A pick -up truck and a passenger bus with a tour group collided on Thursday evening in Idaho near Yellowstone National Park, killing seven people, said the Idaho State Police. Both vehicles fought fire after the crash.
Six of the killed were in the van, a Mercedes, which wore 14 people, the State Police said. The driver of the pick -up, a Dodge Ram, was also killed.
The crash happened just before 7.15 pm on US Highway 20 nearby Henry’s LakeA popular place for walking, cycling and fishing in Easternaho, about 15 miles from Yellowstone. The cause was investigated.
The Said the state police That the authorities had called on an air ambulance and other air and ground sources to respond to the crash because of the severity of the injuries.
The Coroner of Fremont County, Brenda Dye, identified the driver and only occupant of the pick -up as Isaiah Moreno, 25, from Texas. Mrs. Dye said she was waiting for the results of DNA tests to identify the six people in the van who were killed because the bodies were unrecognizable.
All six were from outside the United States, Mrs. Dye said in an interview on Friday. Two came from Italy, she said, and it was not clear where the other four came from. They were part of a group touring through Yellowstone, she said.
After the crash, two others jumped out of their vehicle on the highway to help, she said. They tried to “take off as much as possible if they could,” from the van, that smoke broadcast, said Mrs. Dye. She said they managed to help eight people out of the van, including a child, before the van caught fire.
US Highway 20 was closed for almost seven hours, while the care providers and the Idaho Transportation Department worked to manage the scene and clear the roadway, the State Police said.
