The Election Commission has announced that counting of votes will begin at 8 a.m. on November 23.
Important alliances in battle
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) – The ruling party, which is part of the INDIA alliance (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance). JMM, led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, is trying to maintain control over the state.
National Democratic Alliance (NDA) – Led by the BJP, this alliance includes the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU), Janata Dal (United) and other allies. The NDA aims to oust the ruling JMM and the INDIA alliance in Jharkhand.
Exit poll results:
After the voting ended, the exit poll results were released. A compilation by TOI and reports on X from official news media revealed divergent predictions:
1. Four out of seven exit polls were in favor of the NDA
2. One predicted a neck-and-neck match.
3. Two polls gave the opposition INDIA bloc an edge
The EC guidelines ensure that exit polls are only published after the polls have concluded, to avoid any influence on voters.
Voter turnout
In the Jharkhand Assembly elections, voter turnout was robust, with significant participation in both phases.
The first phase of voting on November 13, which covered 43 constituencies, saw a turnout of almost 67%. The second phase, which concluded on November 20, saw a higher turnout: 68.45% of eligible voters cast their votes in 38 constituencies.
During the second phase, a notable trend emerged: women’s turnout exceeded men’s in more than 85% of constituencies, reflecting strong participation of women voters in the state’s democratic process.
With the final phase completed, all eyes are now on the counting of votes, scheduled for November 23, for the 81-member Jharkhand Legislative Assembly.
Competitions in key constituencies
The results for the 81 Assembly constituencies are highly anticipated, with several high-stakes battles expected in constituencies with prominent candidates. Observers keep a close eye on these matches as they can have a major impact on the overall outcome.
