The third joint military exercise between India and Australia 'AustraHind' will end in Pune
PUNE: The third edition of the India-Australia joint military exercise,’AustraliaHindconcluded at the Foreign Training Node in Pune in Maharashtra on Thursday.
The closing ceremony was attended by General Officer Commanding, 36 RAPID, Major General KTG Krishnan, and Commander of the 2nd Australian Division, Major General David Thomae.
The two-week training programme, aimed at improving cooperation and interoperability between the two nations’ armed forces, took place from November 8 to 21.
According to an official press release, the participants practiced combat scenarios such as raiding an enemy target and providing first aid to wounded soldiers. These exercises are intended to improve coordination and build mutual understanding between the Indian and Australian armed forces.
As part of the social and cultural activities of the exercise, both contingents took part in an excursion to the historic Sinhagad Fort near Pune, providing a cultural and historical experience. The Australian contingent also had the opportunity to visit the prestigious National Defense Academy (NDA) in Khadakwasla, Pune on November 12.
“During the visit, participants were familiarized with the NDA’s state-of-the-art training facilities and had the opportunity to interact with the teaching staff, providing them with an insight into the academy’s rigorous training environment and its legacy of discipline and excellence in shaping future military skills. leaders,” the press release said.
AustraHind 2024 underlines the strong and growing defense ties between India and Australia as both countries continue to work together to strengthen regional security and promote closer military cooperation, the release said.
The exercise began in 2022 in Rajasthan and has since grown into an annual event held alternately in India and Australia.
The last edition of the same exercise was held in Perth, Australia in December 2023.
