Nominated game of the year, metaphor ReFantazio, at a record low price for Black Friday
November is historically known as the busiest time of year for video games, with numerous major releases typically coming out around that time. Thanks to Black Friday, things are proving to be just as exciting, with plenty of opportunities to walk away with the latest titles at low prices. That’s certainly true today, with Metaphor: ReFantazio on PlayStation 5 And Xbox Series X/S to a new low price of $50 just over a month after launch. These discounted prices are available at both Amazon and Walmart.
The JRPG was developed by Atlus subsidiary Studio Zero – best known for the Persona series – and is set in an alternate United Kingdom, where an orphaned boy must participate in a royal tournament to help decide the successor to the throne. It has already sold over a million copies, but it’s quite surprising that the game has dropped 29% so soon after release.

CNET Senior Reporter Imad Khan went hands-on with Metaphor: ReFantazio and summarized: “While the fantasy world isn’t particularly deep or interesting, it doesn’t detract from the overall gameplay. Even though it’s a retread of previous Persona formulas, it’s polished and provides a satisfying gameplay loop.”
That said, the game received a hugely positive score of 94 Metacriticalso the general consensus was largely positive. This led to the title receiving a nomination for Game of the Year at the 2024 Game Awards.
Why this deal matters
It’s not often that a game that sells incredibly well gets a $20 off just a month after launch. Some first-party titles from Nintendo and Sony have yet to see such a price cut years after release. So combine that with the critical acclaim the Atlus JRPG has received, and it’s fair to say this is one of the best Black Friday deals when it comes to video games. Maybe a good excuse to treat yourself or someone else this holiday season?
The good news is that Black Friday PS5 deals are coming in in droves, with games like God of War Ragnarok, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, NBA 2K25, Warhammer 40:000 Space Marine 2 and Elden Ring all dropping in price. So regardless of your gaming preferences, you have some good options to choose from.
