Ten Maoists are killed in the gunfight in Sukma, 207 this year
RAIPUR: Ten Maoists, including three women, were shot dead by security forces in Bastar’s Sukma on Friday. This is the largest encounter since the October 3 gunfight in which 38 Maoists were killed. The Maoist death toll this year has now risen to 207, with 15 people killed this week alone.
An AK-47, an Insas rifle and an SLR camera were among the ten weapons seized on Friday. Maoists’ South Bastar division ‘military leadership’, Madkam Masawho carried a bounty of Rs 8 lakh was eliminated. Five other cadres were identified as divisional commander of ‘small action team’ Lakhma Madvi, who had a bounty of Rs 5 lakh, Doodhi Hungi, member of platoon 4, and cadres Madkam Jitu, Madkam Kosi and Kovasi Kesa, who had bounties of Rs 2 each lakh contributed.
Four dead Maoists are yet to be identified. Bastar range IG P ​​Sundarraj said the operation was planned based on the inputs that Maoists were on their way in Bhandarpadar region.
CRPF and DRG troops moved on three fronts to intercept the Maoists. A day ago, Odisha police had intercepted a group trying to cross to Sukma in Malkangiri. One Maoist was killed and other cadres dispersed.
Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai said, “The priority of our government is progress and security in Bastar.”

Maoists on Thursday put to death two tribal brothers, one of them a panchayat secretary, in Mulugu in Telangana, accusing them of being ‘police informers’, Srinath Vudali reports. Eight Maoists reached the house of Uika Ramesh Peruru, 36, and Uika Arjun, 35, attacked them with an axe, killed them and escaped, police said.
