Atishi launches solar portal in Delhi; will help power consumers become 'prosumers'
NEW DELHI: Delhi Prime Minister Atishi on Wednesday launched the ‘Delhi sun portal‘ as a single window solution for installation solar panels on the roof by the people in the city. Delhiites can now become ‘prosumers‘ (power consumers who generate extra solar energy) by placing solar panels on the roof using the portal.
Launching the portal at the Delhi Secretariat, Atishi said it will help achieve the target of 750 MW rooftop solar energy generationaccording to the solar policy of the AAP government launched on March 14 this year.
By installing solar panels on the roof, consumers with a monthly energy consumption of more than 400 units can also enjoy subsidy benefitsshe said at a press conference.
The portal provides all the information needed for the installation of roof panels. It will have a solar calculator to estimate the solar power generation capacity on a specific roof, the savings to be made, a list of suppliers and the number of solar power plants, she said.
Also request for net metering and subsidy could be submitted through the portal and consumers would not need to visit any office for the same, Atishi said.
Domestic power consumers who will generate additional solar energy beyond their needs will be paid generation-based incentive by the government at the rate of Rs 3/unit, the chief minister said.
Power consumers who generate additional solar power (technically called prosumers) will be paid at the rate of Rs 3 per unit for solar power plants up to 3 kW and Rs 2 per unit for plants up to 10 kW, a senior government official said.
Group housing societies and residents welfare associations will also avail the generation-based incentive of Rs 2 per unit for installation of roof panels, the officer said.
Commercial and industrial consumers will benefit from the incentive of Re 1 per unit, the officer said, adding that a 1 kW installation generates around 100 units and the installation cost of plants ranges from Rs 40,000-60,000 per kW.
A national subsidy of Rs 78,000 will be provided for installation of 3 kW solar power plant. The Delhi government is offering an additional subsidy of Rs 2,000 per kW for up to 5 kW, he added.
