Explosion near LoC during search for terrorists ambushing Kathua | India News – Times of India
JAMMU: Jammu region of J&K continues to grapple with terror-related activities as an explosion was reported near the Location of the C in District Rajouri late wednesday evening, while search operations in the dense forests and upper reaches of the Kathua-Udhampur-Doda stretch continued into their fourth day on Thursday, with the aim of terrorists responsible for the deadly ambush on a two-truck military patrol in Machedi in Kathua district on Monday.
Regarding the blast in Rajouri, an official source said: “The explosion took place close to the zero line and a suspicious movement was noticed. A search operation has been launched in the area to rule out any infiltration attempts from across the border.”
Additional forces were deployed to support search operations in Kathua, Udhampur and Doda districts following the ambush that killed five soldiers of 22 Garhwal Rifles. Since June 9, Doda has seen three terrorist gun battles, while Kathua and Udhampur have seen two each till July 10.
“Special forces and sniffer dogs from the army are also part of the search teams,” the source said. However, no terrorists involved in the ambush have been captured or killed yet.
“Since the ambush on an army patrol, about 60 people have been detained for questioning, including three suspected of providing food and shelter to the terrorists,” an official said. “One of those detained is a woman who cooked food and gave it to a person suspected of being a conduit.”
Authorities have warned people not to provide shelter or food, and not to help the terrorists hide and move through the area unnoticed.
Senior BSF and police officers met for a high-level inter-state security review meeting in Kathua on Thursday. GOC of White Knight Corps Navin Sachdeva reviewed the security arrangements in remote areas of Udhampur and Doda districts, an official said.
