Are Dyson hair care appliances worth it?
I’ve tested almost every appliance in Dyson’s hair care range, and let me tell you: it is Good. At the list price, however, you’re largely paying Dyson’s R&D department for their hard work innovating hair care. Luckily, many devices will be discounted for at least $/£100 this Black Friday.
The Dyson Supersonic hairdryer started it all and was released in 2012 as Dyson’s first hair care device, and at the age of twelve it’s seeing some of the best Black Friday discounts from Dyson’s range. It offers extremely fast drying times, handy magnetic attachments and sleek results. It’s still one of the best hairdryers out there, although the newer Supersonic Nural includes more smart features like scalp protection and energy saving power mode – it’s unlikely we’ll see this at a discount in 2024, though.
In case you missed it, the Dyson Airwrap remains a hugely popular and virally successful multi-styler, with the brand releasing multiple new editions for different hair types and lengths. I use mine almost every day, and I’ve definitely noticed less damage to my hair than when I used a conventional blow dryer before – but on some coarser or thicker hair types, styling doesn’t hold up as long as ceramic hair tools. At list price it’s a big investment, but we’ve seen prices drop by as much as $120 in the US.
Some appliances, such as hair straighteners (the Dyson Airstrait and Dyson Coralle) are certainly innovative, but won’t be a top choice for everyone, and neither usually has huge discounts during Black Friday. They work well for some specific hair types; Typically medium thick, straighter or wavy hair that is not too porous, but otherwise may not work as well as conventional ceramic plates. Still, the high price tag makes them inferior to market-leading, traditional hair straighteners like our current top recommendation, the GHD Unplugged.
The hairdryer that really boosted Dyson’s astronomical leap into the hair care market is still virtually unrivaled, offering impressively fast drying times and a comfortable drying experience thanks to its innovative form factor. Moreover, you can also use the separate attachment (sold separately) to reduce unnecessary frizz in your hair thanks to the Coanda airflow technology.
Normally it’s a pretty pricey device, especially since there are a number of decent dupes available now. However, Black Friday brings the heat, taking £80 off the list price.

If you want a mid-range model from Dyson’s range of powerful vacuum cleaners, consider the Dyson V11. It contains many useful features; an easy-to-empty bin, an informative LCD screen and decent battery life, but doesn’t have the super smart features you see in some newer models. It’s powerful enough and perfect for pet owners thanks to the detangling motor bar that works well on hardwood floors and carpets. You can also convert it into a handheld vacuum cleaner for quick and easy cleanup.
We should see the Dyson V11 drop even lower than its current price at Amazon – and the UK has the V11 Extra at a fantastically low price too.

The Dyson Ball Animal 3 is already one of the more affordable models on offer in the brand’s wide range of vacuum cleaners, but still offers much of the same high performance as we’d expect from the more expensive, cordless models.
Because it’s corded and has a higher capacity, it’s a little heavier, and in our review we found it to be a little harder to maneuver – but it makes up for this in the power department.

Is Black Friday the best time to buy Dyson products?
In general, yes. Dyson products are characterized not only by their quality, but also by the high price tag and the fact that there are rarely significant discounts. Luckily, you still have a week before the deals officially start, so there’s time to think about your options.
