couzen’s actions have fueled the demand for action tackling violence against womenboth and for There is an urgent need to make changes to the police force.

Damn report

Angiolini’s groundbreaking investigative report has concluded that Couzens should never have been a police officer.

These are the key findings from the report:

  • Couzens is alleged to have committed a “very serious sexual assault” on a young girl when he was in his 20s
  • He was also accused of attempting to kidnap a woman at knifepoint in north London in 1995
  • The father of two was further accused by two women of raping them
  • One of the complainants alleged that Couzens assaulted her at a singles dating event in an east London bar between late 2006 and early 2007.
  • The other alleged that she was raped by Couzens under a bridge in London in October 2019
  • In the summer of that year, a man in drag with a blonde wig claimed that Couzens had touched him inappropriately in a bar in Kent.
