Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi move to ENGLAND after Trump wins, as they become the latest stars to flee the US
Ellen DeGeneres is making a quick exit from the United States – seemingly for good.
The 66-year-old talk show host, comedian and actress has moved to rural England, according to a new report in The cover.
DeGeneres is settling in Britain with her wife Portia de Rossi, 51, and they reportedly have no plans to return to the US.
To underscore the apparent permanence of the move, the couple has put their Montecito townhouse on the market.
A person close to the former Ellen DeGeneres Show host claimed that she and De Rossi skipped town mainly in response to the 2024 presidential election, in which Donald Trump won a second non-consecutive term.
DailyMail.com reached out to a former representative of DeGeneres for comment, but she no longer represents the comedian following the conclusion of her latest stand-up tour.
Ellen DeGeneres, 66, and her wife Portia de Rossi, 51, have fled the US and moved to rural England, The Wrap reported on Wednesday; pictured in 2022 in San Francisco, California.
DeGeneres and de Rossi have reportedly put their Bali-inspired mansion in Montecito, California, up for sale amid their move to Britain. They purchased the house in 2019
The couple now reportedly lives in the Cotswolds, a rural part of south-west England, about 100 miles from London.
The area is popular with celebrities who want to avoid the hustle and bustle of London, which would make sense for DeGeneres and Rossi since they had already tried to avoid Los Angeles by moving to Montecito in Santa Barbara County, about 75 miles from LA.
Ellen and Portia will have many famous neighbors. Stars with properties in the Cotswolds include David and Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss, Patrick Stewart, Elizabeth Hurley and Damien Hirst.
Kate Winslet also once had a country house in the area, although it is unclear whether she still lives there, and it has been rumored for years that Hugh Grant has a small hideaway in the Cotswolds.
Sources said TMZ that DeGeneres and de Rossi had already purchased their new Cotswolds home before the 2024 presidential election.
However, following Trump’s victory, the married couple became “very disillusioned”, with a source claiming they subsequently vowed to “fly the hell out” of the US.
Despite reportedly leaving the US due to the election and Donald Trump’s impending second administration, DeGeneres had plenty of reasons for a fresh start away from home.
Her career was tarnished – likely permanently – by allegations that she fostered a toxic workplace on the set of her eponymous daytime talk show, the final episode of which aired on May 26, 2022.

She delved into her persona non grata status in her stand-up special For Your Approval, which was released on Netflix in late September.
The comedian joked that she had been “kicked out of show business” in the special, which featured material about how she has been spending her time since her TV show ended.
According to The Wrap, DeGeneres and de Rossi have listed or will soon list their Bali-inspired Montecito mansion.
The comedian and Australian actress bought the massive home in 2019 for a whopping $27 million.
The mansion features five bedrooms and ten bathrooms spread over 8,188 square feet.
It is unclear what the new asking price for the country house will be.
