Airline passenger divides opinion after making matcha latte during flight
People’s in-flight routines are becoming increasingly elaborate, but one woman is dividing opinions after making herself an ice-cold matcha latte in mid-air.
Australian content creator Riley Hemson sparked the debate after posting a video of her travel buddy, Jaz Hand, who was mixing a mysterious green drink with a mini whiskey.
‘I can’t believe she’s doing this on the plane’ she wrote in disbelief with her hand over her mouth.
It appears that both women are in first class, as Jaz produces a plastic Blank Street cup and matcha powder for her to drink.
She starts by sifting the powder into a bowl before putting it in a glass, adding water and whisking it.
Separately, she put a handful of ice cubes in a plastic cup and poured in milk and the matcha mix.
Riley posted a second video of herself sipping her own matcha that Jaz made for her, assuring viewers that she enjoyed it – despite her expression.
“I actually saw it all,” Riley captioned the clip.

Matcha powder is a type of finely ground green tea.
The clip divided viewers, with many swinging between confusion and praise for feeling comfortable on the flight.
“Socially unacceptable,” one user stated.
“It’s real dedication to the matcha addiction,” another joked.
‘I once sat next to someone who brought out a loaf of bread, a jar of peanut butter and a jar of jelly and proceeded to make sandwiches. good times,” someone else shared.
“Hey, this is crazy… And I’m 110 percent for this and fully support it. ICONIC behavior,” another added.
Whipping up an ice-cold matcha isn’t the craziest thing ever done on an airplane.
In September, an influencer was criticized by people with gluten allergies after filming herself making a loaf of sourdough during a long-haul flight from the US to Spain.

Maria Baradell, who is originally from Venezuela but now lives in Dallas, Texas, flew to the European country via Chicago to visit her sister.
She said she wanted to surprise her sibling with a fresh loaf of bread since her social media focuses on baking dough.
In Maria’s video, she films herself at the airport before boarding her flight, revealing that the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) had to “check her bag” before she went through security because she had “suspicious items” packed.
This included several bags of powder, including flour and sourdough starter, made from yeast.
Maria then films herself adding water to a bowl, sourdough starter – a living culture of wild yeasts and bacteria – along with flour and salt.
She then mixed the bread together before covering it with a towel, hoping the dough would rise.
Some time later, Maria picked up her dough again and began folding it before letting it rest during the bulk fermentation process.
Maria then reached her sister’s house, where the leaven was left to rise cold for twenty hours.
The baker then scored it before baking it in her oven and she was very pleased with the result.
Maria wrote: ‘It was amazing, made with love!’
However, viewers of the clip were far from impressed, with many noting that her decision to bake bread on board did not take into account those with allergies.
