NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs has announced that both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will not meet on December 26 to celebrate ‘Constitution Day’.
The winter session of Parliament will begin on November 25 and is expected to end on December 20, depending on the government’s business requirements.
Ahead of the Winter Session, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju will meet with leaders of political parties from both Houses of Parliament. The all-party discussion is scheduled on November 24 at 11 am in the Main Committee Room of Parliament House, New Delhi, chaired by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. The government plans to advance the Waqf Amendment Bill, which is currently under review by the Joint Parliamentary Committee. , during this session. Moreover, the ‘One Nation One Election’ bill could be introduced.
The Joint Parliamentary Committee examining the Waqf Amendment Bills 2024 continues to hold meetings in various states, engaging with various stakeholders to address concerns and build consensus on this contentious legislation, ANI reported.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently highlighted his government’s commitment to implement ‘One Nation One Election’, which will seek simultaneous elections to Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
He stated, “We are now working towards One Nation One Election, which will strengthen Indian democracy, deliver optimal returns from India’s resources and give new impetus to the country in realizing the dream of a developed India. Today, India is moving towards One Nation. One Civil Code that is a secular Civil Code.”

In response, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge rejected the feasibility of this concept.
