40 expelled by BJP for anti-party activities
MUMBAI: Late on Tuesday, the BJP expelled 40 office-bearers from constituencies where the party and its allies have fielded candidates. While releasing the list of those expelled, including two from Jogeshwari East and Magathane, the party said the action was taken for violating party discipline and taking action against the organisation.
Jogeshwari East and Magathane are contested by Sena. Such deportations usually last six years.
The BJP faced large-scale rebellion against its candidates and those of allies, with nearly ten party members, including former MP Gopal Shetty and a number of sitting and former MLAs, filing their nominations. The party caused many of them to withdraw from the race.
Meanwhile, newly appointed BJP vice-president Ravi Raja sought the disqualification of Sion-Koliwada Congress candidate Ganesh Yadav for misusing his photographs to gain votes. Raja recently quit the Congress after he was denied a ticket for the seat.
