8 railway services notified as sub-framework under IRMS
NEW DELHI: Just days after the HR department (DoPT) allowed railroads to recruit engineers through two different surveys, the Railway Board has informed that eight streams will now come under the Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS), which the cabinet had approved in 2019.
The eight services have been notified under IRMS as a “sub-cadre” and include traffic, accounts, personnel, civil electricity, mechanical, signal and telecommunications and shops. recruitment The first four services will be taken through the Civil Services Exam (CSE) and the remaining will be taken through the Engineering Services Exam (ESE). Earlier, there was only one CSE exam for recruitment under IRMS.
This move comes as a big relief to aspiring railway engineers. The notified rules are seen as an attempt to strike a balance between the 2019 cabinet decision to have a uniform service but also to ensure that the railways get both technical and non-technical manpower.
According to the notification, the entire IRMS cadre will have a total sanctioned strength of 8,458 and a maximum of 1,961 will be under the civil engineering category, followed by 1,356 under mechanical and 1,101 under traffic.
