3-year-old male tiger added to Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan | India News – Times of India
A three-year-old male tiger, renamed RVT-4, was successfully translocated from Haryana to Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan. The tiger, previously in the Sariska Tiger Reserve, was tranquilized and fitted with a radio collar for monitoring. In two weeks he will be released into the main reserve, where he will join a small existing tiger population.
RVTR divisional forest officer Sanjeev Sharma said the tiger was introduced into the enclosure around 5.30 am on Monday and is likely to be released into the forest two weeks later.
A radio collar was attached to the tiger for monitoring. RVT-4 had normal movement in the enclosure and drank some water and rested later in the day, he added.
Activists welcomed the addition of the big cat to the tiger reserve, saying it will promote wildlife tourism, but said another female tiger should be added to avoid a conflict between RVT-1 and the new tiger.
RVT-3 is the only adult female tiger in the reserve. The two cubs, also females, are 20 months old.
RVT-4, the new tiger, is said to have an aggressive tiger. He was previously kept in the Sariska Tiger Reserve but was on the prowl for his territory, making it difficult for the forest department to keep tabs on him.
Several attempts were made to calm it down and it was finally calmed down around 6:30 PM on Sunday. It was shifted to the Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve after a female tiger, RVT-2, died last month.
