NEW DELHI: Around 6.7 lakh SIM cards and 1.3 lakh IMEIs suspected to be related to cybercrime have been blocked by the government till November 15 this year, the Union Home Ministry informed Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
Detailing the mechanisms put in place to tackle cybercrime, Home Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar said the Central government and telecom service providers (TSPs) have come up with a system to identify and identify incoming international spoofed calls from cybercriminals in recent cases of digital arrests block. “FedEx scams” ​​and impersonating government or police officers, among other things.
“Instructions have been issued to TSPs for blocking such calls,” Kumar said in a written reply to a question in the House of Representatives.
The ministry said the ‘Citizen Financial Cyber ​​Fraud Reporting and Management System’, under I4C, was launched in 2021 for immediate reporting of financial fraud and to stop money siphoning by fraudsters. So far, a financial amount of over Rs 3,431 crore has been saved in over 9.9 lakh complaints.
