12 who have repeatedly defeated anti-incumbency
PUNE: While many sitting MLAs in Maharashtra are facing anti-incumbency issues, there are 12 who have managed to win their seats for more than five consecutive terms, including three who remained undefeated seven times in a row from the same constituency. At least eleven are back in the poll arena.
Late PWPI leader Ganpatrao Deshmukh was the longest-serving MLA in the history of Maharashtra as he was elected to the state assembly from Sangola for eleven consecutive terms. Among the current serving MLAs in the state, Congress MLA Balasaheb Torah is the eldest, having won the Sangamner seat for eight consecutive terms since 1985 and now looking to win for the ninth time.
Twelve MLAs defeat anti-incumbency by retaining the same seat

Other MLAs who remained undefeated in their constituencies for a longer period include Dilip Walse Patil from Ambegaon and Jayant Patil from Islampur, who won seven consecutive terms since 1990. Deputy CM Ajit Pawar also won all the Assembly elections from Baramati after first winning an election. elections here in 1991. Babanrao Shinde, the former MLA of NCP (undivided), who won from Madha constituency for six consecutive terms, is not contesting the elections this time. His son Ranjit Shinde has entered the fray as an independent.
There are also five legislators who have remained undefeated in their respective constituencies since 1995, while three others have not lost any parliamentary elections since 1990. When asked how he manages to defeat the anti-incumbency, Balasaheb Thorat said: “The most important thing is to have a clear vision, and we have to sincerely work hard for that.”
