Unboxing the PlayStation 5 Pro 30th Anniversary Collection
Earlier this month, Sony launched the most powerful gaming console on the market, the PlayStation 5 Pro. A few weeks later, the company unveiled a special limited edition version to celebrate the brand’s 30th anniversary. This hardware collection includes a number of consoles and accessories in the original PS1 colors and designs. We just received the PlayStation 5 Pro 30th Anniversary Collection and unboxed it to show you what you get for the bundle’s hefty $1,000 price tag.
The first thing you see in the huge box is the PS5 Pro console itself. It has the same two-tone light and dark gray finish of the original PS1 that we fell in love with back in 1994. It also has a colored PlayStation logo in the top corner, rather than the absent logo seen on the standard PS5 Pro.

If you purchased the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition, you will see, hidden within the fins, a number indicating which of the limited 12,300 console units you received. For myself, and I assume the other media outlets that also received the collection, there is no number, just the words “30th Anniversary.” It also comes with a dark gray vertical stand that is not included with the standard PS5 Pro and is sold separately for $30.
In addition to the console, you also get a standard Dual Sense controller. In addition to the grayscale, the face buttons retain the four pastel colors of the original PS1 controller. It still uses a standard USB-C cable for charging, but with one very nice cosmetic addition: you can slide a plastic cap onto the end of the cord that changes the look of the large, flat, and chunky connector plug of the PS1 controller mimics. This makes it look like you’ve connected a PS1 controller to the front of the PS5 Pro.
In addition to the Dual Sense in anniversary color, you get a Dual Sense Edge, the professional controller from PlayStation, in the same style. The original launched in early 2023 and hasn’t received nearly as much love since when it came to extra fun colors compared to its standard counterpart. This makes this new PS1-like design truly unique. Like the original Edge, it also comes with a carrying case and all the various caps for the analogue sticks, rear buttons and so on, all in the new color scheme.
Sony has also included a few other smaller accessories in the box, including a charging stand that can hold up to two controllers, which is perfect for this collection (and it’s gray, of course). There are also four colored cable ties designed to resemble the PlayStation controller buttons, with alternating square, “x”, circle, and triangular icons in the buttons’ hues. For good measure, the collection includes a few PS logo stickers and a double-sided poster with the logo, a PS1 and PS5 on it.
Overall, the PlayStation 5 Pro 30th Anniversary Collection is a very nice bundle and will easily make you feel nostalgic. It will also appeal to your collector’s instincts, as it’s not clear how else to get your hands on some of the exclusive extras. It’s also a pretty good deal compared to buying all the (non-PS1 colored) components, as the regular and pro controllers alone would cost almost $300, with the addition of the PS5 Pro almost boosting the total to the cost of the entire bundle. . The 30th Anniversary Collection retails for $1,000 and is available now in extremely limited quantities.
