50-something makeup artist reveals eyeliner trick that will take years off her look
INSTAGRAM is buzzing with makeup tips that promise to turn back the clock.
There are tons of tutorials and tips on how to keep your eyes youthful with the eyeliner trick, as well as tips on how to use blush to hide those pesky wrinkles.
Women are increasingly relying on word of mouth when it comes to beauty advice.
According to research by Vitabiotics Perfectil, seven out of ten people swear by advice they received from older friends or family members.
With social media being flooded with tips and tutorials, who better to give you tips than a beautician with 30 years of experience?
Midlife make-up artist and influencer Kate Hughes has 30 years of experience in the sector and knows from personal experience what skin problems women face when they reach a certain age.
“I understand the frustration when your outside doesn’t match how you feel inside,” says Kate, 54. “As I approached 50, I felt a little invisible. My skin became much drier and lost some of its shine. Menopause also played a part.
“Wrong techniques, colors, and certain textures can be a game-changer as we get older. However, with a few simple tricks, you can restore that youthful glow and clarity.”
Here, Kate reveals some quick and super easy secrets for a fresher, more modern look.
Oh so natural eyebrows
To give your face a natural lift, focus on the eyebrows.
I use a pencil, which is soft but sharp, to give my brows a long tail and make sure to use a brush to brush the hairs up.
Beauty lovers should avoid drawing eyebrows straight down as this will give a tired look.
The NYX Thick it Stick it brow mascara, which costs £11 at Superdrug, is also great for this.
Soft eyeshadow
Give your eyes a touch of eyeliner and instantly create a more youthful appearance.
Use an angled eyeshadow brush and opt for chestnut brown eyeshadow instead of black, as it is gentler on mature skin.
Make sure you start where the hairs start and draw your line really close to the lashes and then sweep it up at the end. This will give it some lift.
Don’t start in the corner and draw it all the way through, or the eye will droop.
This technique can also be done with an eyeliner pencil. I recommend the Rimmel ScandalEyes which is currently £2.24 at LOOKFANTASTIC.
Bronzer and blush
Create a fresh glow by using bronzer and blush together.
Apply the bronzer nicely high on the cheekbones and use what is left on the brush for the rest of your face.
Then apply the blush to the cheekbones for an extra fresh glow.
Applying blusher and bronzer too low under the cheeks can pull the face down and make it look tired. We want a nice, lifted look.
Choose a product with a subtle sheen to make it glow, but be careful not to use too much as you don’t want to accentuate fine lines or wrinkles. I like using Maybelline City Bronzer which is £8.99 from Boots.
Lips hitchhiker
For a fuller, fresher look, concentrate on your lips and where you apply your eyeliner.
Very lightly draw your lip liner over your lips, leaving the inner corners of your lips completely exposed.
This lifts the lips and does not pull the corners down.
Be careful not to apply the lip liner too far into the corners as this can cause your lips to sag.
Don’t be afraid of a bold colour – a bold colour can really boost your confidence. I like using elf Cream Glide Lip liner, which is £3 at elf UK.
Six Anti-Aging Tips Everyone Should Start Using at 30
Renowned skincare expert and beautician Sadaf Jaffari reveals her best anti-aging tips that will make you look 10 years younger
1. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
Your skin’s best friend is water. Drink and hydrate daily to maintain that youthful glow.
2. SPF is your best friend
Sunscreen isn’t just for the beach. Apply it every morning, rain or shine — your future self will thank you!
3. Get a good night’s sleep
Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep per night. Your skin repairs itself while you sleep, so don’t skimp on sleep.
4. Apply serum!
Add a vitamin C serum to your morning routine and a retinol product at night. These powerhouses help brighten skin and smooth fine lines.
5. Eat the rainbow
Fill your plate with colorful fruits and vegetables. Antioxidants from nature’s rainbow naturally fight wrinkles.
6. Laugh often
Happiness is the ultimate anti-aging secret. Surround yourself with joy and you will naturally radiate youth.
These tips from Sad and a consistent skin care routine are all you need to maintain a youthful and radiant complexion.
