Baby essential hitting shelves fetch £50 on eBay but leaves mums sobbing
IT IS considered a baby essential by millions of mothers.
But due to a shortage of Metanium diaper cream, many parents are having difficulty obtaining one.
Laura went to TikTok She admitted she was astonished to see how much the cream – which has the famous yellow color – fetched on auction site eBay, as people try to make a ‘quick buck’.
Laura, also known as the Side Money Mummy, held up a tube of cream and said: “These yellow tubes of Metanium nappy rash ointment are out of stock and people are using this as an opportunity to make a quick buck.
“Even companies are getting in on this and this website is trying to sell it for £50.
“This person is selling four for £200!”

While Laura is no stranger to a side hustle and is always looking for different ways to make money, she insisted she “draws the line” at trying to make money from a shortage of something moms rely on.
“As a mother of two young children, it really angers me that people would use a shortage like this as an opportunity to make a quick profit,” she continued.
‘You could say that these people are doing a favor by offering a tube to people who cannot get one themselves.
“But if it were me and I had a spare tire that I hadn’t used, I would give it to someone else for free, or at least only charge the original purchase price.
“I wouldn’t try to take advantage of this.”
Laura concluded her post by urging anyone trying to make a profit from the cream to look at her page and see “all the other ways you can make money online without having to scam people”.
“You can resell these for £50?!?!” Laura captioned the video.
“I just saw this on Vinted too,” someone wondered in the comments.
“I would never do that,” another added.
“I have four tubes in case someone is in need,” a third commented.
“Waitrose has it in stock… £4.70m,” someone else wrote.
As Laura replied: “Absolute madness that people would try to sell it for as much as £50!”
How to Save Money on Diapers
Buying diapers and other baby supplies can be an expensive job, but parents are only now realizing there is a trick that can save them money.
If you have a newborn or multiple little ones to care for, you can really see your expenses increase.
A money-saving mother was shocked to discover she could have saved money on diapers for years.
She posted her find on the Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK.
The mother wrote: “If you haven’t already and you have little ones who are still in diapers, download the ‘Pampers Club App’.
“You can earn coupons and don’t forget to use the code to redeem a £6 coupon straight away.”
She wasn’t the only one to discover the deal, as the post generated more than thirty comments from equally surprised parents eager to share in the bargain.
One social media user wrote: “I wish I would have known this when my son was born.”
Another tagged his friend and said: “Did you watch this?!”
A third added: “Ohhh yeah, I’ll give it a try!”
Essentially, every pack of Pampers diapers you buy has a code on the inside of the box. If you scan that code in the Pampers Club app, you will receive a stamp.
The app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or from the Google Play Store on Android.
You get one point per diaper in a pack, so the larger the packs, the more points you receive.
For example, if you scan a code in a pack of 86 diapers, you will receive 86 points.
You can then redeem your points for discount vouchers that you can redeem at stores such as Tesco, Asda, Boots, Morrisons or Sainsbury’s.
Plus, Pampers is currently offering £6 off Pampers nappies in Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Coop or Boots.
“That sold for £200 on eBay,” another commented.
“My daughter needs this cream, nothing else works.
“Some people are just greedy and ask for so much.”
“Are you kidding it sold?” Laura exclaimed.
“That’s actually terrible that people did this!”
The Sun contacted representatives from manufacturers Thornton & Ross, who confirmed the cream is no longer available.
“Thornton & Ross has made the decision to discontinue Metanium Nappy Rash Ointment,” they said.
“This is due to restrictions that have impacted our ability to ensure consistent supply and maintain the high standards of excellence we strive for in all our products.”
They added: “We understand that Metanium Diaper Rash Ointment was a prized product and we assure you that this decision was not taken lightly.
“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that discontinuing Metanium Diaper Rash Ointment may cause.”
