Prime Minister Modi at Guyana House: India has renounced expansionism | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: India has never moved forward with selfishness or in a spirit of expansionism and has always refrained from grabbing resources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in an address to Guyana’s parliament. Modi on Thursday became the first Indian prime minister to address Guyana’s parliament.
“We have always stayed away from the sense of occupying and seizing resources. I believe that whether it concerns space or the sea, these should not be subjects of universal conflict but of universal cooperation,” Modi said. The US country is also the first by an Indian Prime Minister in 56 years.
Modi said this is not the time for conflict for the world, but the time to identify the conditions that cause conflict and eliminate them. “Today there are many such challenges, such as terrorism, drugs and cybercrime, and only by tackling them will we be able to improve the future of our future generations. And this is only possible if we put democracy first – humanity first.” Modi said, adding that this was the time for the awakening of the Global South and for the developing countries to remain united.
“This is an opportunity for us to work together and create a new world order,” Modi said, adding that India has always worked on the basis of trust, transparency and principles.
The Prime Minister also said that India stands for global development and peace. “With this spirit, today India has also become the voice of the Global South. India believes that the Global South has suffered a lot in the past. We have made progress in the past by conserving nature according to our nature and values. But many countries developed while damaging the environment,” Modi said.
“Today, the countries of the South are paying the highest price for climate change. It is very important to bring the world out of this imbalance,” he added.
Modi also called for prioritizing women-led development to achieve greater global progress and prosperity. “He urged greater exchanges between the two countries in the fields of education and innovation so that the potential of the youth could be fully realized. He conveyed India’s steadfast support to the Caribbean and thanked (Guyyan) President Irfaan Ali for organizing the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit,” the Indian government said in a statement.
